Introduction About VILTUS 50 TABLET
VILTUS 50 TABLET is used in adults to manage type 2 diabetes which helps to control the blood sugar levels when diet and exercise becomes insufficient to control the disease. It contains Vildagliptin which belongs to group of medicines called Oral Anti-diabetics.
Take VILTUS 50 TABLET as advised by your physician. Do not crush or chew VILTUS 50 TABLET. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water.
Along management with VILTUS 50 TABLET, your doctor might advise you to follow the diet and/or exercise which is beneficial. Avoid consumption of alcohol because it might lead to low blood glucose levels. Before taking VILTUS 50 TABLET, inform your doctor if you are on dialysis or have diabetic ketoacidosis (serious complication of diabetes), pancreatic disease, heart failure and liver or kidney disease.
VILTUS 50 TABLET is not recommended for use in pregnant and breast-feeding women, which is also not recommended for use in children and adolescents (aged below 18 years). It should be used with caution in elderly patients (aged 65 years and above).
The side effects of taking VILTUS 50 TABLET are dizziness, headache, joint pain and constipation.

VILTUS 50 TABLET controls blood glucose level by acting on the pancreas to produce more insulin and less glucagon which leads to low production of blood sugar levels resulting in controlled blood glucose levels.
How to use VILTUS 50 TABLET
- Take VILTUS 50 TABLET as advised by your physician.
- Do not crush or chew VILTUS 50 TABLET.
- Swallow the medicine with a glass of water.
- Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

Driving and Using Machines
Use with CautionDo not drive or operate any machines if you feel dizziness after taking VILTUS 50 TABLET.
Alcohol
Consult your doctorAvoid consumption of alcohol while taking VILTUS 50 TABLET because it might lead to hypoglycemia (lowering of blood glucose levels).
Kidney
Use with CautionVILTUS 50 TABLET should be used with caution in patients with moderate or severe kidney disease and in patients who are undergoing dialysis.
Liver
Use with CautionVILTUS 50 TABLET should be used with caution in patients with liver disease.
Allergy
ContraindicatedDo not take VILTUS 50 TABLET if you are allergic to Vildagliptin or any other ingredients of this medicine.
Heart Disease
Use with CautionVILTUS 50 TABLET should be used with caution in patients suffering from heart failure.
Use In Pediatrics
ContraindicatedVILTUS 50 TABLET is not recommended for use in children and adolescents up to 18 years of age.
Use In Geriatrics

Before taking VILTUS 50 TABLET, inform your doctor if you:
- Have type 1 diabetes (i.e. your body does not produce insulin)
- Have a condition called diabetic ketoacidosis (serious complication of diabetes)
- Have intolerance to certain sugars
- Had or have a disease of the pancreas

A. Drug-Drug interactions:
Before taking VILTUS 50 TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:
- Oral antidiabetics (medicine used to manage type 2 diabetes) Ex. sulphonylureas such as gliclazide, glipizide
- Digoxin (used to manage heart failure)
- Warfarin (used to manage blood clot)
- Cardiac drugs (such as captopril, enalapril, fosinopril)
- Simvastatin (used to reduce high cholesterol levels)
- Thiazides or other diuretics (medicines used to manage high blood pressure) Ex. chlorothiazide, chlorthalidone, hydrochlorothiazide
- Corticosteroids (used to manage inflammation) Ex. prednisolone
- Certain medicines affecting nervous system such as antidepressants Ex. clomipramine, amitriptyline
- Thyroid medicines (used to lower thyroid levels) Ex. levothyroxine
Over dosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally takes too much of VILTUS 50 TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Overdosage symptoms of VILTUS 50 TABLET are muscle pain, mild and transient paraesthesia (burning and prickling sensation in hands and legs), fever, oedema (swelling in arms and legs) and laboratory abnormalities such as transient increase in lipase levels, increases in creatine phosphokinase (CPK), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), C-reactive protein (CRP) and myoglobin levels.
