Linseed oil has anti-inflammatory effects, antioxidant properties, and improves blood circulation at the site of application. Methyl salicylate is a counterirritant and causes irritation of the skin, and as a result of the counterirritation, there is a sensation of warmth and relief in musculoskeletal pain. Menthol dilates the blood vessels, causing a sensation of coldness followed by an analgesic effect.
