    Introduction About TRULAX TABLET

    TRULAX TABLET contains Sodium picosulfate which belongs to the group of medicines called Laxatives. It is used for short term relief of functional constipation. Constipation is defined as fewer than three bowel movements a week, stools that are hard, dry, lumpy, difficult or painful to pass.

    Your doctor might advise to take rich fibre diet, more fluid intake, and do regular exercise. TRULAX TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with acute liver failure, severe dehydration, ileus, gastrointestinal obstruction, gastrointestinal ulceration or perforation.

    It is also not recommended if you have appendicitis, acute inflammatory bowel diseases, severe abdominal pain associated with nausea and vomiting, sudden/severe abdominal pain just before intake, undiagnosed rectal bleeding.

    TRULAX TABLET should be used with caution in patients with kidney, heart disease, recent gastro-intestinal surgery, inflammatory bowel disease. Contact your doctor before taking. TRULAX TABLET is generally not recommended for use in pregnancy and breastfeeding women unless it is clearly necessary.

    TRULAX TABLET is not recommended for use in children under 10 years of age. TRULAX TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients. The most common side effects of taking TRULAX TABLET are diarrhoea, abdominal pain, cramps, or discomfort. Do consult your physician if any of the side effects worsen.

    How TRULAX TABLET Works

    TRULAX TABLET works by increasing the mucosa of the large intestine and rectum. Which in turn increases its motility (movement), accumulation of water, hence softening the stool and stimulating defecation (emptying of bowel).

    How to use TRULAX TABLET

    Take TRULAX TABLET as advised by your doctor. Swallow the whole medicine with glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of medicine depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.       

    Side Effects Of TRULAX TABLET

    Common

    • diarrhoea
    • abdominal pain, cramps or discomfort

    Uncommon

    • nausea
    • vomiting

    Rare

    • hypersensitivity (such as angioneurotic oedema and skin reactions)

    Stop taking TRULAX TABLET and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

    • severe allergic reaction (symptoms include rash, swelling of skin, mouth, face leading to swallowing or breathing difficulties)

    How To Manage Side Effects

    Stomach pain:

    Try to rest and relax. Eat small meals but take frequently. Keep a heat pad on your stomach. Contact your doctor if the stomach pain doesn’t improve.

    Diarrhoea:

    Drink plenty of water or fruit juices to keep yourself hydrated. Don’t take any medicine on your own for managing diarrhoea. Contact your doctor if diarrhoea worsen.

    Pregnancy

    TRULAX TABLET is generally not recommended for use in pregnancy or women planning to have a baby unless it is considered clearly necessary by the doctor. Contact your doctor before taking it.

    Breastfeeding

    TRULAX TABLET is generally not recommended for use in breastfeeding women unless it is considered clearly necessary by the doctor. Contact your doctor before taking TRULAX TABLET.

    Driving and Using Machines

    TRULAX TABLET has no or negligible influence on ability to drive and use machines.

    Kidney

    TRULAX TABLET should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Contact your doctor before taking TRULAX TABLET.

    Liver

    TRULAX TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with and acute liver failure. Contact your doctor before taking.

    Allergy

    Do not take TRULAX TABLET if you are allergic to Sodium picosulfate or any other ingredients of this medicine.

    Heart Disease

    TRULAX TABLET should be used with caution in patients with heart disease. Contact your doctor before taking.

    Others

    TRULAX TABLET is not recommended for use if you have:

    • severe dehydration
    • ileus (bowel condition causing blockage in the intestine)
    • gastrointestinal obstruction, ulceration or perforation
    • acute abdominal surgical conditions including appendicitis
    • acute inflammatory bowel diseases
    • severe abdominal pain associated with nausea and vomiting
    • sudden, severe abdominal pain just before intake
    • undiagnosed rectal bleeding

    Before taking TRULAX TABLET tell your doctor if you have:

    • recent gastro-intestinal surgery
    • inflammatory bowel disease

    Use in Paediatrics:

    TRULAX TABLET is not recommended for use in children under 10 years of age. Contact your doctor before taking.

    Use in Geriatrics:

    TRULAX TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients aged due to increased susceptibility to the effects of dehydration. Contact your doctor before taking.

    Interactions

    A. Drug-Drug Interactions:

    Before taking TRULAX TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:

    • diuretics (medicines used to increase urine output) Ex. amiloride
    • corticosteroids (medicines used to manage inflammatory conditions) Ex. cortisone
    • lithium (used to manage mental illness)
    • cardiac glycosides (used to manage heart disorders) Ex. digoxin
    • anti-epileptics (medicines used to manage fits) Ex. carbamazepine
    • contraceptives (medicines used to manage pregnancy) Ex. progestin
    • anti-diabetics (medicines used to manage diabetes) Ex. metformin, glipizide
    • NSAIDs (medicines used to manage pain) Ex. diclofenac, ibuprofen
    • tricyclic antidepressants (Ex. amoxapine), selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors (medicines used to manage depression, anxiety and panic disorders) Ex. fluoxetine
    • antipsychotic drugs (medicines used to manage psychoses) Ex. clozapine, haloperidol
    • carbamazepine (to manage epilepsy)
    • antibiotics (used to manage infections) Ex. amoxicillin

    Overdosage:

    If you or anyone else accidentally take too much of TRULAX TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdose are diarrhoea, abdominal cramps and a clinically significant loss of potassium and other electrolytes.
