    VEPAN DT 100MG TABLET contains Cefadroxil which belongs to the group of medicines called Cephalosporin antibiotics. It is used in children to manage bacterial infections of the throat and upper part of the respiratory tract, skin and soft tissues, and the urinary tract. A bacterial infection can be defined as a proliferation of various harmful strains of bacteria in the body. They can affect any part(s) of the body including the respiratory tract, urinary tract, eyes, ears, skin, soft tissue, or bones.

    VEPAN DT 100MG TABLET must be taken with meals to avoid unwanted gastrointestinal side effects. Your doctor will decide the suitable dose for your child depending upon their age, body weight and severity of the infection.

    Make sure that your child does not miss a dose of VEPAN DT 100MG TABLET, as it may lead to the growth of harmful bacteria within their body which cannot be further controlled by VEPAN DT 100MG TABLET.

    VEPAN DT 100MG TABLET should not be used if your child is allergic to penicillin antibiotics (such as amoxicillin and ampicillin) or has severe kidney impairment. It is also important to inform your doctor if your child is going to undergo any blood test or urine test while undergoing therapy with VEPAN DT 100MG TABLET.

    The most common side effects of taking VEPAN DT 100MG TABLET are nausea, vomiting, stomach pain and diarrhoea. These side effects may probably reduce if VEPAN DT 100MG TABLET is taken along with meals. However, consult your doctor if any of these side effects bother your child.

    Uses Of VEPAN DT 100MG TABLET

    It is indicated for the management of the following bacterial infections in young children (who weigh less than 40 kg):

    •  throat infections (such as pharyngitis and tonsillitis)
    • respiratory infections (such as pneumonia)
    •  urinary tract infections (such as cystitis or pyelonephritis)
    • skin and soft tissue infections (such as abscesses, furunculosis, impetigo, erysipelas, pyoderma, lymphadenitis

    How VEPAN DT 100MG TABLET Works

    VEPAN DT 100MG TABLET kills harmful bacteria where cefadroxil binds to the bacterial cell and interferes with the formation of the bacterial cell wall. As a result, it weakens the bacterial cells and causes lysis of the bacteria.

    How to use VEPAN DT 100MG TABLET

    Take VEPAN DT 100MG TABLET as advised by your physician. Disperse the medicine in boiled and cool water immediately before consumption. VEPAN DT 100MG TABLET must be taken with meals to avoid unwanted gastrointestinal side effects. Your doctor will decide the suitable dose and duration of therapy for your child depending upon their age, body weight and severity of infection.

    It is important to take the full course of VEPAN DT 100MG TABLET without any interruption.     Side Effects Of VEPAN DT 100MG TABLET

    Common

    • nausea, vomiting
    • diarrhoea, indigestion, stomach pain
    • skin rash with itching
    • swollen sore tongue

    Uncommon

    • vaginal fungal infections or ‘thrush’

    Rare

    • unexplained bruising or bleeding, which may be due to reduced platelets
    • fever, feeling weak, generally unwell, muscle pain with or without swollen glands (serum sickness)
    • joint pain

    Contact your doctor immediately if your child experiences any of the following side effects:

    • signs of infections (such as fever, general weakness, sore throat or mouth and problems in passing urine)
    • severe allergic reaction (such as skin rash, itching, swelling of the face, tongue or pharynx, difficulty swallowing or breathing and chest tightness)
    • signs of kidney problems (such as bloody or cloudy urine, scanty or no urine accompanied by lower back pain)
    • inflammation of the colon (colitis) with bloody diarrhoea
    • severe skin reactions causing blistering of the skin, mouth, eyes, and genitals
    • signs of low RBC count (such as yellow or pale skin, weakness, or breathlessness)

     

    How To Manage Side Effects

    Nausea and Vomiting:

    Make sure that your child takes VEPAN DT 100MG TABLET with or just after meals. Eating a simple meal can be beneficial. Avoid giving them oil-rich or spicy foods. Consult your doctor if nausea worsens in your child.

    Diarrhoea:

    Make sure that your child drinks plenty of fluids, such as water or fruit juices to keep themselves hydrated. Consuming ORS can also be beneficial. Do not self-manage diarrhea on your own. Consult your doctor if your child experiences severe diarrhoea with blood stains.

    Breastfeeding

    Driving and Using Machines

    VEPAN DT 100MG TABLET may make your child feel dizzy. Therefore, do not let your child to ride bicycle on their own or play with heavy objects. Keep them away from playing outdoors as well.

    Kidney

    VEPAN DT 100MG TABLET is not recommended for use in children who have severe kidney problems, It should be used with caution in those undergoing dialysis. Therefore, consult your doctor for advice.

    Liver

    VEPAN DT 100MG TABLET should be used with caution if your child has any liver problems. Therefore, consult your doctor for advice.

    Allergy

    Talk to your doctor if your child is allergic to Cefadroxil or to any other penicillin antibiotics (Ex. amoxicillin).

    Others

    Before using VEPAN DT 100MG TABLET in children, inform your doctor if they:

    • are going to have any blood test (such as Coombs test) or urine test
    • have a history of stomach problems

    Interactions

    A. Drug-Drug interactions

    Inform your doctor if your child is taking any of the following medicines such as:

    • medicines used for blood thinning (Ex. heparin and warfarin)
    • medicines used to manage gout (Ex. probenecid)
    • medicines used to lower elevated blood cholesterol levels (Ex. cholestyramine)
    • antibiotics used to manage bacterial infection (Ex. erythromycin, sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim, chloramphenicol, polymyxin B, vancomycin, colistin, gentamicin)
    • diuretics (used to increase urine output) Ex. furosemide

    Overdosage:

    If your child accidentally took more VEPAN DT 100MG TABLET consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdosage might include allergic reaction causing dizziness or breathing difficulties, low blood pressure, abnormal heartbeat, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, skin eruptions or muscular contractions.
