Introduction About VANLID 250MG CAPSULE
VANLID 250MG CAPSULE contains Vancomycin which belongs to the group of medicines called Glycopeptide antibiotics. It is used for the management of diarrhoea (loose or watery stools that occurs frequently than usual) caused by Clostridium difficile bacteria. It is also used for the management of Enterocolitis caused by staphylococcus aureus bacterium.
Enterocolitis is an inflammation of the digestive tract that affects inner part of the small intestine and colon (part of large intestine). Symptoms include loose stools, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, fever, intestinal bleeding and tiredness.
Before taking VANLID 250MG CAPSULE, your doctor will do few blood tests to determine the exact organism which is responsible for infection. Your doctor will monitor your kidney function tests before initiating the management and during management with VANLID 250MG CAPSULE. It should be used only to manage infections that are proven or strongly suspected to be caused by susceptible bacteria.
VANLID 250MG CAPSULE is not recommended for use in patients who are allergic to vancomycin. Before taking VANLID 250MG CAPSULE inform your doctor if you have kidney diseases, hearing problems, blood disorders or any digestive tract disorders (such as ulcerative colitis). VANLID 250MG CAPSULE should be used with caution during pregnancy and breast-feeding only if clearly advised by the doctor.
It should be used with caution in elderly patients particularly with reduced renal function. The common side effects of taking VANLID 250MG CAPSULE are nausea, vomiting, excess gas, fever, headache and tiredness. Consult your doctor if any of the side effect worsens.

How VANLID 250MG CAPSULE Works
VANLID 250MG CAPSULE is a glycopeptide antibiotic that works by blocking cell wall synthesis of disease-causing bacteria. This leads to management of bacterial growth in the body and helps to reduce the infection and its symptoms. In addition, vancomycin alters bacterial-cell-membrane permeability and RNA synthesis.
How to use VANLID 250MG CAPSULE
Take VANLID 250MG CAPSULE exactly as advised by your doctor. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not chew or open the medicine contents. Do not stop taking VANLID 250MG CAPSULE without doctor’s advice even if you feel better. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and severity of the infection.
Side Effects Of VANLID 250MG CAPSULE
Common
- headache
- nausea, vomiting
- diarrhoea, excess gas
- fever, swelling in body parts, tiredness
- urinary tract infections
- back pain
Rare
Stop taking VANLID 250MG CAPSULE and contact your doctor if you experience any of the following side effects:
- decrease in functioning of kidney with symptoms of decreased urination, swelling and high blood pressure (symptoms of nephrotoxicity)
- occurrence of superinfections (reinfection by different micro-organisms)
- signs of decrease in neutrophil (fever, cough, sore throat, mouth ulcers, diarrhea) and platelet count (easy bleeding or bruising)
- infection doesn’t reduce after management (development of drug resistant bacteria)
- severe skin reactions (steven – johnson syndrome) (signs include rashes, blisters, pain along with fever)
- occurrence of areas with redness and swelling on body along with fever (skin condition called acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis)
- painful red area without blister formation which spreads quickly and causes skin to peel along with fever and chills (toxic epidermal necrolysis)
- drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS) (signs include fever, skin rash, facial swelling and enlarged lymph nodes)
How To Manage Side Effects
Nausea and Vomiting:
Try to take VANLID 250MG CAPSULE with or just after a meal or a snack. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oily, fried or spicy foods. Do not lie down or sleep immediately after eating. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.
Diarrhoea:
Drink lot of fluids such as water or fruit juice to keep yourself hydrated. Avoid eating high-fat or spicy foods. Do not take any medicine on your own to manage diarrhea without consulting your doctor.
Headache:
Drink ample amount of water and avoid skipping meals. Get adequate rest. Try to be relaxed and stress free. Avoid watching bright screen for long time. Apply pain relieving balm on your forehead if necessary. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.
Tiredness:
Drink plenty of fluid and eat balanced diet and frequent meals. Do regular minimal exercise (such as walking) and follow regular sleep schedule. Consult your doctor if the symptom gets worse.

Pregnancy
VANLID 250MG CAPSULE should be used with caution in pregnant women only if it is considered clearly necessary. Consult your doctor before taking it.

Breastfeeding
It is not known whether VANLID 250MG CAPSULE is excreted in human milk, hence it should be used with caution during breastfeeding. Your doctor will decide whether to discontinue breast-feeding or to discontinue from VANLID 250MG CAPSULE therapy considering the risks and benefit of the therapy. Consult your doctor before taking it.

Kidney
VANLID 250MG CAPSULE should be taken with caution in patients undergoing management for kidney diseases. Consult your doctor before taking it.

Allergy
Do not take VANLID 250MG CAPSULE if you are allergic to Vancomycin or any other glycopeptide antibiotics (Ex. Telavancin, Corbomycin).
Others
Before taking VANLID 250MG CAPSULE inform your doctor if you:
- have inflammatory disease of digestive tract (Ex. ulcerative colitis)
- are immunocompromised (chances of getting infection is more likely)
- have hearing problems
- have blood disorders
- are sensitive to any food or medicine
Use in pediatrics:

Interactions
A. Drug–drug interactions:
Before taking VANLID 250MG CAPSULE inform your doctor if you have received or taking any of the following medicines:
- medicines used to manage diarrhoea (Ex. codeine, loperamide, kaolin)
- medicines used to manage acidity (Ex. omeprazole, pantoprazole and lansoprazole)
- other medicines used to manage bacterial infections (Ex. gentamicin, amikacin)
- amphotericin B (used to manage fungal infections)
- aspirin (used to reduce fever and pain)
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally takes too much of VANLID 250MG CAPSULE, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital.
