Introduction About SILYBON 140MG TABLET
SILYBON 140MG TABLET contains Silymarin which belongs to the group of medicines called Flavonoids. Silymarin is a flavonoid isolated from the plant species called Silybum marianum which is commonly known as milk thistle.
SILYBON 140MG TABLET is indicated as adjunctive therapy in the management of liver disease of varying conditions like acute hepatitis, chronic persistent and chronic aggressive hepatitis, cirrhosis of liver, fatty liver, toxic metabolic or toxic metabolic liver damage. It has been shown to protect the liver from damage caused by general anaesthesia because of its excellent hepatoprotective action.
Before taking SILYBON 140MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you have allergic to milk thistle or plants of the Asteraceae/Compositae family such as daisies, marigolds, or artichokes.
SILYBON 140MG TABLET is generally not recommended during pregnancy and breast-feeding. Consult your doctor for advice.
SILYBON 140MG TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients and is contraindicated in children and adolescents below 18 years of age.
Generally, SILYBON 140MG TABLET is well tolerated, however a few side effects like gastro-intestinal discomfort including anorexia, nausea or diarrhoea and headache may be seen. If any of these side effects worsen, contact your doctor for advice.

SILYBON 140MG TABLET contains Silymarin, is an herbal remedy that has been used for centuries for liver diseases. The hepatoprotective and antioxidant activities of silymarin effectively lowers the oxidative liver damage by inhibiting the formation of free radicals. Silymarin also enhances the cellular regeneration of hepatocytes (liver cells) by stimulating the activity of an enzyme called RNA polymerase. It also improves the overall functional capacity of the liver and aids in metabolism and digestion.
How to use SILYBON 140MG TABLET
Take SILYBON 140MG TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.
Side Effects Of SILYBON 140MG TABLET
Common
- nausea (feeling sick)
- upset stomach
- diarrhoea
- headache
Uncommon
- anaphylaxis (a sudden, severe allergic reaction with swelling and breathing difficulties)
- mild allergic reactions such as itching and/or skin rash, urticaria, hives, pruritus
Rare
Stop taking SILYBON 140MG TABLET and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
- allergic reactions such as skin rash, red, itchy skin, difficulty breathing, swelling of the facial area, neck, tongue, or throat (anaphylactic shock)
How To Manage Side Effects
Diarrhoea:
Drink lots of fluids and water to keep yourself hydrated. Try to avoid taking any medicine on your own to manage diarrhoea and consult your doctor if the symptom gets worse.
Stomach upset:
Try to eat small and frequent meals. Increase the fluid intake. You can also use homemade ginger or other lozenges to increase the palatability of your food.
Nausea:
Try to relax and rest. Eat and drink slowly or try to have smaller and frequent meals. If symptoms do not improve, contact your doctor.
Headache:
Rest and drink plenty of fluids. Ask your doctor to recommend a painkiller. Consult your doctor for advice.

Pregnancy
SILYBON 140MG TABLET is not recommended for use in pregnant women. Consult your doctor before taking the medicine.

Breastfeeding
SILYBON 140MG TABLET is generally not recommended for use in breastfeeding women as it may pass through the breast milk. Consult your doctor before taking the medicine.

Driving and Using Machines
SILYBON 140MG TABLET is not known to have any effect on driving or operating machines. Consult your doctor for advice.

Alcohol
Alcohol is contraindicated during the management with SILYBON 140MG TABLET. Consult your doctor for advice.

Liver
SILYBON 140MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with history of hepatic encephalopathy. Consult your doctor before taking SILYBON 140MG TABLET.

Allergy
Do not take SILYBON 140MG TABLET if you are allergic to Silymarin or any other ingredients of this medicine.
Others
Use in pediatrics:
SILYBON 140MG TABLET is not recommended for use in children and adolescents below 18 years of age. Consult your doctor before taking the medicine.
Use in geriatrics:
SILYBON 140MG TABLET should be used with caution in elderly (above 65 years of age). Consult your doctor for advice.
