    Introduction About WAKLERT 150MG TABLET

    WAKLERT 150MG TABLET contains Armodafinil which belongs to the group of medicines called Wakefulness-promoting agents. It is used to improve wakefulness in adult patients with excessive sleepiness due to sleeping disorders such as narcolepsy (uncontrollable daytime sleepiness) or shift work disorder (sleep disorders in those who work out of regular shift time like 9am to 5am).

    WAKLERT 150MG TABLET is also used in patients having obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA). Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) is a condition where there is a breathing difficulty while sleeping due to obstruction in the nasal and throat passage.

    WAKLERT 150MG TABLET should be taken with caution in patients having liver, kidney or heart diseases, psychosis or have or had alcohol addiction. WAKLERT 150MG TABLET should be used with caution in pregnant and breastfeeding women. Consult your doctor for advice.

     WAKLERT 150MG TABLET is not recommended for use in children and adolescents (under 18 years of age) and it should be used with caution in elderly patients. Ask for your doctor’s advice before taking.

    The common side effects of taking WAKLERT 150MG TABLET are headache, nausea (feel sick), dizziness, difficulty in sleeping. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve or worsen.

    Uses Of WAKLERT 150MG TABLET

    Improves wakefulness in adult patients who are sleepy due to sleep disorders such as:

    • Narcolepsy
    • Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA)
    • Shift work disorder (SWD)

    How WAKLERT 150MG TABLET Works

    WAKLERT 150MG TABLET works as stimulants which provide long lasting mental arousal. It inhibits the reuptake of a brain chemical called dopamine (supresses sleep), increasing its concentration in the brain. This helps in improving wakefulness in patients having sleeping disorders.

    How to use WAKLERT 150MG TABLET

    Take WAKLERT 150MG TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

    Side Effects Of WAKLERT 150MG TABLET

    Common

    • headache
    • nausea (feel sick)
    • dizziness
    • difficulty in sleeping

    Rare

    Stop taking WAKLERT 150MG TABLET and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

    • serious allergic reaction such as skin rash, sores in mouth, hives or blistering and peeling of skin, swelling of eyes, face, lips, throat or tongue, legs, trouble swallowing, fever, shortness of breath, yellowing of the skin or whites of the eyes or dark urine
    • psychiatric or mental symptoms includes depression, anxious feeling, hallucinations (seeing, hearing, sensing or feeling things that are not actually there), an extreme increased activity and talking (mania), aggressive behaviour, suicidal thoughts and other mental problems
    • signs of heart problem, including abnormal heartbeat, chest pain and breathing difficulties

    How To Manage Side Effects

    Nausea:

    Take this medicine with or just after meals. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oil rich or spicy foods. Discuss with your doctor if the symptom doesn’t improve.

    Dizziness:

    Lie or sit down immediately when you feel dizzy. If you're feeling severe episode of spinning(vertigo), lie in a dark and quite place with eyes closed. Try to avoid vehicle driving. Discuss with your doctor if the symptom doesn’t improve.

    Headache:

    Try to take rest and don’t involve yourself in exertive activities. Rest in a quiet and dark room. Apply a pain-relieving balm on your forehead. Ask for your doctor’s advice if headache doesn’t improve.

    Pregnancy

    WAKLERT 150MG TABLET should be used with caution in pregnant women as it is not known if it can harm your unborn baby. Consult your doctor before taking it.

    Breastfeeding

    WAKLERT 150MG TABLET should be used with caution in breastfeeding women as it is not known if it passes through breast milk. Consult your doctor before taking it.

    Driving and Using Machines

    Do not drive or operate any machines until you know how WAKLERT 150MG TABLET affects you.

    Alcohol

    Avoid consumption of alcohol while taking WAKLERT 150MG TABLET.

    Kidney

    WAKLERT 150MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with kidney problems. Consult your doctor for advice.

    Liver

    WAKLERT 150MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with liver problems. Consult your doctor for advice.

    Allergy

    Do not take WAKLERT 150MG TABLET if you are allergic to Armodafinil, Modafinil or any other ingredients of this medicine.

    Heart Disease

    WAKLERT 150MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with heart problems or those who have had a heart attack. Consult your doctor for advice.

    Others

    Before taking WAKLERT 150MG TABLET inform your doctor if you:

    • have history of mental illness including psychosis
    • have high blood pressure
    • have history of alcohol or drug abuse or addiction

    Use in pediatrics:

    WAKLERT 150MG TABLET is not recommended for use in children and adolescents (under 18 years of age). Consult your child’s doctor before giving it to your child.

    Use in geriatrics:

    WAKLERT 150MG TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients (above 65 years of age). Consult your doctor for advice.

    Interactions

    A. Drug - Drug interactions:

    Before taking WAKLERT 150MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine

    • steroidal contraceptives such as ethinyl estradiol (medicines used to manage pregnancy)
    • cyclosporine (medicine used to manage graft rejection)
    • phenytoin (used to manage epilepsy)
    • diazepam (used to manage anxiety)
    • propranolol (used to manage high blood pressure and heart problems)
    • omeprazole (used to manage stomach ulcers)
    • clomipramine, isocarboxazid, phenelzine (used to manage depression)
    • warfarin (medicine used to manage clotting of blood)
    • midazolam, triazolam (used to induce sleep)

    Overdosage:

    If you or anyone else accidentally take too much of WAKLERT 150MG TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of an overdose include difficulty in sleeping, confusion, restlessness, feeling excited, disorientation, anxiety, hallucinations (seeing, hearing, sensing or feeling things that are not actually there), nausea (feel sick), diarrhea, fast or slow heartbeat, increased blood pressure, chest pain, shortness of breath.

    Coffee (caffeine) is a CNS-stimulant and such actions are expected to be additive when taken along with WAKLERT 150MG TABLET. Caffeine should be used cautiously and in limited quantity with WAKLERT 150MG TABLET. Excessive intake may cause irritability, nervousness, insomnia or other side effects. Consult your doctor for advice.
