Description
The Sterimed Silicon Foley Balloon Catheter is a medical device designed for short or long-term urinary drainage. Made from 100% medical-grade silicone, this 2-way catheter is biocompatible, reducing the risk of tissue irritation and allergic reactions sometimes associated with latex catheters. It is intended for individuals experiencing urinary retention, those recovering from surgery, or for other medical conditions that necessitate continuous bladder drainage. The silicone material offers a smooth surface for more comfortable insertion and use.
100% Silicone Construction: Made from medical-grade silicone, which is biocompatible and designed for patient comfort, making it suitable for individuals with latex allergies. 2-Way Design: Features two channels; one for draining urine from the bladder and a second for inflating the balloon to hold the catheter securely in place. Smooth, Flexible Shaft: The catheter's low-friction surface and flexibility are designed to minimize trauma and discomfort during insertion and removal. Tear-Resistant Balloon: The highly elastic silicone balloon is designed for reliability and secure placement within the bladder once inflated. Sterile and Individually Packed: Each catheter is supplied in a sterile, peelable pouch to maintain hygiene and reduce the risk of infection.
Q: What is a 2-way Foley catheter?
A: A 2-way Foley catheter has two channels: one drains urine from the bladder into a collection bag, and the other is used to inflate a small balloon with sterile water to hold the catheter in place inside the bladder.
Q: What is the purpose of the silicone material?
A: The catheter is made from 100% medical-grade silicone, which is biocompatible, hypoallergenic, and designed for long-term use, minimizing tissue irritation and the risk of allergic reactions.
Q: What does the 'FR-20' size indicate?
A: FR-20 refers to the size of the catheter, with 'FR' standing for French scale, which measures the outer diameter. The size 20 FR has a corresponding yellow color code for easy identification.
Q: How long can a silicone Foley catheter be used?
A: Silicone catheters are suitable for long-term catheterization, which can be for periods longer than 28 days, as they are resistant to encrustation and bacterial colonization. However, it is advisable to consult a healthcare professional regarding the duration of use.
Q: Does the insertion and use of this catheter require professional medical assistance?
A: Yes, the insertion, management, and removal of a Foley catheter should be performed by a qualified healthcare professional to ensure it is done correctly and to minimize risks such as infection or injury.

Key Benefits
Provides continuous and efficient urine drainage for individuals unable to urinate naturally. Made of biocompatible silicone, which may lower the risk of allergic reactions and tissue irritation. The smooth surface helps to inhibit bacterial growth and the formation of encrustations, which can reduce the incidence of urinary tract infections (UTIs). Designed for patient comfort during both short-term and long-term catheterization due to its flexible nature. The secure balloon placement ensures the catheter remains in the correct position for consistent drainage.

Direction for Use/Dosage
This procedure should only be performed by a qualified healthcare professional. Ensure proper aseptic technique is followed throughout the procedure. The genital area is cleaned, and a lubricant is applied to the catheter tip to ease insertion. Gently insert the catheter through the urethra until it reaches the bladder and urine begins to flow. Once urine flow is established, advance the catheter slightly further and inflate the balloon using sterile water as per the manufacturer's recommendation to secure it in place. Connect the drainage end of the catheter to a collection bag, ensuring the bag is kept below the level of the bladder to facilitate drainage.

Safety Information/Precaution
For single use only. Do not reuse. Always wash hands thoroughly with soap and water before and after handling the catheter or drainage bag. Do not use if the individual packaging is open or damaged. Keep the drainage bag below the level of the bladder and off the floor to prevent backflow and contamination. Ensure the catheter tubing is not kinked or blocked to allow for proper urine flow. Consult a healthcare provider immediately if you experience fever, chills, or new soreness where the catheter enters the body. This device should be inserted and cared for by a trained healthcare professional.
