Introduction About REPACHEM 1 TABLET

REPACHEM 1 TABLET contains Repaglinide which belongs to the group of medicines called Antidiabetics. It is used to manage type 2 diabetes as an adjunct to diet and exercise.

Type 2 diabetes is a disease condition in which the pancreas does not make enough insulin to control sugar in the body or the body does not react well to insulin that is produced thus, leading to high blood glucose levels. The symptoms of high blood sugar level are feeling thirsty, increased urination, dry skin, and dry mouth.

Along with the management with REPACHEM 1 TABLET your doctor may advise you to make some lifestyle changes such as having a balanced diet, good sleep, exercising. Before starting the managements with REPACHEM 1 TABLET your doctor would want you to take some diagnostic tests.

REPACHEM 1 TABLET is not recommended in patients who have severe liver disease, diabetes type 1 and diabetic ketoacidosis. Consult your doctor for advice.

Patients having moderate liver diseases, kidney problems or are about to have a surgery should take REPACHEM 1 TABLET with caution.

REPACHEM 1 TABLET should not be taken by pregnant or breast-feeding women, children and adolescents below 18 years of age.

It is also not recommended for use in elderly patients above 75 years of age. The most common side-effects of REPACHEM 1 TABLET are hypoglycaemia, stomach pain and diarrhoea. Talk to your doctor if these worsen or doesn’t improve.

How REPACHEM 1 TABLET Works

REPACHEM 1 TABLET helps in reducing the blood sugar levels by acting on specific cells (beta cells) present in the pancreas and increases the release of insulin. Insulin is responsible for bringing the blood sugar levels down.

How to use REPACHEM 1 TABLET

Take REPACHEM 1 TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

Side Effects Of REPACHEM 1 TABLET

  • hypoglycaemia
  • stomach pain
  • diarrhoea

Rare

  • acute coronary syndrome

Stop taking REPACHEM 1 TABLET if you experience any of the following side effects and talk to your doctor immediately:

  • anaphylactic reaction characterised by swelling, difficulty in breathing, rapid heartbeat, feeling dizzy and sweating

How To Manage Side Effects

Diarrhea

Drink lots of fluids, such as water or fruit juice to keep yourself hydrated. Do not consume any medicine on your own without consulting your doctor.

Stomach Pain

Try to rest and relax. Eat and drink slow or try to have smaller and frequent meals. Keep a heat pad on your stomach. If the symptom does not improve, contact your doctor.

Avoid the consumption of alcohol as it may change the ability of REPACHEM 1 TABLET to lower down blood sugar. Consult your doctor for advice.

Kidney

REPACHEM 1 TABLET should be taken with caution in patients with kidney disease. Consult your doctor before taking.

Liver

Consult your doctor

REPACHEM 1 TABLET is generally not recommended in patients with severe liver disease. It should be used with caution in patients with moderate liver disease. Consult your doctor before taking the medicine.

Allergy

Contraindicated

Do not take REPACHEM 1 TABLET if you are allergic to Repaglinide or any ingredients of this medicine.

REPACHEM 1 TABLET is generally not recommended for use in children and adolescents (under 18 years of age). Consult your doctor before taking.

Use In Geriatrics

REPACHEM 1 TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients above 75 years of age. Consult your doctor before taking.

Others

REPACHEM 1 TABLET is not recommended for use if you:

  • have type 1 diabetes
  • have diabetic ketoacidosis

Before taking REPACHEM 1 TABLET inform your doctor if you:

  • have a major surgery
  • have or had an infection or severe illness

  • medicines used to manage depression (Ex. Monoamine oxidase inhibitors)
  • medicines used to manage high blood pressure or heart conditions, beta blockers (Ex. propranolol), ACE inhibitors (Ex. captopril, enalapril)
  • salicylates (Ex. aspirin)
  • medicines used to manage cancer (Ex. octreotide)
  • medicines used as painkiller, NSAIDS (Ex. paracetamol, naproxen)
  • medicines used for anaemia or to manage inflammation (Ex. steroids)
  • oral contraceptives (used as birth control pills)
  • diuretics or water pills (Ex. thiazides)
  • medicines used to manage breast cysts and endometriosis (Ex. danazol)
  • medicines used to manage low levels of thyroid hormones (Ex. levothyroxine)
  • medicines used to manage asthma, sympathomimetics (Ex. albuterol, terbutaline)
  • antibiotic medicines (Ex. clarithromycin, trimethoprim, rifampicin)
  • antifungal medicines (Ex. itraconazole, ketoconazole)
  • medicines used to manage high blood fats (Ex. gemfibrozil)
  • medicines used to suppress the immune system (Ex. ciclosporin)
  • medicines used to reduce chronic iron overload (Ex. deferasirox)
  • medicines used to manage epilepsy (Ex. phenytoin, carbamazepine, phenobarbital)
  • St. John’s wort (herbal medicine)
  • medicines used to manage blood clots (Ex. clopidogrel)

Overdosage:

If you or anyone else accidentally takes too much of REPACHEM 1 TABLET it can lead to hypoglycaemia. Inform your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdosage of REPACHEM 1 TABLET are cold sweat, cool pale skin, headache, fast heartbeat, nausea, feeling very hungry, temporary changes in vision, drowsiness, unusual tiredness and weakness, nervousness or tremor, feeling anxious and confused, and difficulty in concentrating.

A: If you forgot to take a dose of REPACHEM 1 TABLET then do not take the missed dose between meals. Wait until your next scheduled dose and meal and continue taking your medicine as per normal. Do not take a double dose of REPACHEM 1 TABLET to make up for a forgotten dose. Consult your doctor.
