    Introduction About PRAMIPAR 1MG TABLET

    PRAMIPAR 1MG TABLET contains Pramipexole which belongs to the group of medicines called Dopamine agonists. It is used to manage signs and symptoms of idiopathic Parkinson’s disease.

    It is also prescribed to manage conditions such as Restless Legs Syndrome.

    A disorder of the central nervous system that affects movement, often including tremors. Nerve cell damage in the brain causes dopamine levels to drop, leading to the symptoms of Parkinson's.

    PRAMIPAR 1MG TABLET should not be given in patients with kidney diseases and psychosis. PRAMIPAR 1MG TABLET is not recommended for use in pregnancy and breastfeeding.

    This medicine is strictly for use in adults and should not be used in children and adolescents under 18 years of age.

    The common side effects of taking PRAMIPAR 1MG TABLET include sleepiness, dizziness, dyskinesia, nausea, hallucinations (seeing, hearing or feeling things that are not present), abnormal dreams, confusion, behavioural symptoms (Impulse control and compulsions), headache, double or blurred vision, low blood pressure, constipation, vomiting, swelling of body usually in the legs, decreased weight and appetite. Consult your doctor for advice if any of the above side effects worsen.

    How PRAMIPAR 1MG TABLET Works

    PRAMIPAR 1MG TABLET is a dopamine agonist which binds to a set of dopamine receptors in the brain. It relieves Parkinsonism by stimulating dopamine receptors present in the striatum (part of the brain that is responsible for cognition, planning, decision-making, motivation, reinforcement, and reward perception).

    How to use PRAMIPAR 1MG TABLET

    Take PRAMIPAR 1MG TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your physician will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

    Side Effects Of PRAMIPAR 1MG TABLET

    Common

    • sleepiness
    • dizziness
    • uncontrolled, involuntary movement
    • nausea
    • abnormal dreams
    • confusion
    • headache
    • double or blurred vision
    • low blood pressure
    • constipation
    • vomiting
    • swelling of body usually in the legs
    • decreased weight and appetite
    • fatigue
    • insomnia

    Uncommon

    • paranoia
    • delusion
    • compulsive shopping, gambling, hypersexuality, delusion, loss of libido, delirium, paranoia, binge eating
    • amnesia (loss of memory)
    • loss of consciousness
    • cardiac failure
    • dyspnoea
    • hiccups
    • rash, itching
    • difficulties in breathing
    • hyperkinesia (inability to remain still)
    • restlessness
    • loss of reality (delirium)

    Rare

    • mania (over-excitedness)

    Stop takingPRAMIPAR 1MG TABLET and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

    • serious allergic reaction such as sudden wheezing, rash, itching, hives, swelling of the lips, tongue, face or throat causing difficulty in swallowing or breathing
    • symptoms of Pneumonia (infection of the lungs) include fever, shivering, sweating, difficulty breathing, chest pain and feeling unwell
    • symptoms of heart failure, causing shortness of breath or a persistent cough, extreme tiredness and swelling of the ankles
    • decreased sodium levels in the blood, which may cause weakness, confusion muscle pains
    • falling asleep while you are doing activities such as talking, eating, driving, or feel sleepier than normal
    • hallucinations or other psychotic-like behaviour (seeing visions, hearing sounds or feeling sensations that are not real, confusion, excessive suspicion, aggressive behaviour, agitation, delusional beliefs and disorganized thinking)
    • withdrawal symptoms such as fever, confusion, severe muscle stiffness, apathy, anxiety, depression, fatigue, difficulty sleeping, sweating, and pain

    How To Manage Side Effects

    Nausea:

    Take PRAMIPAR 1MG TABLET during or after meals to minimise effects. Consult your doctor for advice.

    Constipation:

    Eat fibre rich food, drink plenty of fluids to avoid constipation. Consult your doctor for advice.

    Warning & Precautions

    Pregnancy

    Use of PRAMIPAR 1MG TABLET is not recommended in pregnant women. Contact your doctor before taking.

    Breastfeeding

    PRAMIPAR 1MG TABLET is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women as it may pass through the breast milk. Contact your doctor before taking.

    Driving and Using Machines

    Use of PRAMIPAR 1MG TABLET can cause sleepiness, drowsiness, hallucinations and sudden onset of sleep. Hence, it is not recommended to drive or use machines after taking this medicine.

    Alcohol

    Avoid alcohol consumption while taking PRAMIPAR 1MG TABLET as it may increase the risk of sleepiness.

    Kidney

    PRAMIPAR 1MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with kidneys disease. Contact your doctor before taking.

    Liver

    PRAMIPAR 1MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with liver diseases. Contact your doctor before taking.

    Allergy

    Do not take PRAMIPAR 1MG TABLET if you are allergic to Pramipexole or to other ingredients of the medicine.

    Lungs

    PRAMIPAR 1MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with existing pulmonary diseases. Contact your doctor before taking.

    Heart Disease

    PRAMIPAR 1MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with severe heart and blood vessel disease. Contact your doctor before taking.

    Others

    PRAMIPAR 1MG TABLET is not recommended for use if you have:

    • psychosis (schizophrenia)

    Use in pediatrics:

    Use of PRAMIPAR 1MG TABLET is not advisable in children and adolescents under 18 years of age. Contact your doctor before taking.

    Use in geriatrics:

    PRAMIPAR 1MG TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients over 65 years of age. Contact your doctor to get the correct dose.

    Interactions

    A. Drug-Drug Interactions:

    Before taking PRAMIPAR 1MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:

    • cimetidine, ranitidine, pantoprazole, antacids (medicines used to manage excess acid and to manage gastric ulcers)
    • amantadine, levodopa, benztropine (medicines used to manage parkinson’s disease)
    • mexiletine, procainamide, quinidine (medicines used to manage irregular heartbeats
    • zidovudine (medicine used to manage HIV infection)
    • cisplatin (medicine used to manage various types of cancers)
    • quinine (medicines used to manage malaria)
    • any medicines that calm you down (sedative effect)
    • phenothiazines, butyrophenones, thioxanthenes (medicines used to manage schizophrenia and psychoses)
    • metoclopramide (medicines used to manage nausea and vomiting)
    • diltiazem, triamterene, verapamil, hydrochlorothiazide (medicines used to manage high blood pressure and heart diseases)
    • cefadroxil, cefaclor, amoxicillin (medicines used for bacterial infections)
    • indomethacin (medicines used to manage pain)
    • chlorpropamide (medicines used to manage diabetes mellitus)

    Overdosage:

    If you miss a dose of PRAMIPAR 1MG TABLET, do not take double dose. If you have accidentally taken too much of this medicine, contact your doctor or nearest hospital immediately for advice. Symptoms of overdosage are vomiting, nausea, agitation, low blood pressure, hallucination, restlessness, confusion.
