Introduction About SODIUM LACTATE INFUSION
SODIUM LACTATE INFUSION contains Sodium lactate which belongs to the group of medicines called Minerals and Electrolytes. SODIUM LACTATE INFUSION is used to restore fluids and salts (electrolytes) in the body when there is an acid-base imbalance or when blood is too acidic (metabolic acidosis)
SODIUM LACTATE INFUSION is also used for short term fluid replacement in case of hypovolemia (condition where liquid portion of blood is too low) or in hypotension (low blood pressure).
SODIUM LACTATE INFUSION is not recommended for use in patients allergic to Sodium chloride, Sodium lactate, Potassium chloride, and/or Calcium chloride dihydrate. It is also not recommended of use in patients suffering from extracellular hyperhydration/hypervolemia (excess fluid volume in the body), hyperkalemia (high potassium level in blood)/ hypercalcemia (high calcium level in blood), and/or metabolic alkalosis (high bicarbonate level in blood)/ severe metabolic acidosis (excess acid in the body fluids). The medicine is also not indicated for use in patients suffering from ascitic cirrhosis/severe hepatic insufficiency, severe renal insufficiency (with oliguria/anuria), and/or uncompensated cardiac failure.
Before receiving SODIUM LACTATE INFUSION, inform your doctor if you suffer from high blood levels of potassium, sodium, calcium/chloride, severe metabolic alkalosis (abnormally high levels of bases in the blood), excess water in body, and/or have heart/kidney/liver failure.
SODIUM LACTATE INFUSION should be received with caution during pregnancy only if it is necessary (especially during 3rd trimester period). It is also advised to be used with caution in breastfeeding women as it is excreted in the breastmilk.
SODIUM LACTATE INFUSION is not recommended for use in premature neonates and neonates (≤ 28 days of age) who receive ceftriaxone and is advised to be received with caution in elderly patients suffering from diseases such as heart weakness or impaired kidney function after consulting the doctor.
The most common side effects of receiving SODIUM LACTATE INFUSION are hypernatremia (high sodium level in blood) associated with signs such as muscle weakness, restlessness, extreme thirst, and metabolic alkalosis (increased bicarbonate level in blood) associated with signs such as confusion, lightheadedness, nausea, and/or vomiting. Consult your doctor if any of these symptoms worsens.
Uses Of SODIUM LACTATE INFUSION
- Helps to restore fluids and salts (electrolytes) in the body when there is an acid-base imbalance or when blood is too acidic (metabolic acidosis)
- Acts as a short-term replacement of fluids in case of hypovolemia (condition where liquid portion of blood is too low) or in hypotension (low blood pressure) in affected individuals
How SODIUM LACTATE INFUSION Works
SODIUM LACTATE INFUSION works by replacing lost body fluids and electrolytes in the body which helps to restore extracellular fluid and electrolyte balance in the body thus restoring acid-base balance and managing metabolic acidosis in affected individuals.
How to use SODIUM LACTATE INFUSION
SODIUM LACTATE INFUSION will be given to you only by a doctor or a nurse into a vein as an intravenous infusion. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.
Side Effects Of SODIUM LACTATE INFUSION
