    Introduction About PRODEP 20MG CAPSULE

    PRODEP 20MG CAPSULE contains Fluoxetine which belongs to the group of medicines called Anti-depressants. It is used to manage major depressive episodes, obsessive-compulsive disorder (mental disorder) and bulimia nervosa (eating disorder).

    Major depressive disorder is a mental health disorder characterized by a persistent and intense feeling of sadness for an extended duration of time. It mainly impacts mood, behavior and other physical functions, such as sleep and appetite.

    Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a mental disorder that is associated with repetitive thoughts (obsessions) and the urge to do things over and again (compulsions).

    Bulimia nervosa is a serious eating disorder that is characterized by binge eating followed by methods to avoid being overweight such as vomiting, severe exercise or fasting.

    Before taking PRODEP 20MG CAPSULE, inform your doctor if you have or ever had epilepsy or fits, history of mania, diabetes, liver problems, heart problems and glaucoma.

    PRODEP 20MG CAPSULE is not recommended for use in pregnancy and breastfeeding women as it may harm the unborn baby. Consult your doctor for advice.

    The most common side effects of taking PRODEP 20MG CAPSULE are insomnia, headache, diarrhea, feeling sick (nausea) and fatigue. Contact your physician if any of the above side effects worsen.

    How PRODEP 20MG CAPSULE Works

    PRODEP 20MG CAPSULE works by increasing the levels of serotonin, a chemical messenger in the brain. This improves mood and physical symptoms of depression and relieves symptoms of panic and obsessive disorders.

    How to use PRODEP 20MG CAPSULE

    Take PRODEP 20MG CAPSULE as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine.

    Your physician will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition. Do not stop taking PRODEP 20MG CAPSULE without consulting your doctor.

    Side Effects Of PRODEP 20MG CAPSULE

    Common

    • insomnia
    • headache
    • diarrhea

    • not feeling hungry, weight loss
    • nervousness, anxiety
    • poor concentration

    Rare

    • low salt levels in the blood
    • reduced platelets in the blood, decrease in white blood cells
    • untypical wild behaviour
    • hallucinations
    • agitation
    • panic attacks
    • confusion
    • stuttering
    • aggression
    • fits
    • vasculitis (inflammation of a blood vessel)
    • rapid swelling of the tissues around the neck, mouth, face or throat
    • pain in the tube that takes food or water to the stomach
    • hepatitis (inflammation of the liver)
    • lung problems
    • sensitivity to sunlight
    • muscle pain
    • producing breast milk

    Stop taking PRODEP 20MG CAPSULE and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

    • self-harming thoughts
    • rash or allergic reaction such as itching, swelling of face, neck, lips, tongue, mouth or throat or wheezing/shortness of breath
    • restlessness and cannot sit or stand still, may have akathisia
    • a combination of symptoms (serotonin syndrome) including unexplained fever with faster breathing or heart rate, sweating, muscle stiffness or tremor, confusion, extreme agitation or sleepiness
    • drowsiness, weakness or confusion (mostly in elderly people)
    • prolonged and painful erection
    • irritability and extreme agitation
    • fast or irregular heart rate, collapsing, fainting or dizziness upon standing which may indicate abnormal functioning of the heart rate
    • widespread rash, circular, irregular red patches on the hands and arms (Erythema Multiforme), severe skin rash with fever, redness, blisters or ulcers (Stevens-Johnson Syndrome), severe rash involving reddening, peeling and swelling of the skin resembling severe burns (Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis)
    • bleeding from stomach or intestines Ex. black tarry stools, unexplained bruise or bleeding, and fever, sore throat, tiredness due to decreased blood cells
    • yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice) or tiredness, pain in abdomen, joints or muscles

    How To Manage Side Effects

    Nausea or Vomiting:

    Take this medicine with or just after meals. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oil-rich or spicy foods. Contact your doctor if nausea and vomiting do not improve.

    Diarrhea:

    Drink lots of fluids, such as water or fruit juices to keep you hydrated. Do not take any medicine on your own for managing diarrhea. Contact your doctor if your if it persists for a long time.

    Headache:

    Rest and relax. Drink plenty of fluids such as water and electrolytes. Apply a pain-relieving balm on the head if necessary. Do not consume alcohol. Contact your doctor if your headache did not improve.

    Dizziness or Drowsiness:

    Try to rest and relax. Get enough sleep. Avoid driving or operate any machines while you are feeling dizzy. Do not drink alcohol, as it can aggravate your dizziness. Contact your doctor if your dizziness or drowsiness did not improve.

    Warning & Precautions

    Pregnancy

    PRODEP 20MG CAPSULE is not recommended for use especially in the last 3 months of pregnancy as it harms the unborn baby. It should be used with caution during late pregnancy or just before giving birth. Consult your doctor before taking PRODEP 20MG CAPSULE.

