    Introduction About SGLTR TABLET

    SGLTR TABLET contains Remogliflozin which belongs to the group of medicines called Anti-diabetic agents. SGLTR TABLET is used to manage type 2 diabetes when diet and exercise alone are insufficient to provide adequate glycaemic control in adult patients.

    SGLTR TABLET is also used as a combination therapy with metformin, when both metformin therapy and diet & exercise are inadequate provide glycaemic control in affected individuals.

    SGLTR TABLET is not recommended for use in patients allergic to Remogliflozin. It is also not recommended for use in patients with liver problems (such as moderate to severe liver impairment), and/or kidney problems (such as moderate to severe renal impairment).

    Before taking [GBKEYWORD], inform your doctor if you have type 1 diabetes, dehydration (associated with symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and/or loss of excessive fluid from the body), and/or low blood pressure.

    SGLTR TABLET is not recommended for use during pregnancy and in women planning for pregnancy. It is also not recommended for use in breastfeeding women since it is not known whether the medicine may pass through breast milk. 

    SGLTR TABLET is not recommended for use in children and adolescents (aged below 18 years). It is also not recommended for use in elderly patients (aged 75 years/above). Consult your doctor before taking the medicine. 

    The most common side effects of taking SGLTR TABLET are constipation, diarrhoea, weakness, fever, chills, urinary tract infection, and/or headache. Consult your doctor if any of these symptoms worsens.

    How SGLTR TABLET Works

    SGLTR TABLET helps in reducing blood glucose by increasing the excretion of glucose via urine. It does so by acting on certain proteins in the body which are responsible for the reabsorption of glucose from the kidney. SGLTR TABLET inhibits the action of these proteins hence, stopping the reabsorption of glucose and increasing urinary glucose excretion thus helps to manage type 2 diabetes in affected individuals.

    How to use SGLTR TABLET

    Take SGLTR TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, health condition, and body weight.

    Side Effects Of SGLTR TABLET

    Serious

    Stop taking SGLTR TABLET and inform your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

    • signs of diabetic ketoacidosis such as nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, excessive thirst, fast and deep breathing, confusion, unusual sleepiness or tiredness, fruity smelling breath, a sweet or metallic taste in mouth, a different odour in urine or sweat, rapid weight loss
    • signs of severe urinary tract infections such as fever, chills, burning sensation when passing urine, pain in back or sides, and/or blood in urine
    • signs of Fournier’s Gangrene such as fever, pain and swelling in the genitals or anal area, unpleasant odour coming from the affected skin tissue, crackling sound when touching the affected area, and/or dehydration
    • signs of dehydration such as very dry, sticky mouth, feeling very thirsty, passing little or no urine, feeling very sleepy or tired, and/or fast heartbeat

    Common

    • constipation
    • diarrhoea
    • weakness
    • fever and chills
    • urinary tract infection
    • viral upper respiratory tract infection
    • passing little or no urine
    • signs of low blood sugar levels such as sweating, feeling tired, dizziness, and/or feeling shaky
    • headache
    • cough
    • signs of orthostatic hypotension such as low blood pressure, light-headedness/ dizziness upon standing

    Uncommon

    • anaemia
    • vertigo (spinning sensation)
    • eye pain, increased flow of tears
    • stomach pain, stomach discomfort, inflammation of the lining of the stomach, higher levels of gastric acid (heartburn)
    • gastroesophageal reflux (stomach contents move backwards towards the mouth)
    • inflammation of the mouth
    • increases in creatinine (changes in frequency of urination, itching, swelling, fatigue)
    • irregular heartbeats
    • decreased appetite
    • decreased weight
    • build-up of lactate in the body (muscle ache, burning sensation, rapid breathing)
    • excessive fluid consumption as a result of thirst
    • inflammation or pain of joint, back pain, inflammation and swelling of the cartilage of the chest wall, musculoskeletal pain
    • dizziness
    • reduced sense of touch
    • anxiety
    • lack of sleep
    • painful or difficult urination, frequent daytime urination, production of abnormally large volumes of urine
    • inflammation of the glans (rounded head of the penis), posthitis (inflammation of the foreskin)
    • oropharyngeal pain (persistent mouth pain), seasonal allergies
    • rash, skin lesion, red itchy welts
    • high blood pressure

    How To Manage Side Effects

    Constipation

    Eat plenty of fiber rich foods such as fresh fruits, vegetables, and cereals and drink plenty of water. Exercise more regularly. Ask for your doctor’s advice if constipation does not improve.

    Diarrhea

    Drink a lot of fluids, such as water, fruit juice, or squash to keep yourself hydrated. Do not consume any medicine by yourself without consulting your doctor. Ask for your doctor’s advice if diarrhea does not improve.

    Headache

    If SGLTR TABLET causes headache, then take rest and drink plenty of fluids. Try to avoid drinking alcohol. Ask your doctor to recommend a painkiller. Headaches should usually go away after the first week of taking SGLTR TABLET. If it lasts more than a week or severe, inform your doctor.

