    Introduction About SLEEPWELL 10 TABLET

    SLEEPWELL 10 TABLET contains Zolpidem, which belongs to the group of medicines known as Hypnotics. It is used in the short-term management of insomnia (sleeping disorder) in adults (above 18 years of age). The person with insomnia problems may have difficulty in sleeping, staying awake, or staying asleep, waking up too early etc.

    SLEEPWELL 10 TABLET is not recommended for use in patients who have or had myasthenia gravis (muscle weakness), severe liver diseases, severe breathing problems, sleep apnoea (serious breathing problem while sleeping), psychosis (mental illness), somnambulism (sleepwalking) or abnormal behaviours after taking hypnotic medication in past.

    SLEEPWELL 10 TABLET should be used with caution in patients suffering from any heart problems which include irregular heartbeat, depression, or any other mental illness, in patients suffering from kidney disease, and in patients who have a history of alcohol and drug abuse.

    SLEEPWELL 10 TABLET is not recommended for use by pregnant and breastfeeding women. SLEEPWELL 10 TABLET is not recommended for use in children below 18 years of age. SLEEPWELL 10 TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients above age 65 years. The common side effects of taking SLEEPWELL 10 TABLET are impaired memory, hallucinations, sleeping problems that might get worse, headache, nightmares, nausea, vomiting, feeling drowsy during the day, etc. Consult your doctor immediately if any of your side effects get worse or if you experience abnormal behaviour or develop suicidal thoughts.

    How SLEEPWELL 10 TABLET Works

    SLEEPWELL 10 TABLET helps to manage insomnia. It works by increasing the level of a chemical in the brain called GABA, which blocks or slows down the activity of the brain to induce a calming effect.

    How to use SLEEPWELL 10 TABLET

    Take SLEEPWELL 10 TABLET as advised by your doctor. Do not crush or chew the medicine while consuming it with water. Your doctor will decide the correct dosage, and duration of the management for you depending on your age, body weight and disease condition.

    Side Effects Of SLEEPWELL 10 TABLET

    Common

    • feeling sleepy, dizzy or drowsy
    • headache and fatigue or agitation
    • poor memory, strange behaviour
    • hallucinations, nightmares, depression
    • sleeping problems might get worse
    • diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting
    • abdominal pain
    • back pain
    • respiratory infections

    Uncommon

    • excessive sweating
    • restlessness, aggressive behaviour, confusion, irritation
    • euphoria
    • sleepwalking
    • lack of concentration, speech problems
    • itching or skin rash
    • tremor
    • blurred vision or double vision
    • muscle pain, muscle spasms, weak muscles, neck pain
    • change in appetite
    • burning or creeping on skin, tingling, pricking, burning sensation, numbness
    • changes in liver function tests

    Rare

    • less awareness of surroundings
    • falling injuries (in elderly patients)
    • changes in sexual drive
    • urticaria
    • itchy skin
    • visual impairment
    • delusions
    • cholestasis (a liver condition in which the flow of bile from the liver is stopped
    • signs include jaundice, rash, fever, or dark-coloured urine
    • infection or injury to liver signs includes skin, eyes discoloration, pain in the abdomen, bloating, severe itching, pale or bloody stools, weakness, nausea, loss of appetite
    • changes  the way you walk

    Stop taking SLEEPWELL 10 TABLET and consult your doctor immediately in case you experience any of the following:

    • severe allergic reaction such as rash, itching, hives or urticaria, breathing difficulty and swallowing, swelling in throat, tongue, lips, and face

    How To Manage Side Effects

    Itchy skin:

    Avoid taking hot showers as they can irritate the skin. Do not scratch the affected area. Use sunscreen and protective clothing when going outdoors or use unscented moisturizers to soothe and hydrate the skin. Contact your doctor if the itching persists.

    Headache:

    Take rest and relax. Apply a pain-relieving balm on the head if needed. Contact your doctor if your headache does not improve.

    Dizziness or drowsiness:

    Try to rest and relax. Get enough sleep. Avoid driving or operating machinery if you feel drowsiness or dizziness. Avoid alcohol consumption as it can aggravate dizziness or drowsiness. Contact your doctor if your dizziness or drowsiness worsens.

    Stomach pain:

    Try to rest and relax. Eat small meals but take them frequently. Keep a heating pad on your stomach. Contact your doctor if the stomach pain does not improve.

    Diarrhoea:

    Drink plenty of water or fruit juices to keep yourself hydrated. Don’t take any medicine on your own to manage diarrhoea. Contact your doctor if the diarrhoea gets worse.

