    Introduction About PURON 50MG INJECTION

    PURON 50MG INJECTION contains Dexketoprofen which belongs to the group of medicines called Painkillers. It is used to manage acute moderate to severe pain, when taking tablets is not appropriate, such as post-operative pain, renal colic (severe kidney pain) and low back pain.

    PURON 50MG INJECTION is not recommended in patients who have asthma, serious heart failure, serious liver or kidney disease, peptic ulcer/stomach or bowel bleeding, perforation, indigestion, heartburn, bowel disease with chronic inflammation (Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis). Consult your doctor before receiving it.

    PURON 50MG INJECTION should be used with caution in patients suffering from high blood pressure, stroke, diabetes, high cholesterol levels. Consult your doctor before receiving this medicine.

    PURON 50MG INJECTION is not recommended for use in pregnant women (especially during third trimester) and in breast feeding women. Consult your doctor before receiving it.

    PURON 50MG INJECTION is not recommended for use in children and adolescents below 18 years of age. It should be used with caution in elderly patients. Consult your doctor before receiving this medicine.

    The most common side effects of receiving PURON 50MG INJECTION are nausea, vomiting, injection site pain, injection site reactions such as inflammation, bruising or bleeding. Contact your physician if any of the symptoms worsen.

    How PURON 50MG INJECTION Works

    PURON 50MG INJECTION works by blocking the effect of a natural chemicals called prostaglandins which are responsible for pain and inflammation. Thus, helps to manage pain and inflammation effectively.

    How to use PURON 50MG INJECTION

    PURON 50MG INJECTION will be given to you only by a doctor or a nurse as an injection into the muscle (intramuscular injection) or into the vein (intravenous injection). Your doctor will decide the correct dosage and duration for you depending on your age, body weight and disease condition.

    Side Effects Of PURON 50MG INJECTION

    Common

    • nausea, vomiting
    • injection site pain, injection site reactions such as inflammation, bruising or bleeding

    Uncommon

    • vomiting blood
    • low blood pressure
    • fever
    • blurred vision
    • dizziness
    • sleepiness
    • sleep disturbances
    • headache
    • abdominal pain, constipation, digestive problems, diarrhoea, dry mouth
    • flushing
    • rash, dermatitis (skin inflammation), itching
    • increased sweating
    • tiredness
    • pain
    • feeling cold

    Rare

    • peptic ulcer, peptic ulcer haemorrhage or peptic ulcer perforation
    • high blood pressure
    • fainting
    • too slow breathing
    • inflammation of a superficial vein due to a blood clot (superficial thrombophlebitis)
    • isolated heart skip (extrasystole), fast heartbeat
    • peripheral oedema (Ex. swollen ankles)
    • laryngeal oedema (swelling of throat)
    • loss of appetite
    • abnormal sensation
    • feeling feverish and shivering
    • ringing in the ears (tinnitus)
    • itchy rash
    • jaundice
    • acne
    • back pain
    • kidney pain
    • passing urine frequently
    • menstrual disorders
    • prostate problems
    • muscle and joint stiffness, muscle cramp
    • liver cell injury (hepatitis)
    • acute renal failure

    Stop receiving PURON 50MG INJECTION and contact your physician immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

    • stomach/bowel problems (Ex. stomach pain, heartburn or bleeding)
    • a skin rash or any lesion inside the mouth or on the genitals or any sign of an allergy
    • signs of infections such as fever or pain

    How To Manage Side Effects

    Dizziness:

    Try to rest and relax. Get enough sleep. Avoid driving or operating any machines while you are feeling dizzy. Contact your doctor if your dizziness did not improve.

    Dry mouth:

    Dry mouth can be managed by chewing sugar-free gum or sucking on sugar-free hard candies to stimulate the flow of saliva. Sip water at regular intervals of time. Do not use mouthwashes that contain alcohol because they can be drying. Consult your doctor if the dry mouth gets worse.

    Headache:

    Rest and relax. Drink plenty of fluids such as water or ORS (Oral Rehydrating Solution) and apply a pain-relieving balm on the head if necessary. Contact your doctor if your headache did not improve.

    Nausea and vomiting:

    Receive PURON 50MG INJECTION, with or just after a meal. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oily or spicy food. Contact your doctor if your nausea and vomiting did not improve.

    Constipation:

    Take fibre-rich foods in your diet such as fresh fruits, vegetables and whole grain cereals and drink plenty of fluids. Exercise more regularly and stay active. Contact your doctor if constipation persists.

    Stomach pain:

    Try to have smaller meals but take them frequently. Keep a heating pad on your stomach. Do not self-manage and contact your doctor if the stomach pain did not improve.

    Skin rash:

    Avoid hot baths because hot water can irritate your skin further. Do not scratch the affected area. Use sunscreen and wear protective clothing while going outside. Use unscented moisturizers to soothe and hydrate the affected area. Contact your doctor if your rashes worsen.

    Flatulence:

    Eat smaller and more frequent meals. Eat and drink slowly and exercise regularly. If the flatulence does not improve, contact your doctor.

    Diarrhoea:

    Drink lots of fluids, such as water or fruit juices to keep yourself hydrated. Do not take any medicine on your own to manage diarrhoea. Contact your doctor if your diarrhoea did not improve.

