    Introduction About QUALINOR 400 TABLET

    QUALINOR 400 TABLET is used to manage urinary tract infections and gonococcal infections. It contains Norfloxacin which belongs to the group of medicines called Fluoroquinolone antibiotics that works by inhibiting the activity of the bacterial enzyme DNA-gyrase, which helps to manage the bacteria from multiplying and thus effectively manages the bacterial infection.

    Always take QUALINOR 400 TABLET exactly as directed by your doctor. Before taking this medicine, inform your doctor if you have or had seizures, tendon problems, liver, kidney or heart problems. Drink plenty of liquids during management with QUALINOR 400 TABLET (such as water or juice) to avoid potential side effects (such as crystalluria). QUALINOR 400 TABLET should be taken at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after taking products containing calcium such as dairy products (milk or liquid milk products such as yoghurt), including iron, zinc or multivitamin supplements.

    QUALINOR 400 TABLET is not recommended for use in pregnant and breast-feeding women. QUALINOR 400 TABLET is not recommended for use in children and adolescents (aged under 18 years). Also, it should be used with caution in elderly patients (aged 60 years and above) due to increased risk of pain and swelling in the joints and inflammation or rupture of tendons. The common side effects of taking QUALINOR 400 TABLET are headache, dizziness, light-headedness stomach pain and nausea. Consult your doctor if any of the side effect worsens or persist for a long period of time.

    • Pseudomembranous colitis (inflammation of the bowel causing fever, abdominal pain or diarrhoea
    • Inflammation of the Achilles (pain and swelling in the backside of your heel when you walk or run)

    Stop taking QUALINOR 400 TABLET and consult your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

    • Symptoms of angio-oedema (such as swollen face, tongue or throat, difficulty in swallowing, hives and difficulty breathing)
    • Severe skin reaction
    • Symptom of an inflammation of the liver (hepatitis) or liver failure (such as yellow discoloration of the eye whites or skin)
    • Pain or inflammation of a tendon (in your ankle, wrist, elbow, shoulder or knee)
    • Symptoms of nerve damage (neuropathy) such as pain, burning, tingling, numbness and/or weakness especially in the feet and legs or hands and arms
    • Pseudomembranous colitis (infection causing inflammation of the large intestine, severe and persistent diarrhoea)

    How To Manage Side Effects

    Diarrhea

    Drink lot of fluids such as water to keep yourself hydrated. Avoid eating high-fat or spicy foods. Consult your doctor if the symptom gets worse.

    Headache

    Drink ample amount of water and avoid skipping meals. Get adequate rest. Try to be relaxed and stress free. Apply pain relieving balm on your forehead if necessary. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.

    Nausea And Vomiting

    Stick to simple meals while taking QUALINOR 400 TABLET. Avoid eating oily rich, fried or spicy foods. Do not lie down or sleep immediately after eating. Inform your doctor if the symptom does not improve.

    Stomach Pain

    Try to rest and relax. Eat and drink slowly or try to have smaller and frequent meals. Keep a heating pad on your stomach. If the symptom does not improve, consult your doctor.

    Pregnancy

    QUALINOR 400 TABLET is not recommended for use in pregnant women and those who are planning to become pregnant. If you become pregnant while taking this medicine inform your doctor immediately. You must use effective contraceptive methods while you are taking this medicine. Consult your doctor before taking it.

    Breastfeeding

    Contraindicated

    QUALINOR 400 TABLET is not recommended for use in breast-feeding women. Consult your doctor before taking it.

    Driving and Using Machines

    Use with Caution

    Do not drive or handle machines while taking QUALINOR 400 TABLET, since it may cause dizziness or light-headedness.

    Alcohol

    Contraindicated

    Consumption of alcohol is not recommended during management with QUALINOR 400 TABLET.

    Kidney

    Use with Caution

    QUALINOR 400 TABLET should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease or problems. Consult your doctor before taking it.

    Liver

    Use with Caution

    QUALINOR 400 TABLET should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. Consult your doctor before taking it.

    Allergy

    Contraindicated

    Do not take QUALINOR 400 TABLET if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to Norfloxacin or other ingredients of this medicine.

    Heart Disease

    Use with Caution

    QUALINOR 400 TABLET should be used with caution in patients with an enlargement or bulge of a large blood vessel (aortic aneurysm or large vessel peripheral aneurysm), experienced a previous episode of aortic dissection (a tear in the aorta wall), very slow heart rhythm, weak heart (heart failure), history of heart attack, have a family history of prolonged QT interval, aortic aneurysm or aortic dissection or predisposing conditions (such as connective tissue disorders such as Marfan syndrome, vascular disorders such as Takayasu arteritis, high blood pressure or known atherosclerosis). Consult your doctor before taking it.

    Use In Pediatrics

    Contraindicated

    QUALINOR 400 TABLET is not recommended for use in children and adolescents (aged under 18 years). Consult your child’s doctor for advice.

    Use In Geriatrics

    QUALINOR 400 TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients (aged 60 years and above) due to increased risk of pain and swelling in the joints and inflammation or rupture of tendons. Consult your doctor before taking it.  

    Others

    QUALINOR 400 TABLET is not recommended for use if you:

    • Have a history of inflamed (tendonitis) or ruptured tendons related to management with fluoroquinolones

    Before taking QUALINOR 400 TABLET, inform your doctor if you:

    • Have a surgical history of organ transplant recently
    • Epilepsy or convulsions (fits)
    • Mental disorders such as hallucination or confusion
    • Disorders of the central nervous system such as reduced blood flow to the brain or a stroke
    • Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase enzyme deficiency
    • Myasthenia gravis

    • Antidepressants (Ex. amitriptyline)
    • Antipsychotics drugs (Ex. risperidone, ziprasidone)
    • Oral contraceptives (Ex. ethinylestradiol and norethindrone)
    • Multivitamins
    • Antacids (Ex. aluminum hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide and sucralfate)
    • CNS Stimulants drugs (Ex. caffeine)

    B. Drug-Food interaction:

    QUALINOR 400 TABLET should be taken at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after taking products containing calcium such as dairy products (milk or liquid milk products such as yoghurt). Consult your doctor before taking QUALINOR 400 TABLET.  

    Overdosage:

    If you or anyone else accidentally takes too much of QUALINOR 400 TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital.
