Introduction About PENRIDOL TABLET
PENRIDOL TABLET contains Penfluridol which belongs to the group of medicines called Antipsychotic agents. PENRIDOL TABLET is used to manage certain behavioral disorders such as schizophrenia, which is a serious mental disorder that affects a person's ability to think, feel/behave clearly.
PENRIDOL TABLET is not recommended for use in patients allergic to Penfluridol. It is also not recommended for use in patients suffering from impairment of consciousness due to coma or use of certain substances.
Before taking PENRIDOL TABLET inform your doctor, if you suffer from convulsions, and/or have a history of blood clotting disorder, heart disease, liver disease, and/or kidney disease.
PENRIDOL TABLET is not recommended for use in pregnant and breast-feeding women. The medicine is advised to be used with caution in children and adolescents (aged below 18 years). It is also advised to be used with caution in elderly patients (suffering from dementia) after consulting the doctor.
The most common side effects of taking PENRIDOL TABLET are tardive dyskinesia (disorder that involves involuntary movements), extrapyramidal symptoms (medicine induced movement disorders) such as tremors, muscle contraction, and/or sedation. Consult your doctor if any of these symptoms worsen.

How PENRIDOL TABLET Works
PENRIDOL TABLET works by blocking dopamine D2 receptors (proteins responsible for synthesis and release of dopamine) in brain which results in reduced synthesis of dopamine and regulation of thoughts, feelings and behavior thus managing schizophrenia and its associated symptoms in affected individuals.
How to use PENRIDOL TABLET
Take PENRIDOL TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight, and disease condition.
Side Effects Of PENRIDOL TABLET
Common
- tardive dyskinesia (disorder that involves involuntary movements)
- extrapyramidal symptoms (medicine induced movement disorders) such as tremors, muscle contractions
- sedation
Uncommon
- weight gain
- photosensitization
- orthostatic hypotension (low blood pressure that happens when standing up from sitting/lying down position)
- breast pain
- galactorrhea (milky nipple discharge)
- amenorrhea (absence of menstruation)
Rare
- ventricular arrhythmias/fibrillation (abnormal heart rhythms)
- ventricular tachycardia (increased heartbeat)
- visual disturbances
- nausea, vomiting
- hepatic effects such as yellowing of skin/whites of eyes
Stop taking PENRIDOL TABLET and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
- signs of venous blood clots (particularly in the legs) such as swelling, pain, redness in the legs, chest pain, and/or breathing difficulties
- fever, profuse sweating, and/or pallor
How To Manage Side Effects
Nausea and vomiting:
Take PENRIDOL TABLET with/just after a meal. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oil rich/spicy foods, sugary snacks and drinks. Avoid drinking too much liquid along with your meals, and drink slowly in between meals. Consult your doctor if the condition worsens.
Warning & Precautions

Pregnancy
PENRIDOL TABLET is not recommended for use in pregnant women. Consult your doctor before taking the medicine and inform immediately if you become pregnant while in management with PENRIDOL TABLET.

Breastfeeding
PENRIDOL TABLET is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women. Consult your doctor before taking the medicine.

Driving and Using Machines
Do not drive or operate machines while taking PENRIDOL TABLET since it may increase the risk of reduced awareness, sleepiness, dizziness, and/or visual problem.

Alcohol
Avoid consumption of alcohol while taking PENRIDOL TABLET since it may cause impairment of consciousness.

Kidney
PENRIDOL TABLET should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Consult your doctor before taking PENRIDOL TABLET.

Liver
PENRIDOL TABLET should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. Consult your doctor before taking PENRIDOL TABLET.

Allergy
Do not take PENRIDOL TABLET if you are allergic to Penfluridol, and/or any other ingredients of this medicine.

Heart Disease
PENRIDOL TABLET should be used with caution in patients with heart disease. Consult your doctor before taking the medicine who may advise for an electrocardiogram to detect any cardiac problem.
Others
PENRIDOL TABLET is not recommended for use if you:
- suffer from impairment of consciousness due to coma or use of certain substances
Before taking PENRIDOL TABLET, inform your doctor if you:
- suffer from convulsions
- are at a risk of developing cerebrovascular accident (stroke)
- have/had a history of blood clotting disorder
Use in Pediatrics:
PENRIDOL TABLET should be used with caution in children and adolescents (aged below 18 years) only if it is clearly necessary. Consult your doctor before taking PENRIDOL TABLET.
Use in Geriatrics:
PENRIDOL TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients suffering from dementia. Consult your doctor before taking the medicine.
Interactions
A. Drug-Drug interactions:
Before taking PENRIDOL TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:
- medicines used to manage Parkinson’s (Ex. levodopa, amantadine)
- other antipsychotic medicines (Ex. chlorpromazine, trifluoperazine)
- medicines used as antiparasitic (Ex. piperazine, mebendazole)
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally take too much of PENRIDOL TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdose of PENRIDOL TABLET are reduced awareness, muscle rigidity, and/or blood pressure abnormalities.
