Introduction About PENTAWIN
PENTAWIN contains Pentazocine which belongs to the group of medicines called Opiate Analgesics. PENTAWIN is used to relieve moderate to severe pain. It may also be used for pre-operative or pre-anesthetic medication and as a supplement to surgical anesthesia. Avoid consuming alcohol, tobacco, and smoking while receiving PENTAWIN as it can increase the side effects.
Do not receive PENTAWIN if you have severe asthma, trouble breathing, or other breathing problems, heart problems, bowel blockage or narrowing of the stomach or intestines, severe pain in the abdomen due to acute appendicitis or pancreatitis, acute respiratory depression, head injury, a risk for seizures, undergone a surgery or are planned to undergo a surgery therefore, consult your doctor before receiving. PENTAWIN should be used with caution in patients who have severe kidney, liver and lung disease, heart disease, migraines, chronic or severe constipation, thyroid, adrenal or prostate gland disorders, low blood pressure, psychiatric problems such as depression, hallucinations or other mental problems, consult your doctor before receiving the medicine.
PENTAWIN is not recommended for use in pregnant and breastfeeding women until necessary, therefore, consult your doctor before receiving it. PENTAWIN is not recommended for administration in children and adolescents less than 12 years of age, consult your doctor for advice. PENTAWIN should be used with caution in elderly patients, therefore consult your doctor before receiving. The most common side effects after receiving PENTAWIN are nausea, vomiting, sedation, sweating, dizziness, euphoria and light-headedness. Consult your doctor immediately in case any of the side effects worsen or you experience an allergic reaction after receiving PENTAWIN.

It is used to:
- Relieve moderate to severe pain
- For preoperative or preanesthetic medication and as a supplement to surgical anesthesia
How PENTAWIN Works
PENTAWIN acts on the central nervous system (CNS) to relieve pain. It relieves pain by acting on specific nerve cells of the spinal cord and brain.
How to use PENTAWIN
PENTAWIN will be administered into a vein, muscle or into the upper skin layer by your doctor or nurse. Your doctor will decide the duration depending on your age, body weight and disease condition.
Side Effects Of PENTAWIN
Common
- Nausea
- vomiting
- Sedation
- Sweating
- Dizziness
- Euphoria, light-headedness
- Injection site reactions such as nodules, ulceration, skin depression
- Stinging at the injection site
Uncommon
- Constipation
- Dry mouth
- Breathing problems
- Disturbed dreams, insomnia
- Visual blurring and focusing difficulty
- Depression
- Circulatory depression
- High blood pressure
- Urinary retention
- Paraesthesia
Rare
- Tremors, irritability, excitement, tinnitus
- Muscle tremors
- Insomnia
- Disorientation
- Hallucinations
- Taste alteration
- Diarrhoea
- Cramps
- Blurred vision, nystagmus, double vision, miosis
- Depression of white blood cells
- Increased heart rate
- Weakness, chills
- Adrenal insufficiency
Stop receiving PENTAWIN and consult your doctor immediately if you experience:
- Respiratory depression symptoms that causes slow, shallow or weak breathing
- Allergic reaction that includes rash, hives, swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat, difficulty swallowing or breathing
- Bowel blockage (impaction) symptoms include abdominal pain, severe constipation, nausea
- Serotonin syndrome symptoms include agitation or restlessness, loss of muscle control or muscle twitching, tremor, diarrhoea
How To Manage Side Effects

Constipation
Eat plenty of fibre-rich foods such as fresh fruits, vegetables, and cereals. Drink water and exercise regularly. Contact your doctor if constipation persists.

Diarrhea
Drink plenty of water or fruit juices to keep yourself hydrated. Don’t take any medicine on your own for managing diarrhoea however, contact your doctor if your diarrhoea worsens.

Dizziness Or Drowsiness
Lie down until the dizziness is gone and get up slowly. Move slowly and carefully, do not hurry. Get adequate rest. Drink plenty of water and other fluids. Avoid coffee, cigarettes, alcohol, and medicine, however, consult your doctor if the symptom gets worse.

Headache
Drink lots of water and avoid skipping meals. Try to be relaxed and avoid stress. Apply pain relieving balm on your forehead if necessary and consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.

