ZOXIL DT 500MG TABLET contains Cefadroxil which belongs to the group of medicines called Antibiotics. It is used to manage bacterial infections in both adults and in children (weighing more than 40 kg). It can be used in the management of various bacterial infections affecting the throat, upper part of the respiratory tract, skin and soft tissues and the urinary tract.
A bacterial infection can be defined as a proliferation of various harmful strains of bacteria in the body. They can affect any part(s) of the body including the respiratory tract, urinary tract, eyes, ears, skin, soft tissue or bones.
ZOXIL DT 500MG TABLET is effective in managing bacterial infections affecting different parts of the body including the respiratory tract, urinary tract, throat and skin and soft tissues.
ZOXIL DT 500MG TABLET must be taken with meals to avoid unwanted gastrointestinal side effects. Make sure to complete the full course of management with ZOXIL DT 500MG TABLET without any interruption. Do not miss a dose or stop taking ZOXIL DT 500MG TABLET without consulting your doctor as it may lead to growth of harmful bacteria within the body which cannot be further controlled by ZOXIL DT 500MG TABLET.
Before taking ZOXIL DT 500MG TABLET inform your doctor if you are going to have any blood test (Coombs Test) to detect blood count or any chemical urine test to detect blood sugar levels. ZOXIL DT 500MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients allergic to penicillin antibiotics (such as amoxicillin, ampicillin) and in patients having severe kidney impairment (including dialysis).
ZOXIL DT 500MG TABLET should be used in pregnant or breastfeeding women only if prescribed by the physician. It is generally not recommended for use in children aged below 6 years or in those who weigh less than 40 kg.
The most common side effects of taking ZOXIL DT 500MG TABLET are nausea, vomiting, stomach pain and diarrhea. These side effects may probably reduce if ZOXIL DT 500MG TABLET is taken along with meals. However, consult your doctor if any of the side effect bothers you.
Uses Of ZOXIL DT 500MG TABLET
It is used to manage the following bacterial infections in adults and in children (weighing more than 40 kg):
- throat infections (such as pharyngitis and tonsillitis)
- respiratory infections (such as pneumonia)
- urinary tract infections (such as cystitis or pyelonephritis)
- skin and soft tissue infections (such as abscesses, furunculosis, impetigo, erysipelas, pyoderma, lymphadenitis)
How ZOXIL DT 500MG TABLET Works
ZOXIL DT 500MG TABLET is a bactericidal antibiotic. It binds to the bacterial cell wall and interfere with the bacterial cell wall synthesis. This weakens the bacterial cells and causes lysis of the bacteria, leading to bacterial cell death and decrease in spread of infection.
How to use ZOXIL DT 500MG TABLET
Take ZOXIL DT 500MG TABLET as advised by your doctor. It is preferably taken with meals to avoid unwanted gastrointestinal side effects.
For Tablet, Capsule: Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine.
For Dispersible Tablet: Disperse the medicine in the specified quantity of water as mentioned in the label. Consume the medicine immediately after reconstitution.
Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of therapy for you depending upon your age, body weight and severity of the infection.
It is important to take the full course of ZOXIL DT 500MG TABLET without any interruption. Side Effects Of ZOXIL DT 500MG TABLET
Common
- nausea, vomiting
- diarrhoea, indigestion, stomach pain
- skin rash with itching
- swollen sore tongue
Uncommon
- vaginal fungal infections or ‘thrush’
Rare
- unexplained bruising or bleeding, which may be due to reduced platelets
- fever, feeling weak, generally unwell, muscle pain with or without swollen glands (serum sickness)
- joint pain
Stop taking ZOXIL DT 500MG TABLET and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
- signs of infections (such as fever, general weakness, sore throat or mouth and problems in passing urine)
- severe allergic reaction (such as skin rash, itching, swelling of the face, tongue or pharynx, difficulty in swallowing or breathing and chest tightness)
- signs of kidney problems (such as bloody or cloudy urine, scanty or no urine accompanied with lower back pain)
- inflammation of the colon (colitis) with bloody diarrhea
- severe skin reactions causing blistering of the skin, mouth, eyes, and genitals
- signs of low RBC count (such as yellow or pale skin, weakness or breathlessness)
How To Manage Side Effects
Nausea and Vomiting:
Take ZOXIL DT 500MG TABLET with or just after meals. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oil rich or spicy foods. Consult your doctor if your nausea worsens.
Diarrhea:
Hydrate yourself by drinking plenty of fluids, such as water or fruit juices. Consuming ORS can also be beneficial. Do not self-manage diarrhea on your own. Consult your doctor if your diarrhea becomes uncontrollable or if you see blood in your stools.
Indigestion:
Eat when you are hungry. Try to eat smaller meals more often than usual. Snack only when you're hungry. Always try to have a nutritious snack that is high in calories and protein, such as dried fruit and nuts.

Pregnancy
ZOXIL DT 500MG TABLET should be used with caution in pregnant women and in those who are planning to have a baby. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.

Breastfeeding
ZOXIL DT 500MG TABLET should be used with caution in breastfeeding women as it may pass through the breast milk and affect the nursing infant. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.

Driving and Using Machines
Do not drive or operate any heavy tools or machines if you experience headache or dizziness after taking ZOXIL DT 500MG TABLET.

Alcohol
Avoid consumption of alcohol while taking ZOXIL DT 500MG TABLET.

Kidney
ZOXIL DT 500MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with severe kidney diseases. It should be used with caution in patients undergoing dialysis. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.

Liver
ZOXIL DT 500MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with liver problems. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.

Allergy
Do not take ZOXIL DT 500MG TABLET if you are allergic to Cefadroxil or to any other penicillin antibiotics (Ex. amoxicillin).
Others
Before taking ZOXIL DT 500MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you:
- are going to have any blood test (such as Coombs test)

Interactions
A. Drug-Drug interactions
Before taking ZOXIL DT 500MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines such as:
- medicines used for blood thinning (Ex. heparin and warfarin)
- medicines used to manage gout (Ex. probenecid)
- medicines used to lower elevated blood cholesterol levels (Ex. cholestyramine)
- antibiotics used to manage bacterial infection (Ex. erythromycin, sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim, chloramphenicol, polymyxin B, vancomycin, colistin, gentamicin)
- diuretics (used to increase urine output) Ex. furosemide

If you or anyone else accidentally took more ZOXIL DT 500MG TABLET consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdosage might include allergic reaction causing dizziness or breathing difficulties, low blood pressure, abnormal heartbeat, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, skin eruptions or muscular contractions.
