How To Manage Side Effects

Diarrhea
Antibiotic-induced diarrhea can be managed effectively with a few key strategies. Firstly, it is important to maintain hydration by drinking plenty of fluids like water and electrolyte solutions to replace lost fluids and manage dehydration. Probiotics, available in supplement form or in foods like yogurt, can help restore the balance of beneficial bacteria in the gut disrupted by antibiotics, potentially alleviating diarrhea symptoms. Avoiding certain foods such as spicy, fatty, or high-fiber options can also help reduce irritation to the digestive system. Over-the-counter medications like loperamide (Imodium) may be used under the guidance of a healthcare professional to control diarrhea symptoms. However, it is important to complete the prescribed course of antibiotics unless directed otherwise by a healthcare provider. If diarrhea is severe, persistent, or accompanied by other concerning symptoms, seeking medical attention promptly is essential for proper evaluation and management.
