    Introduction About TARGOCID 200MG INJECTION

    TARGOCID 200MG INJECTION contains Teicoplanin which belongs to the group of medicines called Antibiotics. It is used to manage various bacterial infections like infections of the skin and beneath the skin (soft tissue), bones and joints, lungs, urinary tract, heart (endocarditis), abdominal wall (peritonitis) and the blood.

    Bacterial infections are caused by multiplication of specific harmful strain of bacteria anywhere in the body. It is generally characterized by fever, extreme tiredness, swollen lymph nodes in the neck, armpits, groin or elsewhere, headache, nausea or vomiting.

    Before receiving TARGOCID 200MG INJECTION, inform your doctor if you have flushing of the upper part of the body (red man syndrome), a decrease in platelet count (thrombocytopenia) and kidney problems or liver problems.  

    TARGOCID 200MG INJECTION is not recommended for use in pregnant and breastfeeding women unless advised by the doctor. TARGOCID 200MG INJECTION should be used with caution in children (including newborns) or adolescents and in elderly patients.

    The most common side effects of receiving TARGOCID 200MG INJECTION are rash, skin redness, itching, pain and fever. Inform your doctor if any of these side effect worsens.

    Uses Of TARGOCID 200MG INJECTION

    It manages various bacterial infections of the:

    • skin and beneath the skin (soft tissue)
    • bones and joints
    • lungs
    • urinary tract
    • heart (endocarditis)
    • abdominal wall (peritonitis)
    • blood

    How TARGOCID 200MG INJECTION Works

    TARGOCID 200MG INJECTION contains Teicoplanin which works by inhibiting the formation of bacterial cell wall, thereby impairing the bonds that hold the bacterial cell wall together. This allows holes in the bacterial cell wall, which kills the bacteria. Thus, helps in managing and managing the spread of infections.

    How to use TARGOCID 200MG INJECTION

    TARGOCID 200MG INJECTION will be given to you only by a doctor or a nurse into a vein as an intravenous injection or into a muscle as an intramuscular injection. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending on your age, body weight and disease condition.

    Side Effects Of TARGOCID 200MG INJECTION

    Common

    • rash, itching
    • skin redness
    • pain
    • fever

    Uncommon

    • hearing loss, ringing in the ears
    • feeling that you or things around you are moving
    • nausea, vomiting
    • diarrhoea
    • feeling dizzy
    • headache

    Rare

    • flushing of the upper body
    • infection (abscess)

    While receiving TARGOCID 200MG INJECTION inform your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:   

    • allergic reaction (signs may include difficulty in breathing or wheezing, swelling, rash, itching, fever, chills)
    • toxic epidermal necrolysis or Stevens-Johnson syndrome (signs include blistering of the skin, mouth, eyes or genitals)
    • acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis (AGEP) (signs include red scaly widespread rash with bumps under the skin (including the skin folds, chest, abdomen, back and arms) and blisters accompanied by fever
    • drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS) (symptoms may include a rash on the face then an extended rash with an elevated temperature, elevated liver enzymes, an increase in white blood cell (eosinophilia), and enlarged lymph nodes
    • swelling and clotting in a vein
    • getting more infections than usual
    • lack of white blood cells (signs may include fever, severe chills, sore throat or mouth ulcers (agranulocytosis))  
    • epileptic fits

    How To Manage Side Effects

    Headache:

    Drink ample amount of water and avoid skipping meals. Get adequate rest. Try to be relaxed and stress free. Apply pain relieving balm on your forehead if necessary. Inform your doctor if the symptom does not improve.

    Nausea or vomiting:

    Stick to simple meals while receiving this medicine. Avoid eating oily rich, fried or spicy foods. Do not lie down or sleep immediately after eating. Inform your doctor if the symptom does not improve.

    Diarrhea:

    Drink lot of fluids, such as water to keep yourself hydrated. Avoid eating high-fat or spicy foods. Inform your doctor if the symptom gets worse.

    Warning & Precautions

    Pregnancy

    TARGOCID 200MG INJECTION is generally not recommended for use in pregnant women unless considered clearly necessary. There may be a potential risk of inner ear and kidney problems. Consult your doctor before receiving TARGOCID 200MG INJECTION.

    Breastfeeding

    TARGOCID 200MG INJECTION is generally not recommended for use in breastfeeding women unless considered clearly necessary. Consult your doctor before receiving TARGOCID 200MG INJECTION.

    Driving and Using Machines

    Do not drive or operate any machines if you experience dizziness or headaches after receiving TARGOCID 200MG INJECTION.

    Kidney

    TARGOCID 200MG INJECTION should be used with caution in patients with kidney problems. Your doctor may have regular tests to check if your kidneys are working properly. Consult your doctor before receiving TARGOCID 200MG INJECTION.

    Liver

    Your doctor may have regular tests to check if your liver is working properly during management with TARGOCID 200MG INJECTION.

    Allergy

    Do not receive TARGOCID 200MG INJECTION if you are allergic to Teicoplanin or any other ingredients of this medicine. It should be used with caution in patients who are allergic to vancomycin.

    Others

    Before receiving TARGOCID 200MG INJECTION, inform your doctor if you have:

    • decrease in platelet count (thrombocytopenia)

    Use in pediatrics:

    Interactions

    A. Drug-Drug interactions:

    Before receiving TARGOCID 200MG INJECTION, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:     

    • aminoglycosides like gentamicin, streptomycin (used to manage bacterial infections)
    • amphotericin B (medicine used to manage fungal infections)
    • ciclosporin (medicine used to manage transplant rejection)
    • cisplatin (medicine used to manage malignant tumors)
    • diuretics such as furosemide (used to manage water retention)

    Overdosage:

    TARGOCID 200MG INJECTION will be administered to you only by a doctor or a nurse in a hospital, and so it is unlikely to receive an overdose. However, consult your doctor if you experience any unusual symptoms or the worsening of the existing symptoms.
