The device will indicate it's ready when the ring around the start button turns green and three dashed lines appear on the display. Place the probe snugly into the ear canal, directing it towards the opposite temple. Press and release the measure button. A long beep and a steady green ExacTemp light will signal that the measurement is complete, and the reading will show on the display. Press the ejector button to discard the used probe cover. The device will automatically power off after about 10 seconds of inactivity.
