    Introduction About SORVATE OINTMENT

    SORVATE OINTMENT contains Calcipotriol which belongs to group of medicines called Anti-psoriatics. SORVATE OINTMENT is used to manage plaque psoriasis (long-lasting autoimmune disease that cause thicky scaly patches on skin) in affected individuals.

    SORVATE OINTMENT is not recommended for use in patients allergic to Calcipotriol. It is also not recommended for use in patients with a history of hypersensitivity reaction (immune response to an allergen), calcium metabolism disorders (due to high/low calcium levels), vitamin D toxicity, and/or severe liver & kidney disease.

    Before applying SORVATE OINTMENT, inform your doctor if you are a smoker, undergoing ultraviolet management, and/or suffering from exfoliative/pustular psoriasis.

    [GBNKEYWORLD] should be used with caution during pregnancy only if it is clearly necessary. It is also used with caution in breastfeeding women which is advised not to apply on breast area while feeding the baby.

    SORVATE OINTMENT is not recommended for use in children (aged below 6 years) and is advised to be used with caution in elderly patients (aged 65 years/above) after consulting the doctor.  

    The most common side effects of applying SORVATE OINTMENT are pain at the site of application, burning/stinging sensation, skin irritation, itching, itchy rash, and skin redness. Consult your doctor if any of these symptoms worsens.

    How SORVATE OINTMENT Works

    SORVATE OINTMENT works by inhibiting cell growth and its development without causing any harm to the cell which results in decreased growth of abnormal cells thus controlling psoriatic condition and managing the condition in affected individuals.

    How to use SORVATE OINTMENT

    Always apply SORVATE OINTMENT as directed by your physician. It is for external use only. Apply a thin layer of this medicine on the affected area. Managed areas on the face need not be covered with a plaster or bandage. Do not use this medicine on your face.

    Side Effects Of SORVATE OINTMENT

    Common

    • pain at the site of application
    • burning/stinging sensation
    • skin irritation
    • itching
    • itchy rash
    • skin redness
    • dry skin
    • peeling skin
    • dermatitis (skin inflammation)
    • worsening of psoriasis

    Uncommon

    • skin atrophy (thin skin)
    • hyperpigmentation (darkened patches or spots on the skin)
    • signs of hypercalcemia (high calcium level in blood) frequent urination, thirst, weakness, bone pain
    • folliculitis (inflammation of hair follicle)
    • red, itchy, scaly rash
    • blisters may form on skin
    • changes in skin colour where the medicine is used

    Rare

    • signs hypersensitivity reaction (immune response to an allergen) such as rash, itching, watery eyes, coughing/sneezing
    • temporary increased sensitivity to sunlight
    • skin swelling or puffiness
    • itchy raised rash
    • seborrheic dermatitis such as dandruff or cradle cap
    • signs of hypercalciuria (excess calcium in the urine) such as pain while urination, lower abdominal pain

    Stop taking SORVATE OINTMENT and contact your doctor immediately if:

    • signs of hypercalcemia (excess calcium in blood) and hypercalciuria (excess calcium in the urine) such as increased urinary frequency, excessive thirst, loss of appetite, dry/metallic taste in the mouth, stomach upsets (includes pain, nausea, vomiting and constipation), weak muscles and/or pain in the bones, tiredness, fatigue, confusion, feeling sick and constipation
    • signs of allergic reactions such as difficulty while breathing, swelling of face including eyes, severe skin rash (particularly blistering or bleeding)

    How To Manage Side Effects

    Dry Skin:

    Try moisturizing your skin with an ointment, cream, or lotion 2 or 3 times a day, or as often as needed.  Moisturizers help to keep the area moisture, so they work best on damp skin. After you bathe, pat your skin dry then apply your moisturizer. Try to avoid using skin care products and soaps that contain alcohol, fragrances, dyes, or other chemicals.

    Itchy Skin:

    Try to pat or tap your skin instead of scratching it. Hold a damp towel to cool your skin. Wear loose clothing and avoid tight clothes, or clothes made from wool or synthetic fabrics. Avoid using perfumed soaps, deodorants or moisturizers and use a skin softener regularly.

    Pregnancy

    SORVATE OINTMENT should be used with caution in pregnant women only if it is clearly necessary. Consult your doctor before applying it.

    Breastfeeding

    SORVATE OINTMENT should be used with caution in breastfeeding women. It is not recommended to be applied on breast area while feeding the baby. Consult your doctor before applying the medicine.

    Driving and Using Machines

    SORVATE OINTMENT generally does not have any effect on your ability to drive or use machines. Consult your doctor before applying the medicine.

    Kidney

    SORVATE OINTMENT is not recommended for use in patients suffering from severe kidney problems. Consult your doctor before applying the medicine.

    Liver

    SORVATE OINTMENT is not recommended for use in patients suffering from severe liver problems. Consult your doctor before applying the medicine.

    Allergy

    Do not take SORVATE OINTMENT if you are allergic to Calcipotriol or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.

    Others

    SORVATE OINTMENT is not recommended for use if you:

    • have history of hypersensitivity reactions (immune response to an allergen)
    • have calcium metabolism disorders marked with high or low calcium levels.
    • have signs of vitamin D toxicity such as nausea & vomiting, weakness, and frequent urination.

    Before taking SORVATE OINTMENT, inform your doctor if you:

    • smoke
    • are undergoing ultraviolet light management
    • have guttate, erythrodermic, exfoliative or pustular psoriasis

    Use in Pediatrics:

    SORVATE OINTMENT is not recommended for use in children (aged below 6 years). Consult your doctor before applying the medicine.

    Use in Geriatrics:

    SORVATE OINTMENT should be used with caution in elderly patient (aged above 65 years). Consult your doctor before taking.

    Interactions

    A. Drug - Drug interactions:

    Inform your doctor about all the medicines you use, including prescription and non-prescription medicines, and herbal supplements.

    Over dosage:

    If you or anyone else applies too much of SORVATE OINTMENT or accidentally swallows it, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdose include elevated serum calcium levels with signs such as increased urinary frequency, excessive thirst, loss of appetite, dry/metallic taste in the mouth, stomach upsets.
