More Information
A productive cough in babies typically indicates the presence of mucus or phlegm in the airways, which the baby is trying to expel. This type of cough is often associated with respiratory infections, such as bronchiolitis, pneumonia, or a cold, where the airways become inflamed and produce excess mucus. In infants, this can lead to symptoms like noisy breathing, wheezing, and a persistent cough. A productive cough is usually a sign that the body is working to clear the airways, but it should be monitored, especially if it's accompanied by difficulty breathing, fever, or feeding problems. In such cases, medical attention is necessary.
