    Introduction About PRAZOPRESS XL 2.5MG TABLET

    PRAZOPRESS XL 2.5MG TABLET contains Prazosin which belongs to the group of medicines called Alpha-Blockers. It is mainly used to manage hypertension (condition in which force of the blood is high against the arterial walls), heart failure (a condition in which heart doesn’t pump blood well) and Raynaud’s disease (condition in which some areas of the body may feel numb and cold such as fingers and toes). PRAZOPRESS XL 2.5MG TABLET is also used to manage prostatic hyperplasia in men. Prostatic hyperplasia can be defined as an age-related mild prostate gland enlargement which is categorized by urinary difficulties or increased frequency of urination during night-time.

    Prazosin works by reducing the blood pressure where it helps relax the walls of blood vessels and reduce the resistance to blood flow so that blood can pass smoothly without any obstruction. It reduces the chances of heart failure by acting on the main blood vessel, thus allowing the heart to pump blood effectively. It manages Raynaud’s disease (fingers become white and painful when cold) by relaxing the blood vessels so that blood can reach the fingers and promotes circulation thereby manages fingers being cold and stiff. PRAZOPRESS XL 2.5MG TABLET also manages prostatic hyperplasia (mild enlargement of prostate gland) by relaxing the muscles of bladder and prostate gland and thus helps to pass urine easily.

    Before taking PRAZOPRESS XL 2.5MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you have kidney or liver disease. You should inform your doctor if you have ever had a fainting after passing urine. PRAZOPRESS XL 2.5MG TABLET may cause complications during eye surgeries such as cataract, therefore inform your doctor if you are undergoing any eye operations. PRAZOPRESS XL 2.5MG TABLET is not recommended in children under (12 years of age) and also patients having allergy to prazosin or other quinazolines such as doxozosin and tetrazosin .PRAZOPRESS XL 2.5MG TABLET should be used with caution in  pregnant women ,breast feeding mothers and elderly people. Consult your doctor before taking it.  Most common side effects of PRAZOPRESS XL 2.5MG TABLET are nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, fainting and dizziness etc. Consult your doctor if any of the symptoms bothers you.

    How to use PRAZOPRESS XL 2.5MG TABLET

    Take PRAZOPRESS XL 2.5MG TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

    Side Effects Of PRAZOPRESS XL 2.5MG TABLET

    Common

    • Fainting and dizziness especially on standing up
    • Headache, drowsiness, or weakness
    • Palpitations (irregular beating of heart)
    • Nausea
    • Vomiting
    • Lack of energy
    • Depression or nervousness
    • Constipation and diarrhoea
    • Dry mouth
    • Nasal stuffiness
    • Blurred vision
    • Shortness of breath or rash (signs of allergic reaction)
    • Swelling of the feet, ankles or leg
    • Increased frequency of urination

    Uncommon

    • Stomach discomfort or pain
    • Chest pain accompanied by increased heartbeat
    • Tingling sensation or numbness
    • Ringing or buzzing in the ear
    • Redness in the eyes or eye pain
    • Sleeping difficulties
    • Sweating
    • Itching of skin
    • Painful joints
    • Difficulty or inability in erection of penis

    Rare

    • Infection and pain in pancreas
    • Abnormal slow beating of heart
    • Hallucinations (abnormal imagining about things which are not real)
    • Loss of hair
    • Decreased blood pressure
    • Flushing  
    • Abnormal breast enlargement especially in men
    • Persistent erection of the penis
    • Sleeping disorder causi ng increased tendency to fall asleep (narcolepsy)
    • Urinary incontinence (leaking of urine)
    • Fever and pain
    • Swelling of blood vessels

    Stop taking PRAZOPRESS XL 2.5MG TABLET and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

    • Signs of allergic reactions (such as sudden wheeziness, difficulty in breathing, swelling of eyelids, face, lips, rash or itching which affects the whole body)

    How To Manage Side Effects

    Constipation

    Eat plenty of foods which contain fibre such as fresh fruits, vegetables, and cereals and drink plenty of water. Exercise more regularly. If the symptom does not improve consult your physician.

    Diarrhea

    Drink plenty of fluids, such as water or fruit juice to keep yourself hydrated. Do not consume any medicine on your own without consulting your doctor.

    Dizziness Or Drowsiness

    Try to lie down or sit immediately if you feel dizzy. Drink enough water to get hydrated. Consult your doctor if symptom does not improve.

    Headache

    Use a cold pack or hot pads to reduce the pressure on your head. Reduce looking into bright light and try to get adequate sleep. Consult your doctor if symptom is not improving.

    Nausea And Vomiting

    Take this medicine with, or just after meals. Stick to simple and healthy meals. Avoid eating oily or spicy foods. Consult your doctor immediately if the symptoms are worsening.

    Stomach Pain

    Try to rest and relax. Eat and drink slowly or try to have frequent and small quantities of food Keep a heat pad on your stomach. If the symptom does not improve, contact your doctor.

    PRAZOPRESS XL 2.5MG TABLET should be used during pregnancy only if considered clearly necessary. Consult your doctor before taking it.

    Breastfeeding

    Use with Caution

    PRAZOPRESS XL 2.5MG TABLET is excreted in small amounts through breast milk, so it should be used with caution in breastfeeding mothers. Consult your doctor before taking it.

    Driving and Using Machines

    Use with Caution

    Do not drive or operate any machines if you feel dizziness, drowsiness, or weakness after taking PRAZOPRESS XL 2.5MG TABLET.

    Alcohol

    Consult your doctor

    Avoid consumption of alcohol while taking PRAZOPRESS XL 2.5MG TABLET because it might cause dizziness, light-headedness, or fainting.

    Kidney

    Use with Caution

    PRAZOPRESS XL 2.5MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Consult your doctor before taking.

    Liver

    Use with Caution

    PRAZOPRESS XL 2.5MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. Consult your doctor before taking.

    Allergy

    Contraindicated

    Do not take PRAZOPRESS XL 2.5MG TABLET if you are allergic to Prazosin or other quinazolines such as doxazosin and terazosin.

    Heart Disease

    Use with Caution

    PRAZOPRESS XL 2.5MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients having heart failure due to another heart conditions such as heart attack or valvular heart disease. This heart conditions can gradually make this medicine ineffective and can lead to oedema (fluid retention) in legs and ankles. Consult your doctor before taking it.

    Use In Pediatrics

    Contraindicated

    PRAZOPRESS XL 2.5MG TABLET is not recommended for use in children and adolescents (under 12 years of age). Consult your doctor before taking it.

    Use In Geriatrics

    Use with Caution

    PRAZOPRESS XL 2.5MG TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients usually initiating the management with the lowest possible dose. Consult your doctor before taking it.

    Others

    Before taking PRAZOPRESS XL 2.5MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you:

    • Have ever had a fainting after passing the urine
    • Are undergoing an eye operation due to cataract (cloudiness of lens)
    • Have prolonged erection of penis which lasts than 4 hours

    A. Drug-Drug Interactions:

    Before taking PRAZOPRESS XL 2.5MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:

    • Calcium antagonists and ACE inhibitors (medicines used to manage high blood pressure) Ex. amlodipine, diltiazem, captopril enalapril
    • Beta blockers (medicines used to manage angina (chest pain) Ex. atenolol, metoprolol
    • Medicines used to manage erectile dysfunction (impotence) (Ex. sildenafil, tadalafil)
    • Diuretics (medicines used to manage oedema) Ex. hydrochlorothiazide, furosemide

    Overdosage:

    If you or anyone else accidentally take too much of PRAZOPRESS XL 2.5MG TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Overdosage may lead to decrease in blood pressure.