    Pregnancy

    Contraindicated

    SGLTR TABLET is not recommended for use during pregnancy and in women planning for pregnancy. Women of childbearing potential should use effective contraceptive measures during management with SGLTR TABLET. Consult your doctor before taking the medicine.  

    Breastfeeding

    Contraindicated

    SGLTR TABLET is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women since it is not known whether the medicine may pass through breast milk. Consult your doctor before taking the medicine.

    Driving and Using Machines

    Use with Caution

    Do not drive or operate machines if you experience shaking, sweating, change in vision and/or feel dizzy after taking SGLTR TABLET.

    Alcohol

    Consult your doctor

    Avoid consumption of alcohol while taking SGLTR TABLET since it may increase risk of diabetic ketoacidosis.

    Kidney

    Contraindicated

    SGLTR TABLET is not recommended for use in patients suffering from kidney problems such as moderate to severe renal impairment. Consult your doctor before taking the medicine.

    Liver

    Contraindicated

    SGLTR TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with liver problems such as moderate to severe liver impairment. Consult your doctor before taking the medicines.

    Allergy

    Contraindicated

    Do not take SGLTR TABLET if you are allergic to Remogliflozin, and/or any other ingredients of this medicine.

    Use In Pediatrics

    Contraindicated

    SGLTR TABLET is generally not recommended for use in children and adolescents (aged below 18 years). Consult your doctor before taking the medicine.

    Use In Geriatrics

    Contraindicated

    SGLTR TABLET is not recommended for use in elderly patients (aged 75 years/above). Consult your doctor before taking the medicine.

    Others

    Before taking SGLTR TABLET inform your doctor if you:

    • have type 1 diabetes
    • signs of dehydration such as nausea, vomiting, fever, loss of excessive fluid from the body
    • have tendency of urinary tract infections
    • have low blood pressure.

    Interactions

    A. Drug-Drug Interactions:

    Before taking SGLTR TABLET, inform your doctor, if you are taking any of the following medicine:

    • ketoconazole (used to manage fungal infections)
    • oral contraceptives (used to manage pregnancy) Ex. estradiol, norethindrone
    • medicines used to manage high blood pressure (Ex. ramipril, rosuvastatin, verapamil)
    • other blood glucose lowering drugs (Ex. sulphonylureas, metformin, insulin)
    • bupropion (used to manage depression)
    • medicines used to remove water from body (diuretics) Ex. spironolactone, furosemide

    Overdosage:

    If you or anyone else accidentally take too much of SGLTR TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdose are dizziness, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, and/or flatulence.

    Q: What is SGLTR TABLET and why is it prescribed?  

    A: SGLTR TABLET contains Remogliflozin which belongs to the group of medicines called Anti-diabetic agents. It is used to manage type 2 diabetes mellitus when diet and exercise are unable to control the blood sugar levels. SGLTR TABLET can also be used with other drugs like metformin, together with diet and exercise.

    Q: What if I forget to take a dose of SGLTR TABLET?

    A: If you forgot to take a dose of SGLTR TABLET then do not take the missed dose between meals. Wait until your next scheduled dose and meal and continue taking your medicine as per normal. Do not take a double dose of SGLTR TABLET to make up for a forgotten dose. Consult your doctor.

    Q: Can SGLTR TABLET be used in children and adolescents?

    A: No. SGLTR TABLET is not recommended to use in children and adolescents (below 18 years of age). Consult your doctor before administering the medicine to the child.

    Q: What other things I need to take care of while taking SGLTR TABLET?

    A: Since SGLTR TABLET works by acting on kidneys and excreting out excess blood sugar via urine, your urine test may test positive for presence of sugars in it. Also, your doctor may ask you for a regular kidney check-up while taking SGLTR TABLET. For all diabetic patients it is very important to take care of your feet regularly and strictly follow the advice regarding foot care given by your doctor in order to avoid gangrene. Consult with your doctor if you experience any unusual side effects.

    Q: Does SGLTR TABLET affects my ability to drive?

    A: SGLTR TABLET may cause hypoglycaemia (low levels of blood sugar). Do not drive or use machines if you experience symptoms of hypoglycaemia such as shaking, sweating, change in vision and feel dizzy after taking SGLTR TABLET.

    Q: Can SGLTR TABLET be taken by elder patients?

    A: SGLTR TABLET is not recommended for use in elderly patients above 75 years and should be used with caution in patients above the age of 65 years taking care of their kidney function. Consult your doctor before taking.

    Q: What is the best time to take SGLTR TABLET?

    A: Take SGLTR TABLET as directed by your doctor. It can be taken with or without meals. Try to take SGLTR TABLET at the same time everyday which will make you remember to take it. Keep following the diet and exercises your doctor has advised you to.

    Q: Is SGLTR TABLET safe for pregnant and breast-feeding women?

    A: SGLTR TABLET is not recommended for use in pregnant and breast-feeding women. Consult your doctor before taking it.
