    PULMOVAX 23 VACCINE contains Pneumococcal Polysaccharide Serotypes (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6B, 7F, 8, 9N, 9V, 10A, 11A, 12F, 14, 15B, 17F, 18C, 19F, 19A, 20, 22F, 23F, and 33F). It is used to manage the diseases caused by specific streptococcus pneumoniae serotypes in adults (above 50 years) and other individuals (above 2 years) who are at increased risk for pneumococcal disease.

    Pneumococcal disease is an infection caused by bacteria, namely Streptococcus pneumoniae or pneumococcus, in the ear, sinuses, lungs, membranes covering the brain, or bloodstream. It is characterised by symptoms such as fever, cough, shortness of breath, chest pain, stiff neck, confusion, headache, chills, ear pain, sleeplessness, and irritability.

    PULMOVAX 23 VACCINE is not recommended for use if you are allergic to pneumococcal polysaccharide serotypes. It should be used with caution in patients with lung diseases (such as chronic pulmonary disease or compromised lung function), chronic liver disease, chronic kidney diseases, heart diseases (coronary vascular disease, congestive heart failure), or compromised cardiovascular (heart and vessel) function.

    PULMOVAX 23 VACCINE should be used with caution in pregnant and breastfeeding women. It is not recommended for use in children (below 2 years). PULMOVAX 23 VACCINE should be used with caution in elderly patients (aged above 65 years). Consult your doctor before receiving it.

    The common side effects associated with the use of PULMOVAX 23 VACCINE are headache, weakness, muscle pain, discoloration of the skin due to bleeding beneath the skin, itching, chills, and fever. Contact your doctor or a nearby hospital if any of the conditions worsens or persists.

    How to use PULMOVAX 23 VACCINE

    PULMOVAX 23 VACCINE will be given to you only by a doctor or a nurse under the skin as a subcutaneous injection or into a muscle as an intramuscular injection in the deltoid muscle or lateral mid-thigh. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

    Side Effects Of PULMOVAX 23 VACCINE

    Common

    • reaction at the site of injection such as pain, soreness, tenderness, swelling, induration, or redness
    • headache
    • weakness
    • muscle pain
    • discolouration of the skin due to bleeding beneath the skin
    • itching
    • chills
    • fever
    • diarrhoea
    • indigestion

    • neck pain
    • upper respiratory infection such as common cold, sore throat

    • angina pectoris (chest pain which is a symptom of underlying heart disease)
    • heart failure (sudden loss of heart function)
    • chest pain
    • ulcerative colitis (inflammation of the intestine with ulcers)
    • depression
    • headache
    • tremors
    • stiffness
    • sweating
    • cerebrovascular accident (any event caused by blood clots in the circulatory system)
    • lumbar radiculopathy (pain in lower back and hip)
    • pancreatitis (inflammation of pancreatic tissue)
    • myocardial infarction (impaired blood supply to heart)

    How To Manage Side Effects

    Diarrhea

    Drink lots of fluids, such as water to keep yourself hydrated. Try to avoid taking any medicine on your own to manage diarrhoea and consult your doctor if the symptom gets worse.

    Headache

    Take rest and plenty of water. Avoid taking alcohol and skipping meals. Do not strain your eyes by watching the screen for a long time. Consult your doctor if the condition persists for a long or gets worsened.

    Indigestion

    Try to eat more high-fibre foods such as fresh fruit, vegetables, cereals, and drink plenty of water. Try doing exercise regularly (going for a daily walk or run). If this does not help, inform your doctor for receiving alternate managements for constipation.

    Nausea And Vomiting

    Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating rich or spicy food. Get a lot of rest. Avoid drinking coffee, alcohol, or smoking. Consult your doctor if the symptom gets worse.
