    1. Ensure the regulating clamp is in the closed position.
    2. Remove the protective cap from the spike and insert the spike fully into the blood bag port.
    3. Squeeze the drip chamber until it is approximately half-filled with blood.
    4. Remove the protective cap from the Luer connector, open the clamp, and allow the blood to run through the tubing to expel all air, then close the clamp.
    5. Connect the set to the patient's intravenous access device and adjust the regulating clamp to achieve the prescribed flow rate.
