    Introduction About ZOSTUM O TABLET

    ZOSTUM O TABLET contains Cefditoren which belongs to the group of medicines called Antibiotics. It is used for the management of acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis (productive cough), community acquired pneumonia (lung infection), pharyngitis (sore throat) /tonsillitis (inflammation of tonsils), acute maxillary sinusitis (sinus infection), skin and skin-structure infections such as cellulitis, infected wounds, abscesses, folliculitis, impetigo and boils in adults, adolescents aged 12 years and above.

    ZOSTUM O TABLET is not recommended for use if you have carnitine deficiency. ZOSTUM O TABLET should be used with caution in patients with severe liver disease, kidney disease, colitis. Contact your doctor before taking it.

    ZOSTUM O TABLET is generally not recommended for use in pregnant women, unless considered necessary. It should be used with caution in breastfeeding women. Contact your doctor before taking it.

    ZOSTUM O TABLET is not recommended for use in children and adolescents under 12 years of age. It should be used with caution in elderly patients. Contact your doctor before taking it.

    The most common side effects of taking ZOSTUM O TABLET are diarrhoea, nausea, abdominal pain, indigestion, headache and vaginal candidiasis. Contact your doctor if any of the symptoms worse.

    Uses Of ZOSTUM O TABLET

    To manage bacterial infections such as:

    • Acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis
    • Community acquired pneumonia
    • Pharyngitis /tonsillitis
    • Acute maxillary sinusitis
    • Skin and skin-structure infections

    How ZOSTUM O TABLET Works

    ZOSTUM O TABLET exerts its antibacterial action by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. Thus, it kills the bacteria and manages infections effectively.

    How to use ZOSTUM O TABLET

    Take ZOSTUM O TABLET as advised by your physician. It should be taken with meals to enhance absorption.

    For Tablet: Swallow ZOSTUM O TABLET with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine.

    For Dispersible Tablet: Disperse ZOSTUM O TABLET in the specified quantity of water as mentioned in the label. Consume the mixture immediately after reconstitution.

    Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

    Side Effects Of ZOSTUM O TABLET

    Common

    • diarrhoea, nausea, abdominal pain, indigestion
    • headache
    • vaginal candidiasis (vaginal fungal infections)

    Uncommon

    • nervousness, dizziness
    • sleep disturbances
    • pharyngitis (sore throat), rhinitis (stuffy nose), sinusitis (sinus infection)
    • constipation, flatulence, belching, vomiting, dry mouth, altered taste
    • oral candidiasis (fungal infection of mouth)
    • rash, pruritus, urticaria
    • loss of appetite
    • fungal infection
    • fever, weakness, pain, sweating
    • vaginitis (inflammation of vagina), leukorrhea (vaginal discharge)

    Rare

    • loss of consciousness, fast heartbeat or abnormal heartbeats
    • lymphadenopathy (swelling of lymph nodes)
    • loss of memory, discoordination, hypertonia (increased muscle tone)
    • meningitis (inflammation of membranes surrounding brain and spinal cord)
    • tremor
    • amblyopia (decreased vision in one eye), eye disorder, eye pain, blepharitis (eyelid inflammation)
    • ringing ears
    • asthma
    • mouth ulcers, haemorrhagic colitis, ulcerative colitis or gastrointestinal haemorrhage (blood in stools), swollen tongue, hiccup, discoloured tongue
    • painful urination, pain in the kidney region, kidney inflammation, frequent urination at night, increased urination, incontinence
    • acne, hair loss
    • eczema, exfoliative dermatitis (skin inflammation)
    • herpes simplex (viral infection)
    • photosensitivity reaction (abnormal reaction to sunlight)
    • muscle pains
    • dehydration
    • urinary tract infection, clostridium difficile diarrhoea
    • postural hypotension
    • body odour, chills
    • mastalgia (breast pain), menstrual disorders, metrorrhagia (abnormal bleeding from uterus)
    • erectile dysfunction, increased libido
    • depersonalisation, emotional weakness, happiness, hallucinations, thinking disorders

    Stop taking ZOSTUM O TABLET and consult with your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following symptoms:

    How To Manage Side Effects

    Headache:

     

    Rest and relax. Drink plenty of fluids such as water or ORS (Oral Rehydrating Solution) and apply a pain-relieving balm on the head if necessary. Contact your doctor if your headache did not improve.

