    Introduction About RANTAC MPS SUSPENSION

    RANTAC MPS SUSPENSION is a combination of Magaldrate and Polydimethylsiloxane which belongs to the group of medicines called Antacids and Antiflatulence. It is used to manage gastritis (inflammation of lining of stomach) and dyspepsia (indigestion), gastric and duodenal ulcers (stomach or intestinal ulcers).

    RANTAC MPS SUSPENSION is also used to manage drug induced gastric irritation (injury to stomach mucosa due to adverse effects of drugs), gastro-oesophageal reflux (back flow of stomach acid into the food pipe), heart burn (burning pain in chest), stomach upset with nausea, pain, burning and flatulence.

    RANTAC MPS SUSPENSION is not recommended for use in patients with kidney disease, nausea, vomiting, severe abdominal pain, acute surgical abdomen impaction and/or an intestinal obstruction. Contact your doctor before taking it.

    RANTAC MPS SUSPENSION should be used in pregnancy only if clearly necessary. There is no proper information regarding the use of RANTAC MPS SUSPENSION in breastfeeding women. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.

    RANTAC MPS SUSPENSION is not recommended for use in children under 6 years of age unless directed by physician. RANTAC MPS SUSPENSION is not recommended for use in elderly patients with bone problems or with Alzheimer’s disease.     How RANTAC MPS SUSPENSION Works

    RANTAC MPS SUSPENSION is a combination of Magaldrate and Polydimethylsiloxane where Magaldrate is an Antacid works by rapidly neutralising stomach acid and reduces gastric and intestinal irritation, relieve symptoms of excessive stomach acidity in patients with indigestion, heartburn, gastroesophageal reflex disorder (GERD) or stomach or intestinal ulcers and Simethicone is an Anti-flatulence (anti-gas) medication acts in the stomach and intestines, enabling smaller gas bubbles to join together into bigger bubbles. In this way it helps in elimination of gas more easily by belching or passing flatus.

    How to use RANTAC MPS SUSPENSION

    Take RANTAC MPS SUSPENSION as advised by your physician. Shake well before use. Your physician will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

    Side Effects Of RANTAC MPS SUSPENSION

    Others

    RANTAC MPS SUSPENSION is not recommended for use if you have:

    • nausea, vomiting, severe abdominal pain, acute surgical abdomen impaction and/or an intestinal obstruction
    • hypophosphatemia (low phosphorus levels in blood)

    Before taking RANTAC MPS SUSPENSION, inform your doctor if you have:

    • recent massive upper Gastro intestinal bleeding

    Use in geriatrics:

    Interactions

    A. Drug-Drug interactions:

    Before taking RANTAC MPS SUSPENSION, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:

    • citrate salts (medicines used for constipation, heart burn and calcium supplements) Ex. magnesium citrate
    • oral tetracyclines, methenamine (medicines used for bacterial infections)
    • digoxin (used for heart failure)
    • oral iron preparations (medicines used to manage anaemia) Ex. ferrous fumarate
    • anticholinergic drugs Ex. hyoscyamine (used to manage stomach cramps)
    • barbiturates Ex. phenobarbital (used to manage fits)
    • quinine (used to manage malaria)
    • warfarin (used to manage blood clots)
    • vitamins (vitamin supplements)
    • sucralfate, H2- receptor antagonists (medicines used for stomach and intestinal ulcers)
    • sodium fluoride (used for dental preparations)
    • ketoconazole (used to manage fungal infections)
    • phenytoin (used to manage fits)
    • phenothiazines Ex. trifluoperazine (medicines used for schizophrenia)
    • propranolol (used for high blood pressure and heart failure)
    • isoniazid (used for tuberculosis)
    • prednisolone (used to manage inflammation)
    • naproxen (used to manage pain)
    • levothyroxine (used for thyroid disease)

    Overdosage:

    If you or anyone else accidentally take too much of RANTAC MPS SUSPENSION, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdosage are dizziness, fatigue, weakness, severe nausea and vomiting, loss of appetite, drowsiness, shallow breathing or loss of consciousness. Large dose can cause obstruction.

    Q: How often can I take RANTAC MPS SUSPENSION?

    A: Take RANTAC MPS SUSPENSION as advised by your physician. Take 10-20 ml three or four times a day, on empty stomach or as directed by a doctor. If symptoms occur at night, then it is usually administered before retiring. However, it is more important not to eat within 2 hours of sleep as eating often promotes reflux of acid into the esophagus.

    Q: How long can I use RANTAC MPS SUSPENSION?

    A: Take RANTAC MPS SUSPENSION as advised by your physician. RANTAC MPS SUSPENSION can be used indefinitely if they are only taken occasionally. Do not use maximum dose of this product for more than two weeks, except under advice and supervision of a physician. However, when it is necessary several times a day, contact your doctor and he/she will prescribe some other medicines called H2 blocker or PPIs for managing your condition.
