Description
The Polymed Polyflon I.V. Cannula in 24 Gauge is a peripheral catheter designed for establishing intravascular access. It is intended for single-use to administer intravenous fluids, deliver medications, and for blood sampling. The cannula is made from biocompatible materials like Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) or Fluorinated ethylene propylene (FEP), which are kink-resistant and designed for patient safety. Its 24G size is particularly suited for patients with small or fragile veins, such as in neonatal or geriatric care.
Kink-Resistant Catheter: The cannula features a special tapered catheter made from FEP or PTFE, which is radiopaque and helps ensure an uninterrupted flow of fluids. Integrated Injection Port: Equipped with a non-return silicone valve, the injection port allows for the administration of medication without needing another needle stick. Secure Fixation Wings: Flexible wings provide stability and allow for secure fixation of the cannula to the patient's skin. Transparent Flashback Chamber: The clear chamber allows for visual confirmation of successful venipuncture upon seeing blood flashback. Biocompatible Material: Constructed from biocompatible and non-toxic polymers to ensure patient safety during use.
Q: What is a 24G I.V. cannula primarily used for?
A: A 24G I.V. cannula is typically used for pediatric patients, neonates, and adults with fragile veins due to its smaller size. It is suitable for administering IV fluids and medications at lower flow rates.
Q: What material is the catheter made from?
A: The catheter is made from materials like FEP (Fluorinated ethylene propylene) or PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene), which are chosen for being biocompatible, flexible, and kink-resistant.
Q: Does this cannula have features for medication administration?
A: Yes, this model is equipped with an integrated injection port that has a non-return valve, allowing for the intermittent administration of medications without needing a new needle stick.
Q: Is the cannula visible in medical imaging?
A: Yes, the catheter is radiopaque, which means it can be seen on X-rays, helping healthcare professionals to verify its placement.
Q: Who should perform the insertion of this I.V. cannula?
A: The insertion of this medical device should only be performed by a qualified doctor or another licensed healthcare practitioner trained in intravenous access procedures.

Direction for Use/Dosage
This product is intended for use by a qualified healthcare professional only. General steps for insertion include: Sanitize the selected insertion site and allow it to dry completely. Remove the cannula from its sterile packaging, ensuring the needle bevel is facing up. Perform venipuncture, looking for blood flashback in the chamber to confirm entry into the vein. Advance the catheter into the vein while carefully withdrawing the needle. Secure the cannula using its fixation wings. Dispose of the needle in an appropriate sharps container. Connect the cannula hub to the I.V. tubing and begin administration as required.