     

    Dizziness:

    Try to rest and relax. Get enough sleep. Avoid driving or operate any machines while you are feeling dizzy. Contact your doctor if your dizziness did not improve.

    Nausea and vomiting:

    Take ZOSTUM O TABLET, with or just after a meal. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oily or spicy food. Contact your doctor if your nausea and vomiting did not improve.

    Constipation:

    Take fiber rich foods in your diet such as fresh fruits, vegetables and whole grain cereals and drink plenty of fluids. Exercise more regularly and stay active. Contact your doctor if constipation persist.

    Stomach pain:

    Try to have smaller meals but take frequently. Keep a heat pad on your stomach. Do not self-manage and contact your doctor if the stomach pain did not improve.

    Skin rash:

    Avoid hot bath because hot water can irritate your skin further. Do not scratch the affected area. Use sunscreen and wear protective clothing while going outside. Use unscented moisturizers to soothe and hydrate the affected area. Contact your doctor if your rashes worsen.

    Flatulence:

    Eat smaller and frequent meals. Eat and drink slowly and exercise regularly. If the flatulence does not improve, contact your doctor.

    Diarrhoea:

    Drink lots of fluids, such as water or fruit juices to keep yourself hydrated. Do not take any medicine on your own for managing diarrhoea. Contact your doctor if your diarrhoea did not improve.

    Pregnancy

    ZOSTUM O TABLET is generally not recommended for use in pregnant women, unless considered necessary. Contact your doctor before taking it.

    Breastfeeding

    ZOSTUM O TABLET should be used with caution in breastfeeding women. Contact your doctor before taking it.

    Driving and Using Machines

    Do not drive or operate any machines if you feel dizziness and somnolence after taking ZOSTUM O TABLET

    Kidney

    ZOSTUM O TABLET should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Contact your doctor before taking it.

    Liver

    ZOSTUM O TABLET should be used with caution in patients with severe liver disease. Contact your doctor before taking it.

    Allergy

    Do not take ZOSTUM O TABLET if you are allergic to Cefditoren or other beta lactam antibiotics or to any ingredients of this medicine.

    Others

    ZOSTUM O TABLET is not recommended for use if you:

    • have carnitine deficiency

    Before taking ZOSTUM O TABLET, inform your doctor if you:

    • have previous history of allergic reaction to ZOSTUM O TABLET, cephalosporins, penicillins or other drugs
    • have previous history of gastro-intestinal disease, particularly colitis
    • are scheduled for lab test

    Use in Paediatrics:

    ZOSTUM O TABLET is not recommended for use in children and adolescents under 12 years of age. Contact your doctor before taking it.

    Use in Geriatrics:

    ZOSTUM O TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients. No dose adjustment is required in elderly patients with normal (for their age) renal function. Contact your doctor before taking it.

    Interactions

    A. Drug-Drug interactions:

    Before taking ZOSTUM O TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:

    • medicines used to relieve indigestion and heartburn (aluminium and magnesium hydroxide, famotidine)
    • probenecid (used to manage gout)
    • aminoglycosides (medicines used to manage bacterial infections) Ex. amikacin, gentamicin
    • diuretics (medicines used to manage remove extra fluid in the body) Ex. furosemide
    • anticoagulants (medicines used to thin blood) Ex. warfarin

    Overdosage:

    If you or anyone else accidentally take too much of ZOSTUM O TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital.

    A: Yes. Take ZOSTUM O TABLET as advised by your physician. It should be taken with meals to enhance absorption. Swallow the medicines with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine.     Q: What if you miss a dose of ZOSTUM O TABLET?

    If you forget to take a dose of ZOSTUM O TABLET, take as soon as you remember. But if it is the time for the next dose, you can skip the missed dose and follow your regular schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose.
