    Introduction About PHENSEDYL T COUGH SYRUP

    PHENSEDYL T COUGH SYRUP is a combination of Codeine and Triprolidine which belongs to the group of medicines called Antitussives and Antihistamines respectively. PHENSEDYL T COUGH SYRUP is used for the symptomatic management of dry cough. A dry or unproductive cough does not produce mucus can occur due to conditions like cold, flu.

    Before taking PHENSEDYL T COUGH SYRUP inform your doctor if you have or ever had a stomach ulcer, pre-existing ischaemic heart disease, history of arrhythmia, epilepsy, increased intraocular pressure/narrow angle glaucoma, prostatic hypertrophy, bladder neck obstruction, diabetes, gallbladder disease or gallstones, bronchial asthma or urethral stricture. PHENSEDYL T COUGH SYRUP should not be used in pregnant women, breastfeeding women, children and adolescents below 18 years of age.

    PHENSEDYL T COUGH SYRUP is recommended with caution in elderly and debilitated patients. The common side effects of PHENSEDYL T COUGH SYRUP are dizziness, mood changes, tiredness, nausea, vomiting, increased heartbeat, loss of appetite, headache, blurred vision, dry mouth and constipation. Consult your doctor if any of the above side effects worsen or persists for a longer duration.

    How PHENSEDYL T COUGH SYRUP Works

    PHENSEDYL T COUGH SYRUP is a combination of Codeine and Triprolidine. Codeine is a cough suppressant which suppresses cough by reducing the activity of special cough centre in the brain. Triprolidine is an antiallergic and it works by blocking the action of a chemical messenger (histamine) which may trigger cough due to allergy.

    How to use PHENSEDYL T COUGH SYRUP

    Take PHENSEDYL T COUGH SYRUP as advised by your physician. Shake well before use. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

    Side Effects Of PHENSEDYL T COUGH SYRUP

    How To Manage Side Effects

    Constipation

    Drink lots of fluids, such as water or fruit juice to keep yourself hydrated. Do not consume any medicine on your own without consulting your doctor.

    Dizziness Or Drowsiness

    Try to rest and relax. Get enough sleep. Avoid driving or operate any machines while you are feeling dizzy. Do not consume alcohol, as it can aggravate your dizziness. Contact your doctor if the symptom did not improve.

    Headache

    Rest and relax. Drink plenty of fluids such as water or electrolytes and apply a pain-relieving balm on the head if necessary. Do not consume alcohol. Contact your doctor if the symptom did not improve.

    Nausea And Vomiting

    Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating rich or spicy food. Consult your doctor if the symptom gets worse.

    Stomach Pain

    Try to rest and relax. Eat and drink slowly or try to have smaller and frequent meals. Keep a heat pad on your stomach. If the symptom does not improve, contact your doctor.

    PHENSEDYL T COUGH SYRUP is not recommended for patients with moderate to severe renal impairment. Consult your doctor before taking.

    Liver

    PHENSEDYL T COUGH SYRUP is not recommended for patients with severe hepatic impairment. Consult your doctor before taking.

    Allergy

    Do not take PHENSEDYL T COUGH SYRUP if you are allergic to Codeine, Triprolidine or any other ingredients of this medicine.

    Lungs

    Contraindicated

    PHENSEDYL T COUGH SYRUP is not recommended for patients with lower respiratory tract symptoms, including asthma, bronchitis, bronchiectasis or at risk of developing respiratory failure. Consult your doctor before taking.

    Heart Disease

    Contraindicated

    PHENSEDYL T COUGH SYRUP is not recommended for patients with a history of arrhythmia. Consult your doctor for advice.

    Use In Pediatrics

    Contraindicated

    PHENSEDYL T COUGH SYRUP is not recommended in children and adolescents below 18 years of age.  Consult your doctor for advice.

    • have prostatic hypertrophy
    • have bladder neck obstruction
    • have diabetes

    Interactions

    A. Drug-Drug interactions:

    Before taking PHENSEDYL T COUGH SYRUP inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:

    • anti-allergic medicines (Ex. diphenhydramine, cetirizine, brompheniramine, diphenhydramine, fexofenadine)
    • medicine to suppress cough (Ex. dextromethorphan)
    • antidepressants (Ex. duloxetine, sertraline, paroxetine, fluvoxamine, trazodone)
    • narcotic analgesics (Ex. hydrocodone, bupropion, morphine, oxycodone)
    • medicine to manage anxiety (Ex. alprazolam, diazepam, lorazepam, oxazepam, temazepam)
    • medicines used for seizures (Ex. phenytoin, carbamazepine)

    Overdosage:

    If you or anyone else accidentally takes too much of PHENSEDYL T COUGH SYRUP, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdose are extreme sleepiness, confusion, or shallow breathing.