Nausea And Vomiting
Receive the medicine, with or just after a meal and stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oily or spicy food however, contact your doctor if nausea and vomiting worsen or persist.

Pregnancy

Breastfeeding
ContraindicatedPENTAWIN is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women. Consult your doctor before receiving it.

Driving and Using Machines
Use with CautionDo not drive or use any machines if you experience drowsiness, dizziness, lightheadedness while receiving PENTAWIN.

Alcohol
Consult your doctorDo not consume alcohol while receiving PENTAWIN as it can worsen the side effects.

Kidney
Use with CautionPENTAWIN should be used with caution in patient with severe kidney problems, therefore consult your doctor before receiving.

Liver
Use with CautionPENTAWIN should be used with caution in patient with severe liver problems, therefore consult your doctor before receiving.

Allergy
ContraindicatedDo not receive PENTAWIN if you are allergic to Pentazocine or any other ingredients of the medicine.

Lungs
ContraindicatedPENTAWIN is not recommended for patients suffering from severe asthma, acute respiratory depression, trouble breathing, or other breathing problems therefore consult your doctor before receiving it.

Heart Disease
ContraindicatedPENTAWIN is not recommended for patients suffering from heart problems therefore consult your doctor before receiving it.

Use In Pediatrics
ContraindicatedPENTAWIN is not recommended for use in children and adolescents less than 12 years of age, since clinical experience in children under twelve years of age is limited. Consult your doctor before receiving it.

Use In Geriatrics
Use with CautionPENTAWIN should be used with caution in elderly patients, therefore consult your doctor before receiving.
Others
PENTAWIN is not recommended for use if you have:
- Bowel blockage or narrowing of the gut or bowel
- Severe pain in abdomen due to acute appendicitis or pancreatitis
- Head injury, increased intracranial pressure
- Risk for seizures
- Undergone surgery or are planned to undergo a surgery
Before receiving PENTAWIN inform your doctor if you have:
- Migraine
- Chronic or severe constipation
- Thyroid, adrenal, or prostate gland disorders
- Low blood pressure
- Psychiatric problems such as depression, hallucinations, or other mental problems
Interactions
A. Drug-Drug interactions:
Before receiving PENTAWIN, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:
- Zolpidem, estazolam (medicines used for the management of sleep disorders)
- Anxiolytics and tranquillizers such as alprazolam, chlordiazepoxide (medicines used for the management of anxiety disorders)
- Muscle relaxants such as chlorzoxazone, metaxalone (medicines used for muscle relaxation and management of muscle pain)
- General anaesthetics such as isoflurane, propofol (medicines used during major surgeries for pain management)
- Haloperidol, trifluoperazine and phenothiazines such as chlorpromazine (medicines used for the management of schizophrenia)
- Antihistamines such as cetirizine, levocetirizine (medicines used for the management of allergic conditions)
- Antiemetics such as ondansetron, dolasetron (medicines used for the management of vomiting)
- Beta-blockers (medicines used for the management of high blood pressure)
- Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) such as selegiline, phenelzine (medicines used for the management of depression and mood disorders)
- Opiate agonists such as methadone, morphine (medicines used for the management of moderate to severe pain)
- Diuretics such as spironolactone, amiloride, frusemide (medicines used for the management of high blood pressure and oedema)
- Hyoscyamine, Glycopyrrolate (medicines used for the management of various problems such as urinary incontinence, overactive bladder (OAB), chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder (COPD), certain types of poisoning)
- Citalopram, fluoxetine (medicines used for the management of depression)
- Mixed agonist/antagonist and partial agonist opioid analgesics such as butorphanol, nalbuphine, buprenorphine (medicines used for the management of moderate to severe pain)
- Medicines used to manage migraines such as triptans
- St. John's Wort (herbal medicine)
Overdosage:
PENTAWIN will be administered to you only by a doctor or a nurse in a hospital, so it is unlikely to receive an overdose. However, consult your doctor or nurse immediately in case you experience any unusual symptoms. Symptoms of overdose are somnolence, respiratory depression, low or high blood pressure, increased heartbeat, hallucinations or seizures.
