    Introduction About REVAS 0.5MG TABLET

    REVAS 0.5MG TABLET contains Losartan which belongs to the group of medicines called Angiotensin II receptor antagonists. REVAS 0.5MG TABLET is used to manage hypertension (high blood pressure) in adults and children & adolescents (aged 6-18 years).

    It is also used to protect kidney in hypertensive type 2 diabetic patients and is also indicated for use in patients with chronic heart failure when ACE (angiotensin-converting-enzyme inhibitors) medicines becomes ineffective to manage the disease. REVAS 0.5MG TABLET is also used to decrease the risk of stroke in patients with high blood pressure and thickening of left ventricle.

    REVAS 0.5MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients allergic to Losartan. It is also not recommended for use in patients with severely impaired liver function and kidney function.

    Before taking REVAS 0.5MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you have a history of angioedema (swelling of the face, lips, throat and/or tongue) and/or suffering from excessive vomiting/diarrhoea, primary hyperaldosteronism (a syndrome associated with increased secretion of aldosterone hormone), kidney problems (such as narrowing of blood vessels to one or both the kidneys and/or heart problems (such as heart failure, cardiac arrythmia and coronary heart disease).

    REVAS 0.5MG TABLET is not recommended for use in early pregnancy and must not be taken when a woman is more than 3 months pregnant since it may cause serious harm to the baby if used after 3-months of pregnancy. It is also not recommended for use in breastfeeding women since the medicine may pass through breastmilk.

    REVAS 0.5MG TABLET is not recommended for use in children under 6 years and should be used with caution in children and adolescent (aged 6-18 years). It should be used with caution in patients (aged above 75-years) after consulting the doctor.

    The most common side effects of taking REVAS 0.5MG TABLET are dizziness, general weakness, tiredness, low blood sugar (associated with signs such as fast heartbeat, shaking, sweating), changes in kidney function (associated with signs such as decreased urine output, oedema, shortness of breath) and/or anaemia. Consult your doctor if any of these symptoms worsens.

    Uses Of REVAS 0.5MG TABLET

    • Manage hypertension in adults and children & adolescents (aged 6 to 18 years)
    • Protects kidney in hypertensive type 2 diabetic patients
    • Manage chronic heart failure in patients (in whom ACE inhibitors becomes ineffective to manage the disease)
    • Reduces risk of stroke (in patients with high blood pressure and thickening of the left ventricle)

    How REVAS 0.5MG TABLET Works

    REVAS 0.5MG TABLET blocks the effects of Angiotensin II (substance produced in your body which causes narrowing of blood vessels), which leads to relaxation of blood vessels resulting in low blood pressure in affected individuals.

    How to use REVAS 0.5MG TABLET

    Take REVAS 0.5MG TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

    Side Effects Of REVAS 0.5MG TABLET

    Common

    • dizziness, general weakness, tiredness
    • low blood pressure orthostatic hypotension (low blood pressure that occurs when rising from a lying/sitting position)
    • signs of low blood sugar such as fast heartbeat, shaking, sweating and/or hunger
    • signs of changes in kidney function (including kidney failure) such as decreased urine output, oedema, shortness of breath
    • anaemia

    Uncommon

    • excessive sleepiness, headache, sleep disorders, shortness of breath
    • feeling of increased heart rate, severe chest pain
    • abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting
    • red itchy welts, itching, rash
    • localised swelling (oedema)
    • cough

    Rare

    • signs of hypersensitivity reactions (immune mediated reaction) such as skin rash, itching, fever and/or swelling
    • angioedema (swelling underneath the skin)
    • inflammation of blood vessels (including Henoch-Schonlein purpura)
    • numbness/tingling sensation
    • fainting
    • very rapid and irregular heartbeat
    • stroke
    • signs of inflammation of the liver such as jaundice, feel sick, abdominal pain

    Stop taking REVAS 0.5MG TABLET and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

    • signs of severe allergic reactions such as rash, itching, swelling of the face, lips, mouth/throat that may cause difficulty in swallowing or breathing

    How To Manage Side Effects

    Dizziness:

    Try to rest and get enough sleep. Try to avoid driving or operating any tools or machines while you feel dizzy. Limit consumption of alcohol, as it can aggravate dizziness. Consult and inform your doctor if the symptom worsens.

    Tiredness:

    Make sure you take rest and drink plenty of fluids. Avoid or limit the consumption of alcohol. Try to take REVAS 0.5MG TABLET at a time when you can sit down (or lie down) when the symptoms are at their worst. Avoid driving or using tools or machinery until you feel well.

    Nausea/Vomiting:

    Take REVAS 0.5MG TABLET with or just after a meal. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oil rich or spicy foods, sugary snacks and drinks. Avoid drinking too much liquid along with your meals, drink slowly in between meals. Talk with your doctor if the condition worsens.