    Loss of appetite:

    Eat when you are hungry. Eat smaller meals more often than usual. Snack only when you're hungry. Eat a nutritious snack which is rich in calories and protein, such as dried fruit and nuts. Contact your doctor if your appetite did not improve.

    Warning & Precautions

    Pregnancy

    PURON 50MG INJECTION is not recommended for use in pregnant women (especially during the third trimester) or those planning to become pregnant. It should be used with caution in pregnant women (especially during first or second trimester). Consult your doctor before receiving PURON 50MG INJECTION.

    Breastfeeding

    PURON 50MG INJECTION is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women. Consult your doctor before receiving PURON 50MG INJECTION.

    Driving and Using Machines

    Do not drive or operate any machines if you feel dizziness or drowsiness after receiving PURON 50MG INJECTION.

    Kidney

    PURON 50MG INJECTION is not recommended for use in patients with severe kidney problems. It should be used with caution in patients suffering from kidney problems. Consult your doctor before receiving PURON 50MG INJECTION.

    Liver

    PURON 50MG INJECTION is not recommended for use in patients with severe liver problems. It should be used with caution in patients suffering from liver problems. Consult your doctor before receiving PURON 50MG INJECTION.

    Allergy

    Do not receive this medicine if you are allergic to Dexketoprofen, Acetylsalicylic acid or to other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medicines or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.

    Lungs

    PURON 50MG INJECTION is not recommended in patients who have asthma or have suffered attacks of asthma, acute allergic rhinitis (a short period of the inflamed lining of the nose), nasal polyps (lumps within the nose due to allergy), urticaria (skin rash), angioedema (swollen face, eyes, lips or tongue or respiratory distress) or wheezing in the chest after taking acetylsalicylic acid or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medicines. Consult your doctor before receiving PURON 50MG INJECTION.

    Heart Disease

    PURON 50MG INJECTION is not recommended for use in patients with serious heart failure. It should be used with caution in patients suffering from heart problems, high blood pressure. Consult your doctor before receiving PURON 50MG INJECTION.

    Others

    PURON 50MG INJECTION is not recommended for use if you:

    • suffered from photoallergic or phototoxic reactions (a particular form of reddening and/or blistering of the skin exposed to sunlight)
    • have or had peptic ulcer/stomach or bowel bleeding, perforation (including due to previous use of painkillers)
    • have chronic digestive problems (Ex. indigestion, heartburn)
    • have bowel disease with chronic inflammation (Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis)
    • have bleeding disorder or a blood clotting disorder
    • are severely dehydrated (have lost a lot of body fluids) due to vomiting, diarrhoea or insufficient intake of fluids
    • have chicken pox

    Before receiving PURON 50MG INJECTION, inform your doctor if you:

    • have or had stroke
    • have diabetes
    • have high cholesterol levels
    • are a smoker
    • suffer from allergy or if you have had allergy problems in the past
    • suffer from very poor hydration and reduced blood volume due to an excessive loss of fluids (Ex. from excessive urination, diarrhoea or vomiting)
    • suffer from a disorder in the formation of blood and blood cells
    • have systemic lupus erythematosus or mixed connective tissue disease (immune system disorders that affect connective tissue)
    • have an infection

    Use in pediatrics:

    PURON 50MG INJECTION is not recommended for use in children and adolescents below 18 years of age as safety and efficacy have not been established. Consult your doctor before receiving PURON 50MG INJECTION.

    Use in geriatrics:

    PURON 50MG INJECTION should be used with caution in elderly patients. Consult your doctor before receiving PURON 50MG INJECTION.

    Interactions

    A. Drug - Drug interactions:

    Before receiving PURON 50MG INJECTION inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:

    • selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (used to manage depression) Ex. citalopram, escitalopram
    • medicines used to manage or manage blood clots Ex. aspirin, warfarin, heparin, streptokinase, alteplase
    • corticosteroids (used to manage inflammatory conditions) Ex. dexamethasone, betamethasone
    • lithium (used to manage certain mood disorders)
    • methotrexate (used to manage cancer or to supress immune system)
    • hydantoins and phenytoin (used for epilepsy)
    • sulfamethoxazole, amikacin, ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin (used for bacterial infections)
    • captopril, enalapril, candesartan, hydrochlorothiazide, metoprolol, digoxin (used for high blood pressure and heart problems)
    • pentoxifylline and oxpentifylline (used to manage chronic venous ulcers)
    • zidovudine, tenofovir (used to manage HIV infections)
    • sulfonylureas (used to manage diabetes) Ex. chlorpropamide and glibenclamide
    • cyclosporin or tacrolimus (used to manage immune system diseases and in organ transplant)
    • probenecid (used to manage gout)
    • mifepristone (used to terminate a pregnancy)
    • deferasirox (used to manage iron overload)
    • pemetrexed (used to manage cancer)
    • ketoprofen (used to manage pain)
    • fenofibrate (used to lower cholesterol levels)

    Overdosage:

    PURON 50MG INJECTION will be administered to you only by a doctor or a nurse in a hospital, so it is unlikely to receive an overdose. However, consult your doctor or nurse immediately if you experience any unusual symptoms.