    Warning & Precautions

    Pregnancy

    SLEEPWELL 10 TABLET is not recommended for use by pregnant women as it may harm the development of the baby. Such birth defects include cleft lip, cleft palate, reduced foetal movement and foetal heart rate variability, muscle weakness, low body temperature (hypothermia), difficulty feeding and breathing problems (respiratory depression). Consult your doctor before taking SLEEPWELL 10 TABLET.

    Breastfeeding

    SLEEPWELL 10 TABLET is not recommended for use by breastfeeding women as it may pass through breast milk. Consult your doctor before taking SLEEPWELL 10 TABLET.

    Driving and Using Machines

    Do not drive or operate any machines if your feel dizzy, drowsy, sleepy, confused, blurring of vision, or less alert after taking SLEEPWELL 10 TABLET. Consult your doctor for advice.

    Alcohol

    Do not consume alcohol while taking SLEEPWELL 10 TABLET as it can cause difficulty in breathing or walking, or put you in a very deep sleep. Consult your doctor before taking SLEEPWELL 10 TABLET.

    Kidney

    SLEEPWELL 10 TABLET should be used with caution in patients suffering from kidney disease. Consult your doctor before taking SLEEPWELL 10 TABLET.

    Liver

    SLEEPWELL 10 TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with severe liver disease. Consult your doctor before taking SLEEPWELL 10 TABLET.

    Allergy

    Do not take SLEEPWELL 10 TABLET if you are allergic to Zopiclone or lactose or other lactose other ingredients in the medicine.

    Lungs

    SLEEPWELL 10 TABLET is not recommended for use in patients suffering from sleep apnoea (severe breathing disorder in sleep) and in patients with severe respiratory disorders or breathing difficulties. Consult your doctor before taking SLEEPWELL 10 TABLET.

    Heart Disease

    SLEEPWELL 10 TABLET should be used with caution in patients suffering from heart diseases including slow or uneven heartbeat. Consult your doctor before taking SLEEPWELL 10 TABLET.

    Others

    SLEEPWELL 10 TABLET is not recommended for use if you have:

    • myasthenia gravis (muscle weakness)
    • mental illness or psychosis or depression

    Before taking SLEEPWELL 10 TABLET, inform your doctor if you have:

    • depression and any other mental illness
    • drug abuse
    • plans to take a blood test to check liver function
    • thoughts of harming or killing yourself
    • fits

    Use in paediatrics:

    SLEEPWELL 10 TABLET is not recommended for use in children below 18 years of age. Consult your doctor before taking SLEEPWELL 10 TABLET.

    Use in geriatrics:

    SLEEPWELL 10 TABLET should be used with caution in patients more than 65 years of age. Consult your doctor before taking SLEEPWELL 10 TABLET.

    Interactions

    A. Drug-Drug interactions:

    Before taking SLEEPWELL 10 TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:

    • antipsychotics such as clozapine, haloperidol, and chlorpromazine (medicines used to manage mental illness)
    • antidepressants such as sertraline, venlafaxine, fluoxetine, bupropion, and desipramine (medicines used to manage depression)
    • antiepileptics such as phenobarbital, phenytoin, and carbamazepine (medicines used to manage epilepsy)
    • anaesthetics (medicines used to cause numbness or awareness)
    • chlorphenamine, and promethazine (medicines used to manage hay fever or allergies)
    • medicines used to induce calm or reduce anxiety or for managing sleep problems (hypnotics) Ex. diazepam, alprazolam, etc
    • St. John’s Wort (a medicine used to manage depression and mood swings)
    • skeletal muscle relaxants Ex. baclofen (a medicine used to relax muscles)
    • opioids such as codeine, methadone, tramadol, pethidine, oxycodone, and morphine (medicines used for severe pain and cough)
    • rifampicin (a medicine used to manage tuberculosis)
    • ketoconazole, and itraconazole (medicines used to manage fungal infections)
    • clarithromycin, erythromycin, ciprofloxacin (medicines used to manage bacterial infections)
    • ritonavir (medicines used to manage HIV infection)
    • fluvoxamine (medicines used to manage obsessive-compulsive disorder)

    Overdosage:

    If you or anybody else accidentally take too much SLEEPWELL 10 TABLET, consult your doctor or visit the nearest hospital immediately. Symptoms of overdose are drowsiness, confusion, sleeping deeply and possibly falling into a coma.
