Introduction About VIBY POWDER
VIBY POWDER contains Vigabatrin which belongs to the group of medicines called Anticonvulsants. VIBY POWDER is used to control various forms of epilepsy (seizures) which is used together with other medicines to manage difficult type of epilepsy in affected individuals. It is also used to control infantile spasms which is a type of seizure that occurs in babies.
VIBY POWDER is not recommended for use in patients allergic to Vigabatrin. Before taking VIBY POWDER, inform your doctor if you are suffering from other psychiatric illness, and/or have depression, eye problems, liver problems (such as hepatic failure), and/or kidney problems.
VIBY POWDER is not recommended for use during pregnancy unless it is clearly necessary. It is also not recommended for use in breastfeeding women as it passes through breastmilk.
VIBY POWDER should be used with caution in children and adolescents (aged below 18 years) and is advised to be used with caution in elderly patients (aged 65 years and above) after consulting your doctor.
The most common side effects of taking VIBY POWDER are tiredness, extreme sleepiness, dizziness, joint pain, weight gain, swelling (oedema), and/or shaking (tremor). Consult your doctor if any of these symptoms worsens.

- Helps to control various forms of epilepsy (seizures) and infantile spasm (seizure that occurs in babies)
How VIBY POWDER Works
VIBY POWDER works by inhibiting GABA transaminase enzyme (a GABA-degrading enzyme) which cause widespread increase in GABA concentrations (primary inhibitory neurotransmitter of brain) resulting in suppressed abnormal and excessive activity of the nerve cells thus managing epilepsy in affected individuals.
How to use VIBY POWDER
Take VIBY POWDER as advised by your physician. Dissolve the contents in a glass of cold water, soft drink, juice or milk. Drink it straight away, do not leave it standing. Your doctor will decide the appropriate dose and duration depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.
Side Effects Of VIBY POWDER
Common
- tiredness, extreme sleepiness, headache, dizziness
- joint pain, weight gain
- swelling (oedema)
- shaking (tremor), numbness/tingling sensation, excitation/restlessness, disturbance of concentration & memory
- psychological disturbances such as agitation, aggression, nervousness, irritability, depression, insomnia, and/or thought disturbance & feeling suspicious without reason
- nausea, vomiting, stomach pain
- blurred/double vision, uncontrolled movement of the eye (which may cause dizziness)
- speech disorder
- anemia
- alopecia (unusual hair loss/thinning)
Uncommon
- lack of coordination in movements/fumbling
- more severe psychological disturbances such as feeling elated/over-excited (associated with symptoms such as unusual behavior & feeling detached from reality)
- skin rash
Rare
- hives/nettle rash
- marked sedation, stupor (near unconsciousness), confusion
- suicide attempt
- other eye problems such as retinal disorder associated with symptoms such as poor night vision, trouble adjusting from bright to dim areas, sudden/unexplained loss of vision, loss of sight (from the edges of your field of vision), and/or light sensitivity.
Stop taking VIBY POWDER and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
- signs of serious allergic reaction such as swelling of face/throat
- increase in number of fits
- visual field changes (loss of part of usual field of vision)
- suicidal thoughts
How To Manage Side Effects
Tiredness:
Make sure you take rest and drink plenty of fluids. Avoid or limit the consumption of alcohol. Try to take VIBY POWDER at a time when you can sit down (or lie down) when the symptoms are at their worst. Avoid driving or using tools or machinery until you feel well.
Headache:
If VIBY POWDER causes headache, then take rest and drink plenty of fluids. Try to avoid drinking alcohol. Ask your doctor to recommend a painkiller. Headaches should usually go away after the first week of taking VIBY POWDER. If it lasts more than a week or becomes severe, then consult and inform your doctor.
Dizziness:
Try to rest and get enough sleep. Try to avoid driving or operating any tools or machines while you feel dizzy. Limit consumption of alcohol, as it can aggravate dizziness. Consult and inform your doctor if the symptom worsens.
Nausea and vomiting:
Take VIBY POWDER with/just after a meal. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oil rich/spicy foods, sugary snacks and drinks. Avoid drinking too much liquid along with your meals, and drink slowly in between meals. Consult your doctor if the condition worsens.
Warning & Precautions
Pregnancy
VIBY POWDER is generally not recommended for use during pregnancy unless it is clearly necessary. Consult your doctor before taking the medicine.
Breastfeeding
VIBY POWDER is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women as it passes through breastmilk. Consult your doctor before taking the medicine.
Driving and Using Machines
Do not drive or operate machines if you experience drowsiness, dizziness, and/or visual disorders after taking VIBY POWDER. Consult your doctor before taking VIBY POWDER.
Kidney
VIBY POWDER should be used with caution in patients with kidney problems. Consult your doctor before taking VIBY POWDER.
Liver
VIBY POWDER should be used with caution in patients with liver problems such as hepatic failure. Consult your doctor before taking VIBY POWDER.
Allergy
Do not take VIBY POWDER if you are allergic to Vigabatrin, and/or any ingredients of this medicine.
Others
Before taking VIBY POWDER, inform your doctor if you:
- have/had depression
- have a history of suffering from other psychiatric illness in the past
- have had any problems with your eyes.
