    Description

The Polymed Polyflon I.V. Cannula is a peripheral I.V. catheter intended for tasks such as intravenous therapy, fluid administration, regular blood sampling, and monitoring blood pressure in medical environments. It is designed as a single-use device to establish intravascular and tissue access. The construction aims to reduce the chances of unexpected blood splash and needlestick injuries.

Catheter Design: Features a special tapered and kink-resistant FEP radiopaque catheter for straightforward insertion and optimal flow rates. Injection Port: Equipped with an integrated injection port that has a non-return silicone valve, allowing for intermittent medication administration without needing extra needle sticks. Secure Fixation: Comes with flexible wings that provide stability and help in securing the cannula to the patient's skin. Visual Confirmation: A transparent flashback chamber allows for easy visual confirmation of successful venipuncture. Biocompatible Material: Manufactured from tested biocompatible materials, which may include polyurethane, offering a longer indwelling time.

    Q: Is this a single-use device?

A: Yes, the Polymed Polyflon I.V. Cannula is a disposable, single-use device intended to create intravascular access. It should not be re-sterilized or used on more than one patient.

Q: What is a 16G cannula typically used for?

A: A 16G cannula, recognizable by its grey color, is generally used for IV infusions, blood transfusions, and in surgical or emergency situations where rapid fluid or medication delivery is required.

Q: What is the catheter made of?

A: The catheter is made from a special tapered and kink-resistant FEP (Fluorinated Ethylene Propylene) material, which is radiopaque, meaning it is visible on X-rays.

Q: Does this cannula have an injection port?

A: Yes, the Polymed Polyflon I.V. Cannula is equipped with an injection port that has a non-return silicon valve for administering medication intermittently without needing another needle stick.

Q: Who should perform the cannulation procedure?

A: This I.V. cannula is a medical device that should only be used by qualified healthcare professionals who are trained in intravenous cannulation procedures. It is not intended for home use by untrained individuals.

    Direction for Use/Dosage

Select the appropriate size of the I.V. cannula and carefully clean the chosen vein puncture site. Inspect the package for integrity and expiry date before removing the cannula. Remove the needle cover, grip the hub, and insert the cannula into the vein at a low angle. Check for blood flashback to confirm proper venipuncture. Advance the catheter into the vein while simultaneously withdrawing the needle. Dispose of the needle immediately in a sharps container. Connect the cannula to the I.V. infusion set or a luer lock plug. Use the flexible wings to tape the cannula securely to the patient's skin. Cover the puncture site with a sterile dressing. For intermittent medication, use the injection port after removing its cap, and ensure the cap is closed when not in use.
