    Introduction About RIFAXIMAX 100MG SUSPENSION

    RIFAXIMAX 100MG SUSPENSION is used in adults and in children (aged 2 years or above) to manage infectious diarrhea. It contains Rifaximin which belongs to the group of medicines called Antibiotics which works against the susceptible bacteria that causes infection by blocking the actions of certain enzymes in the bacteria that is required for its survival. As a result, it stops the growth and multiplication of the harmful bacteria in the gut and controls diarrhea.

    Take RIFAXIMAX 100MG SUSPENSION for the stipulated duration instructed by your doctor even if you feel better during the midway of the therapy. Inform your doctor if you can’t notice any improvement in your condition or if you feel worse after 3 days of therapy. It is not recommended for use in patients with bloody diarrhea or diarrhea accompanied by fever and in patients passing unformed (soft or liquid) stools for more than 8 times a day. It is also not suitable for use in patients having any stomach problems (such as constipation, vomiting, or stomach pain due to blockage in the gut).

    Inform your doctor before taking RIFAXIMAX 100MG SUSPENSION if you are pregnant, think you may be pregnant or breastfeeding women. This medicine may cause pink or reddish discoloration of urine. This usually disappears after discontinuation of the therapy. The most common side effects of taking headache, flatulence, stomach pain, constipation, urge to empty bowels and fever. Contact your doctor if any of these side effect worsens.

    RIFAXIMAX 100MG SUSPENSION is an intestinal antibiotic which works against the susceptible bacteria by blocking the actions of certain enzymes (bacterial DNA-dependent RNA polymerase) in the bacteria that is required for its survival. As a result, it stops the growth and multiplication of harmful bacteria in the gut and controls diarrhea.

    How to use RIFAXIMAX 100MG SUSPENSION

    • Take RIFAXIMAX 100MG SUSPENSION as advised by your physician
    • Shake well before use
    • Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of therapy for you depending upon your age, body weight and severity of the infection
    • Do not stop taking the medicine even if you feel better during the midway of the therapy, as it may worsen your condition

    Side Effects Of RIFAXIMAX 100MG SUSPENSION

    Common side effects of RIFAXIMAX 100MG SUSPENSION:

    • flatulence, stomach pain, constipation, diarrhea
    • urgency to empty bowels
    • involuntary and painful or ineffective straining
    • fever
    • loss of appetite
    • changes in taste
    • muscle pain, weakness or cramps, neck pain

    Stop taking RIFAXIMAX 100MG SUSPENSION and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

    • severe allergic reaction (such as skin rash, itching, shortness of breath, wheezing, rapid heartbeat, swelling of the mouth, face, ankles or any other part of the body, extreme tiredness, dizziness or feeling faint)
    • severe uncontrollable diarrhea
    • bloody urine or red discoloration of urine

    Use In Geriatrics

    Use with Caution

    RIFAXIMAX 100MG SUSPENSION should be used with caution in elderly patients (aged 65 years or above).

    Others

    It is not recommended for use if you have:

    • a blockage in your intestine (causing constipation, stomach pain, and vomiting)
    • fever
    • bloody stools
    • passed 8 or more unformed stools in the last 24 hours

    A. Drug-Drug Interaction:

    Before taking RIFAXIMAX 100MG SUSPENSION, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following:

    • immunosuppressants (Ex. cyclosporin)
    • anticoagulants (Ex. warfarin)
    • oral contraceptives (Ex. drospirenone, ethinyl estradiol)
    • activated charcoal  

    Overdosage:

    If you or anyone else accidentally took more of RIFAXIMAX 100MG SUSPENSION, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital.
