    Introduction About GTN 0.4MG SPRAY

    GTN 0.4MG SPRAY contains Nitroglycerin (glyceryl trinitrate) which belongs to the group of medicines called vasodilators. It is used to manage angina at the onset of an attack.

    GTN 0.4MG SPRAY is also used for the management of angina, which can be brought on from emotional stress, physical effort, or exposure to cold. Angina is a type of chest pain occurring because of reduced blood flow to the heart. Symptoms includes chest pain, difficulty to breath, dizziness, tiredness etc.

    Along with GTN 0.4MG SPRAY, your doctor may advise you to make certain lifestyle changes such as quitting alcohol and smoking, eating a healthy diet, manage weight and improve your sleep pattern.

    GTN 0.4MG SPRAY is not recommended for use in patients having heart or lung diseases, decreased blood pressure, shock due to low blood pressure, severe anaemia, and other diseases like glucose 6 phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency (inherited disease seen in men), failure of circulating blood, had history of head injury or bleeding or if you are taking medicines to manage erectile function (sildenafil) or increased pressure in the lungs (riociguat).

    Before using GTN 0.4MG SPRAY, inform your doctor if you have liver or kidney diseases, any conditions that increases pressure within brain, glaucoma (increased pressure in eyes), thyroid diseases, problem controlling blood pressure.

    GTN 0.4MG SPRAY should be used with caution in pregnant women and is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women. GTN 0.4MG SPRAY is not recommended for use in children and adolescents below 18 years of age and should be used with caution in elderly patients.

    Most common side effects of using GTN 0.4MG SPRAY involves headache, spinning of head, nausea, dizziness, or weakness. Consult with your doctor if any of the worsen or doesn’t improve.

    How GTN 0.4MG SPRAY Works

    GTN 0.4MG SPRAY causes relaxation of smooth muscles within blood vessels which leads to relaxation and widening of blood vessels. This improves blood supply to the heart muscles. As a result, it helps to relieve chest pain and blood pressure.

    How to use GTN 0.4MG SPRAY

    Take GTN 0.4MG SPRAY as exactly as advised by your doctor. Spray the medicine beneath your tongue. Your doctor will decide the correct dose (number of sprays) and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and severity of condition.

    Side Effects Of GTN 0.4MG SPRAY

    Common

    • headache
    • spinning of head
    • nausea
    • dizziness
    • facial flushing
    • weakness

    Uncommon

    • sensation of burning, stinging

    Rare

    • severe decrease in blood pressure
    • abnormal heart rate

    Stop using GTN 0.4MG SPRAY and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following symptoms.

    • fainting
    • blisters on tongue
    • allergic skin reactions with or without rashes
    • swelling of the face, lips and throat with difficulty in swallowing, speaking, and breathing(angioedema)
    • severe decrease in blood pressure, mainly while standing
    • signs of failure of blood circulation (decreased blood pressure followed by loss of consciousness or collapse)
    • worsening of chest pain, difficulty to breath, dizziness, tiredness etc (anginal symptoms)
    • bluish colouration of the lips, hands, or feet (cyanosis) may be followed by loss of consciousness (symptoms of poor oxygen supply)
    • limited blood supply mainly seen in patients with coronary artery disease.

    How To Manage Side Effects

    Headache:

    Drink plenty of water and stay hydrated. Take adequate rest and sleep. Try to be stress and tension free. Avoid drinking alcohol. Reduce screen time. Apply pain balm if needed. Consult a doctor before taking any medicines.

    Dizziness:

    Sit or lie down soon after you feel dizzy. Do not drive or operate any machines. Drink enough water. Consult the doctor if it is worsening.

    Nausea:

    Avoid eating oil-rich and sweet foods. Take small meals at frequent times. Maintain a balanced diet with an adequate amount of water. Consult a doctor if it is not subsiding.

    Pregnancy

    GTN 0.4MG SPRAY is not recommended for use during pregnancy. Consult a doctor before using.

    Breastfeeding

    GTN 0.4MG SPRAY is not recommended for use in breast feeding women. Consult your doctor before using it.

    Driving and Using Machines

    Do not drive and operate machines if you feel that your reactions have been slowing down after using GTN 0.4MG SPRAY.

    Alcohol

    Avoid consuming alcohol while using GTN 0.4MG SPRAY as it may decrease your blood pressure and slow down the body's reactions.

    Kidney

    GTN 0.4MG SPRAY should be used with caution in patients having kidney diseases. Consult your doctor before using.

    Liver

    GTN 0.4MG SPRAY should be used with caution in patients having liver diseases. Consult your doctor before using

    Allergy

    Do not use GTN 0.4MG SPRAY if you are allergic to Nitroglycerin or any other ingredients of this medicine.

    Lungs

    GTN 0.4MG SPRAY is not recommended for use in patients having lung diseases such as swelling- or fluid build-up in lungs (pulmonary oedema). Consult doctor before using GTN 0.4MG SPRAY.

    Heart Disease

    GTN 0.4MG SPRAY is not recommended for use in patients having heart diseases such as constructive pericarditis (sharp chest pain), low heart rate, narrowing of blood vessels or valves of the heart, cardiogenic shock (due to low blood pressure you may feel dizziness and light-headedness, fast pulse rate, white skin, sweating, restlessness, or loss of consciousness). GTN 0.4MG SPRAY should be used with caution in patients having other heart diseases such as fluid around the heart (pericardial tamponade) or low filling pressures (such as in acute myocardial infarction). Consult with your doctor before using GTN 0.4MG SPRAY.

    Others

    GTN 0.4MG SPRAY is not recommended to be used if you have:

    • severely low blood pressure
    • severe anaemia
    • brain or head injury (including bleeding)
    • glucose 6 phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency (inherited enzyme deficiency specifically affecting men)
    • failure of blood circulation

    Before using GTN 0.4MG SPRAY inform your doctor if you have:

    • glaucoma (increased pressure inside eyes)
    • thyroid disorders (underactive thyroid gland)
    • any diseases causing increased pressure inside the brain
    • difficulty controlling blood pressure

    Use in paediatrics:

    GTN 0.4MG SPRAY is not recommended for use in children and adolescents below 18 years of age. Consult your doctor before using.

    Use in geriatrics:

    GTN 0.4MG SPRAY should be used with caution in elderly patients. Consult a doctor before using.

    Interactions

    A. Drug – Drug interactions:

     Before using GTN 0.4MG SPRAY inform your doctor if you are taking the following medicines:

    • medicine used to manage erectile dysfunction (Ex. sildenafil, tadalafil, vardenafil)
    • medicine used to manage increased pressure in lungs (Ex. riociguat)
    • medicine used to manage heart diseases, increased blood pressure (Ex. enalapril, verapamil, propranolol, isosorbide dinitrate)
    • medicines used to manage mental health conditions (Ex. amitriptyline, amoxapine, desipramine)
    • medicines such as diuretics used to reduce fluid build-up in the body (Ex. spironolactone, furosemide)
    • medicine used to manage blood clotting (Ex. heparin)
    • medicine used to manage migraine (Ex. dihydroergotamine)

    Overdosage:

    If you or anyone else accidentally use too much of GTN 0.4MG SPRAY, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdosage includes nausea, weakness and sweating, fainting, bluish discolouration to skin and lips(cyanosis) and methemoglobinemia (blood disorder).
