    Introduction About TAVEGYL SYRUP

    TAVEGYL SYRUP contains Clemastine which belongs to the group of medicines called Antihistamines. It is used for the management of symptoms associated with allergic rhinitis such as sneezing, running nose, itchy skin (pruritis) and lacrimation (flow of tears from eyes) in children above 6 to 12 years of age and adults.

    Allergic rhinitis is an inflammation in the inner part of nose caused by an allergen such as dust, pollen or flakes of skin from animals or birds.

    TAVEGYL SYRUP should be used with caution in patients with bronchial asthma, heart diseases, high blood pressure, glaucoma, peptic ulcer, enlarged prostate gland, hyperthyroidism. Consult a doctor before taking it.

    TAVEGYL SYRUP should be used in pregnancy only if clearly necessary. It is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women. Consult your doctor before taking it.

    TAVEGYL SYRUP is not recommended for use in newborns and premature infants. It should be used with caution in elderly people above 60 years. Consult your doctor before taking it.

    The most common side effects of taking TAVEGYL SYRUP includes sedation, sleepiness, dizziness, disturbed coordination, thickening of bronchial secretions, stomach discomfort. Consult your doctor if any of the symptoms worsen.

    How TAVEGYL SYRUP Works

    TAVEGYL SYRUP works by blocking the effects of a chemical called histamine, a substance released in the body during allergic reactions. Thus, helps to control allergic symptoms such as itching in the eyes, watery eyes, sneezing, running or blocked nose.

    How to use TAVEGYL SYRUP

    Take TAVEGYL SYRUP as advised by your doctor. Shake well before use. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending on your age, body weight and severity of the infection.

    Side Effects Of TAVEGYL SYRUP

    Common

    • sedation
    • sleepiness
    • dizziness
    • disturbed coordination
    • thickening of bronchial secretions
    • stomach discomfort

    Rare

    Dizziness:

    Try to rest and relax. Get enough sleep. Avoid driving or operating any machines while you are feeling dizzy. Do not drink alcohol, as it can aggravate your dizziness. Contact your doctor if your dizziness did not improve.

    Stomach pain:

    Try to rest and relax. Eat small meals but take them frequently. Keep a heating pad on your stomach. Contact your doctor if your stomach pain worsens.

    Pregnancy

    TAVEGYL SYRUP should be used in pregnancy only if clearly necessary. Consult a doctor before taking it.

    Breastfeeding

    TAVEGYL SYRUP is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women. Consult your doctor before taking TAVEGYL SYRUP.

    Driving and Using Machines

    TAVEGYL SYRUP may cause drowsiness, dizziness, blurred vision. Do not drive or operate any machines after taking this medicine.

    Alcohol

    Avoid consumption of alcohol while taking TAVEGYL SYRUP to avoid getting unwanted side effects such as additive CNS depression (slow down of body’s neurological functions).

    Allergy

    Do not take TAVEGYL SYRUP if you are allergic to Clemastine or to other antihistamines. Consult your doctor before taking TAVEGYL SYRUP.

    Lungs

    TAVEGYL SYRUP should be used with caution in patients with bronchial asthma. Consult your doctor before taking it.

    Heart Disease

    TAVEGYL SYRUP should be used with caution in patients with heart diseases and high blood pressure. Consult a doctor before taking it.

    Others

    Before taking TAVEGYL SYRUP inform your doctor if you:

    • have narrow angle glaucoma (increased pressure in the eye)
    • have stenosing peptic ulcer (narrowing of the upper digestive tract caused by an ulcer)
    • have pyloroduodenal obstruction (obstruction caused by inflammation of the intestine)
    • have enlargement of prostate gland
    • have bladder neck obstruction (urinary retention)
    • have hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid gland)

    Use in pediatrics:

    TAVEGYL SYRUP is not recommended for use in newborns and premature infants. It should be used with caution in children from 6 years to 12 years. Consult your doctor before taking it.

    Use in geriatrics:

    TAVEGYL SYRUP should be used with caution in elderly people above 60 years as it may cause dizziness, sedation and hypotension (low blood pressure). Consult your doctor before taking it.

    Interactions

    A. Drug-Drug interactions:

    Before giving TAVEGYL SYRUP to your child, inform your doctor if your child is taking any of the following medicines

    • barbiturates (medicines used to manage fits and sleeplessness) Ex. phenobarbital
    • tranquillizers (medicines used to manage anxiety, mental disorders). Ex. diazepam, alprazolam
    • monoamine oxidase inhibitors (medicines used to manage depression) Ex. tranylcypromine, selegiline

    Overdosage:

    If you or anyone else accidentally took too more of this medicine, visit a nearby hospital or consult your doctor immediately. Symptoms of overdosage in children include excitement, hallucinations (seeing or hearing something that is not there), ataxia or incoordination, muscle twitching, athetosis (slow involuntary movements), fever, cyanosis (bluish discolouration of the skin, fits, tremors and hyperreflexia followed by postictal depression, cardiorespiratory arrest, dry mouth, fixed dilated pupils, flushing of the face and fever.

    In adults, CNS depression, ranging from drowsiness to coma is the most common symptom. In both children and adults, coma and cardiovascular collapse may occur and leads to death, especially in infants and children.
