Respiratory tract infections (RTIs) are infections of parts of the body that are involved in breathing (such as the sinuses, throat, airways, or lungs).

It is most often mentioned simply as a sore throat. Tonsillitis is inflammation of the tonsils (the tonsils are two oval-shaped tissue pads at the back of the throat). Bronchitis is when the tubes that carry air to the lungs, called the bronchial tubes, get inflamed and swollen. Pneumonia is an infection and inflammation of the lungs' air sacs.
