Introduction About PYRESTAT MR TABLET
PYRESTAT MR TABLET contains Nimesulide, which belongs to the group of medicines called Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). It is used to manage inflammatory conditions, including joint disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis, posttraumatic and postoperative painful conditions, and fever. PYRESTAT MR TABLET is also used to manage acute pain in orthopaedic, ENT, dental, and mild to moderate pain of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.
Your doctor might advise regular liver function tests during management with PYRESTAT MR TABLET.
PYRESTAT MR TABLET is usually advised as a second line of management for a short duration of time in order to relieve symptoms.
PYRESTAT MR TABLET is not recommended in cases of active stomach or duodenal ulcers, alcoholism, drug addiction, cerebrovascular bleeding or bleeding disorders, severe clotting disorders, severe heart, kidney, or liver impairment, fever and/or flu-like symptoms, a history of recurrent ulceration, or gastrointestinal bleeding.
PYRESTAT MR TABLET is not recommended during the third trimester of pregnancy and in breast-feeding women.
PYRESTAT MR TABLET is not given to children and adolescents below 12 years of age. It should be used with caution in elderly patients.
The most common side effects of taking PYRESTAT MR TABLET are vomiting, diarrhea or nausea, and changes in the level of liver enzymes. Consult your doctor if the above side effects do not improve.
Uses Of PYRESTAT MR TABLET
It is used to manage inflammatory conditions, including joint disorders such as:
- rheumatoid arthritis
- post traumatic
- postoperative painful condition and
- fever
How PYRESTAT MR TABLET Works
PYRESTAT MR TABLET works by blocking the enzyme involved in the production of certain chemical substances during inflammation, which are responsible for causing pain, redness, swelling, and fever in the body. Hence decreasing the fever, pain, and swelling caused after injuries.
How to use PYRESTAT MR TABLET
Take PYRESTAT MR TABLET as advised by your physician. It can be taken with or without meals.
For Tablet, Capsule: Swallow PYRESTAT MR TABLET with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine.
For Dispersible Tablet: Disperse PYRESTAT MR TABLET in the specified quantity of water as mentioned in the label. Consume the mixture immediately after reconstitution.
Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of therapy for you depending upon your age, body weight, and disease condition. Continue to take PYRESTAT MR TABLET for the stipulated duration prescribed by your doctor to achieve better results.
Side Effects Of PYRESTAT MR TABLET

- increased heart rate, fluctuation in blood pressure, and hot flushes
- Inflamed skin and redness
- tiredness, decreased muscle strength
- blood in urine and difficulty in urinating
- pain or burning sensation while urinating
Stop taking PYRESTAT MR TABLET and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
- signs of allergic reactions like rashes, mucosal lesions (exfoliative dermatitis, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, and toxic epidermal necrolysis)
- signs of liver injury (anorexia, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, fatigue, dark urine, or abnormal liver function tests)
- gastrointestinal bleeding or ulceration/perforation, stools with blood
- signs of fever like chills, shivering, feeling of uneasiness
How To Manage Side Effects
Diarrhea
Drink lots of fluids, like water and fruit juice, to keep yourself hydrated. Do not consume any medicine on your own without consulting your doctor. If the diarrhea does not improve, contact your doctor.
Nausea And Vomiting
Take this medicine just after meals. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oil-rich or spicy foods. If the nausea and vomiting do not improve, contact your doctor.

Pregnancy
Monitoring requiredPYRESTAT MR TABLET is not recommended for use in the third trimester of pregnancy and women planning to have a baby because it may cause many malformations in neonates. If needed, the dose will be adjusted by your doctor. Consult your doctor before taking.
Breastfeeding
ContraindicatedPYRESTAT MR TABLET is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women. Consult your doctor before taking it.
Driving and Using Machines
Use with CautionDo not drive or operate machinery if you feel dizzy, have a head spinning sensation, or have excessive sleepiness after taking PYRESTAT MR TABLET.
Alcohol
ContraindicatedConsumption of alcohol is not recommended while taking PYRESTAT MR TABLET.
Kidney
ContraindicatedPYRESTAT MR TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with severe impairment in kidney function. Consult your doctor before taking it.
Liver
ContraindicatedPYRESTAT MR TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with severe impaired liver function and liver failure. Consult your doctor before taking it.
Allergy
ContraindicatedDo not take PYRESTAT MR TABLET if you are allergic to Nimesulide or any history of hypersensitivity reactions (Ex. bronchospasm, rhinitis, urticarial, nasal polyps) or any ingredients of this medicine.
Heart Disease
Consult your doctorPYRESTAT MR TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with severe heart failure. It should be used with caution in patients with impaired heart function, uncontrolled hypertension, established ischaemic heart disease, peripheral arterial disease, and/or cerebrovascular disease. Consult your doctor before taking it.
Use In Pediatrics
ContraindicatedPYRESTAT MR TABLET is not recommended for children and adolescents below 12 years of age. Consult your doctor before taking it.
Use In Geriatrics
Use with CautionPYRESTAT MR TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients as they are more susceptible to the adverse effects. Consult your doctor before taking it.
Others
PYRESTAT MR TABLET is not recommended for use if you:
- have drug addiction problems
- have cerebrovascular bleeding or other active bleeding or bleeding disorders
- have severe clotting disorders
- have an active or history of gastric or duodenal ulcers or gastrointestinal bleeding
- have signs of flu or fever
Before taking PYRESTAT MR TABLET, inform your doctor if you:
- have peptic ulcer, ulcerative colitis, or Crohn's disease
Interactions
A. Drug-Drug interactions:
Before taking PYRESTAT MR TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:
- other medicine used to reduce inflammation (Ex. methylprednisolone)
- medicine used to manage blood clots (Ex. warfarin)
- medicine used in management of arthritis (Ex. methotrexate)
- medicines used in the management of mental disorders (Ex. lithium)
- diuretics (Ex. furosemide) to rid the body of salt and water
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally takes too much PYRESTAT MR TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdose are drowsiness, sluggishness, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal discomfort.
