    Introduction About XAPAVIR TABLET

    XAPAVIR TABLET contains Dolutegravir which belongs to the group of medicines called Integrase inhibitors. XAPAVIR TABLET is used to manage HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) infection in adults, and children (aged 6 years/above) who should weigh at-least 14 kg/above.

    XAPAVIR TABLET is not recommended for use in patients allergic to Dolutegravir.

    Before taking XAPAVIR TABLET, inform your doctor if you are suffering from advanced HIV infection and/or have weak immune system (prone to serious infections), kidney problems (such as mild to severe renal impairment), and liver problems (such as mild to moderate hepatic impairment).

    XAPAVIR TABLET should be used with caution during pregnancy only if it is clearly necessary since the medicine may increase the risk of birth defect (such as neural tube defect/malformed spinal cord) in unborn baby.  It is generally not recommended for use in breastfeeding women as the medicine may pass through breastmilk. 

    XAPAVIR TABLET is not recommended for use in children (aged below 6 years) and in children who weigh less than 14 kg and who are resistant to other medicines similar to XAPAVIR TABLET. It is advised to be used with caution in elderly patients (aged 65 years/above) after consulting the doctor.  

    The most common side effects of taking XAPAVIR TABLET are headache, stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, itching, and/or rash. Consult your doctor if any of the symptoms worsen.

    • Manage HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) infection in affected individuals

    How XAPAVIR TABLET Works

    XAPAVIR TABLET works by reducing the amount of virus in the body which results in increased count of CD4 cell (white blood cell that helps body to fight infection) in blood managing HIV and managing the occurrence other infections in affected individuals.

    How to use XAPAVIR TABLET

    Take XAPAVIR TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight, and disease condition.

    Side Effects Of XAPAVIR TABLET

    Common

    • headache
    • stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, wind
    • rash, itching,
    • stomach pain/discomfort  
    • sleeplessness, dizziness
    • abnormal dreams, depression, anxiety
    • lack of energy (fatigue)

    Uncommon

    • inflammation of the liver (hepatitis)
    • suicide attempt, suicidal thoughts
    • joint/muscle pain

    Rare

    • signs of liver failure such as yellowing of skin and the whites of the eyes/unusually dark urine.

    Stop taking XAPAVIR TABLET and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

    • signs of allergic reactions such as skin rash, fever, lack of energy, swelling of face/mouth, difficulty in breathing, and/or muscle/joint aches
    • signs of infection such as fever, chills, shortness of breath, and/or nasal congestion

    How To Manage Side Effects

    Headache:

    If XAPAVIR TABLET causes headache, then take rest and drink plenty of fluids. Try to avoid drinking alcohol. Ask your doctor to recommend a painkiller. Headaches should usually go away after the first week of taking XAPAVIR TABLET. If it lasts more than a week or becomes severe, then consult and inform your doctor.

    Nausea and vomiting:

    Take XAPAVIR TABLET with/just after a meal. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oil rich/spicy foods, sugary snacks and drinks. Avoid drinking too much liquid along with your meals, and drink slowly in between meals. Consult your doctor if the condition worsens.

    Diarrhea:

    Drink plenty of water and stay hydrated. Try to avoid taking any medicine on your own to manage diarrhea. Consult and inform your doctor if the symptom worsens.

    Rashes:

    Do not scratch the affected area. Wear protective clothing while going outdoors. Regularly moisturize your skin. Consult and inform your doctor if the symptom gets worse.

    Warning & Precautions

    Pregnancy

    XAPAVIR TABLET should be used with caution during pregnancy only if it is clearly necessary since the medicine may increase the risk of birth defect (such as neural tube defect/malformed spinal cord) in unborn baby. Women of childbearing potential should use contraceptive measures (such as condoms/pills) while in management with XAPAVIR TABLET to manage pregnancy and should inform doctor immediately if accidental pregnancy occurs. Consult your doctor before taking the medicine.

    Breastfeeding

    XAPAVIR TABLET is generally not recommended for use in breastfeeding women as the medicine may pass through breastmilk.  Consult your doctor before taking the medicine.

    Driving and Using Machines

    Do not drive or operate machines, if you feel dizzy or have other side effects that make you less alert after taking XAPAVIR TABLET.

    Alcohol

    Avoid consumption of alcohol while taking XAPAVIR TABLET since it may increase the risk of occurrence of osteonecrosis (segmental bone death due to impaired blood supply).

    Kidney

    XAPAVIR TABLET should be taken with caution in patients with kidney problems such as mild, moderate/severe renal impairment. Consult your doctor before taking XAPAVIR TABLET.

    Liver

    XAPAVIR TABLET should be used with caution in patients with liver problems such as mild to moderate hepatic impairment. Consult your doctor before taking XAPAVIR TABLET.

    Allergy

    Do not take XAPAVIR TABLET if you are allergic to Dolutegravir, and/or any other ingredients of this medicine.

    Others

    Before taking XAPAVIR TABLET, inform your doctor if you:

    • are suffering from advanced HIV infection and have weak immune system with prone to develop serious infections.

    Use in Pediatrics:

    XAPAVIR TABLET is not recommended for use in children (aged below 6 years) and in children who weigh less than 14 kg and who are resistant to other medicines similar to XAPAVIR TABLET. Consult your doctor before taking XAPAVIR TABLET.

    Use in Geriatrics:

    XAPAVIR TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients (aged 65 years/ above). Consult your doctor before taking XAPAVIR TABLET.

    Interactions

    A. Drug - Drug interactions:

    Before taking XAPAVIR TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:

    • fampridine (used to manage multiple sclerosis)
    • metformin (used to manage diabetes)
    • antacids (used to manage indigestion and heartburn)
    • calcium supplements, iron supplements, and multivitamins
    • etravirine, efavirenz, fosamprenavir/ritonavir, nevirapine or tipranavir/ritonavir (used to manage HIV infection)
    • rifampicin (used to manage tuberculosis and other bacterial infections)
    • phenytoin, phenobarbital (used to manage epilepsy)
    • oxcarbazepine, carbamazepine (manage epilepsy/bipolar disorder)
    • St. John’s wort (herbal medicine used to manage depression)

    Overdosage:

    If you or anyone else accidentally take too much of XAPAVIR TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital to manage overdose symptoms.
