Introduction About METOLAR INJECTION
METOLAR INJECTION is used in the management of arrhythmias and heart attack. It contains a medicine called Metoprolol which is a beta-blocker that works by controlling heart functions and makes your heart, beat slowly with less force.
Before receiving this medicine, inform your doctor if you have diabetes, stroke, liver or kidney disease, asthma, COPD, some other heart problems, unmanaged pheochromocytoma or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding as a precaution.
Low blood pressure, tiredness, dizziness, headache, cold hands and feet are some of the common side effects associated with the use metoprolol. These side effects are usually manageable. However, consult your doctor if they trouble you.
Uses Of METOLAR INJECTION
How METOLAR INJECTION Works
METOLAR INJECTION works by blocking certain receptors (called beta receptors) in the heart. This helps slow down the heart rate and makes the heart pump with less force. In heart failure, this is important because it reduces the strain on the heart, allowing it to work more efficiently and preventing further damage. By lowering the heart’s oxygen demand, it helps the heart function better over time.
In arrhythmias, which are irregular heartbeats, metoprolol helps by slowing down the electrical signals that cause the heart to beat too fast or irregularly. It stabilizes the heartbeat, helping to prevent sudden, fast, or uneven heart rhythms. This makes the heart's rhythm more regular and reduces the risk of serious heart rhythm problems.
How to use METOLAR INJECTION
- Metoprolol injection is usually given by a healthcare professional in a clinical setting (hospital or clinic). It is administered directly into a vein (intravenous) over a specific period
- The dosage depends on the medical condition being treated, such as high blood pressure, heart attack, or arrhythmia, and the patient’s response to treatment. This will be determined by your doctor
- During administration, heart rate, blood pressure, and other vital signs will be closely monitored to ensure safety and effectiveness
- The injection is often used as an initial treatment in emergencies (e.g., heart attack) and may be followed by oral metoprolol as per your doctor’s advice
- Inform your doctor of any allergies, pre-existing conditions, or if you are on other medications, as metoprolol can interact with other drugs or exacerbate certain medical conditions
- Always follow the healthcare provider’s instructions during treatment with metoprolol injection

FAQs About METOLAR INJECTION
Q: How METOLAR INJECTION work?
A: In hypertension, this medicine works by blocking the effect of adrenaline on the heart and decreasing cardiac output, also reducing the outflow of sympathetic neurons and suppressing renin activity (normally responsible for an increase in blood pressure). Together, these actions lower blood pressure effectively.
In angina pectoris, it works by blocking adrenaline effects on the heart and decreases the heart rate, blood pressure, and extent of heart contraction. It also reduces the oxygen requirements of the heart, providing relief from angina.
In heart failure, it slows down the heart rate and makes it easier for the heart to pump blood around the body.
Q: What is METOLAR INJECTION used for?
A: METOLAR INJECTION is used to manage high blood pressure, angina, heart failure, arrhythmias, and migraines.
Q: Can METOLAR INJECTION cause high blood sugar?
A: Yes. This medicine may raise blood sugar levels and should be used with caution in patients with diabetes or low blood sugar. Consult your doctor for more information.
Q: Can METOLAR INJECTION cause low blood pressure?
A: Sometimes, this medicine may decrease your blood pressure and causes dizziness, headache, sweating, and faintness on standing up which is easy manageable by taking some salty snack. If you experience severe dizziness, unable to sit with plenty of exhaustion, talk to your doctor.
Q: Can I stop receiving METOLAR INJECTION if I feel better?
A: Do not stop this medicine suddenly without informing your physician. As it may lead to an exacerbation of angina pectoris (chest pain) or myocardial infarction (heart attack). Contact your doctor before stop taking it.