    Breastfeeding

    PRODEP 20MG CAPSULE will be excreted through breast milk., hence it should be used with caution if it is clearly necessary. Your doctor will lower the dose accordingly. Consult your doctor before taking PRODEP 20MG CAPSULE.

    Driving and Using Machines

    Do not drive or operate any machines as it may affect your judgement or coordination after taking PRODEP 20MG CAPSULE.

    Alcohol

    Avoid consumption of alcohol while taking PRODEP 20MG CAPSULE. Consult your doctor before taking.

    Kidney

    PRODEP 20MG CAPSULE should be used with caution in patients with kidney problems. Consult your doctor before taking PRODEP 20MG CAPSULE.

    Liver

    PRODEP 20MG CAPSULE should be used with caution in patients with liver problems. Consult your doctor before taking PRODEP 20MG CAPSULE.

    Allergy

    Do not take PRODEP 20MG CAPSULE if you are allergic to Fluoxetine or to any other ingredients of this medicine.

    Lungs

    PRODEP 20MG CAPSULE should be used with caution in patients with lung problems. Consult your doctor before taking PRODEP 20MG CAPSULE.

    Heart Disease

    PRODEP 20MG CAPSULE should be used with caution in patients with heart problems or low heart rate. Consult your doctor before taking PRODEP 20MG CAPSULE.

    Others

    Before taking PRODEP 20MG CAPSULE, inform your doctor if you:

    • have or ever had epilepsy or fits
    • have history of mania
    • have diabetes
    • have glaucoma
    • have ongoing ECT (electroconvulsive therapy)
    • have a history of bleeding disorder

    Use in pediatrics:

    Your doctor will give the right dose depends on your child’s age, body weight and disease condition. Consult your doctor for advice before taking.

     Use in geriatrics:

    PRODEP 20MG CAPSULE should be used with caution in elderly patients (above 70 years of age). Consult your doctor before taking PRODEP 20MG CAPSULE.

    Interactions

    A. Drug-Drug interactions:

    Before taking PRODEP 20MG CAPSULE, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:

    • medicine used to manage depression (Ex. tranylcypromine, moclobemide iproniazid, nialamide, isocarboxazid, toloxatone)
    • linezolid (used for bacterial infections)
    • methylthioninium chloride (used to manage methaemoglobinaemia)
    • selegiline (used for parkinson's disease)
    • lithium (used to mania)
    • L- tryptophan (used to manage premenstrual disorders)
    • medicines used to manage epilepsy (Ex. phenytoin, carbamazepine, oxcarbazepine)
    • medicine used as a pain killer (Ex. tramadol)
    • medicine used to manage migraine (Ex. sumatriptan)
    • medicine used to manage heart’s rhythm (Ex. Class IA and III antiarrhythmics like quinidine and amiodarone)
    • medicine used as antipsychotics (Ex. phenothiazine derivatives like fluphenazine, pimozide, haloperidol)
    • medicine used as antimicrobial agents (Ex. sparfloxacin, moxifloxacin, erythromycin IV, pentamidine)
    • medicine used to manage malaria (Ex. halofantrine, mefloquine, chloroquine)
    • medicines used to manage allergies (astemizole, mizolastine, mequitazine, cyproheptadine)
    • medicine used for heart problems (Ex. flecainide or encainide)
    • nebivolol (medicines used for high blood pressure)
    • atomoxetine (medicines used to manage attention deficit hyperactivity disorder)
    • chlorothiazide (used to remove sodium and water from the body)
    • desmopressin (used to reduce the amount of urine produced by the kidneys)
    • medicine used for depression (Ex. imipramine, desipramine, amitriptyline and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors Ex. citalopram, escitalopram) and or St John’s wort (herbal medicine)
    • medicine used to manage breast cancer (Ex. tamoxifen)
    • medicine used to thin the blood (Ex. warfarin, aspirin)
    • ibuprofen, diclofenac, tramadol (medicines used to manage pain)
    • medicines used to manage certain mental disorders (Ex. clozapine)
    • metoprolol (medicines used for heart failure)
    • buprenorphine/naloxone (medicines used for opioid dependence)
    • bupropion (medicines helps to stop smoking)

    Overdosage:

    If you or anyone else accidentally took too much of PRODEP 20MG CAPSULE, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdosage are nausea, vomiting, seizures, heart problems (ranging from irregular heartbeat with no symptoms, heart attack (cardiac arrest), lungs not working properly (pulmonary dysfunction), central nervous system (CNS) alterations (excitation and an altered level of consciousness or loss of consciousness) or coma.