    Diarrhea:

    Drink lots of fluids, such as water or fruit juice to keep yourself hydrated. Do not consume any medicine on your own without consulting your doctor.

    Tiredness:

    Drink plenty of fluid and eat balanced diet and frequent meals. Do regular minimal exercise and follow regular sleep schedule. If the symptom does not improve consult your doctor.

    Headache:

    If REVAS 0.5MG TABLET causes headache, then take rest and drink plenty of fluids. Try to avoid drinking alcohol. Ask your doctor to recommend a painkiller. Headaches should usually go away after the first week of taking REVAS 0.5MG TABLET. If it lasts more than a week or severe, inform your doctor.

    Constipation:

    Try to eat high-fiber foods such as vegetables, cereals, fresh fruit and drink plenty of water. Involve in regular exercise (going for a daily walk/run) and if this does not help, consult and inform your doctor for receiving alternate managements for constipation.

    Warning & Precautions

    Pregnancy

    REVAS 0.5MG TABLET is not recommended in early pregnancy and must not be taken when more than 3 months pregnant, as it may cause serious harm to the baby if used after 3months of pregnancy. Consult your doctor before taking REVAS 0.5MG TABLET.

    Breastfeeding

    REVAS 0.5MG TABLET is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women. Your doctor may choose another management especially if you want to breast-feed when your baby is a new-born/born prematurely. Consult your doctor before taking REVAS 0.5MG TABLET.

    Driving and Using Machines

    Do not drive or operate any machines if you feel dizzy or drowsy after taking REVAS 0.5MG TABLET.

    Kidney

    REVAS 0.5MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with impaired kidney function. It should be taken with caution in patients with narrowing of blood vessels to one or both the kidneys and in patients who had recently received kidney transplant. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

    Liver

    REVAS 0.5MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with severely impaired liver function. It should be used with caution in patients having impaired liver function. Consult your doctor before taking REVAS 0.5MG TABLET.

    Allergy

    Do not take REVAS 0.5MG TABLET if you are allergic to Losartan and/or any other ingredients of this medicine.

    Heart Disease

    REVAS 0.5MG TABLET should be taken with caution in patients having heart failure, problems in heart valve and heart muscle, cardiac arrythmia (irregular and fast heartbeat), coronary heart disease. Consult your doctor before taking REVAS 0.5MG TABLET.

    Others

    REVAS 0.5MG TABLET is not recommended for use if you have:

    • diabetes and managed with blood pressure lowering medicine containing aliskiren

    Before taking REVAS 0.5MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you:

    • have a history of angioedema (swelling of the face, lips, throat and/or tongue)
    • suffer from excessive vomiting/diarrhoea leading to extreme loss of fluid and/or salt in your body
    • suffer from primary hyperaldosteronism (a syndrome associated with increased secretion of aldosterone hormone)
    • suffer from cerebrovascular disease (caused by a reduced blood circulation to the brain)
    • salt-restricted diet

    Use in Pediatrics:

    REVAS 0.5MG TABLET is not recommended for use in children under 6 years of age and also in children suffering from kidney and/or liver problems. The medicine is recommended for used in children and adolescents (aged 6 to 18 years) after consulting the doctor.

    Use in Geriatrics:

    REVAS 0.5MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients (aged above 75 years). Consult your doctor before taking [GBNKRYWORD].

    Interactions

    A. Drug-Drug Interactions:

    Before taking REVAS 0.5MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:

    • diuretics (medicines that increase the production and excretion of urine) Ex. furosemide, bumetanide
    • potassium-sparing diuretics (used as an adjunct to manage hypertension, cirrhosis and congestive heart failure) Ex. amiloride, triamterene, spironolactone
    • angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors (medicines used to manage high blood pressure Ex. enalapril, lisinopril, ramipril
    • aliskiren (used to manage high blood pressure)
    • beta blockers (medicine used to manage abnormal heart rhythms) Ex. atenolol, propranolol, carvedilol
    • heparin (used to manage blood clots)
    • trimethoprim (used to manage urinary tract infections)
    • potassium supplements and potassium-containing salt substitutes
    • antidepressants (medicine used to manage depression) Ex. citalopram, fluoxetine, paroxetine
    • antipsychotic drugs (used to manage mental disorders) Ex. haloperidol, thioridazine
    • baclofen (medicine used for muscle spasm)
    • amifostine (medicine used in cancer chemotherapy)
    • non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (medicines used to manage pain and inflammation) such as cox-2 inhibitors (Ex. meloxicam, etodolac), aspirin, ibuprofen
    • lithium (used to manage some types of depression)

    Overdosage:

    If you or anyone else accidentally take too much of REVAS 0.5MG TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital.The most common symptoms overdose are low blood pressure, fast heartbeat and slow heartbeat.
