    Introduction About OSTOBONE 740MG TABLET

    OSTOBONE 740MG TABLET contains Calcium orotate which belongs to a group of medicines known as Calcium Supplements. It is used in management of low blood calcium levels in people who do not get enough calcium from their diets and management of low blood calcium levels like osteoporosis (bones become brittle and weak), osteomalacia/rickets (softening of bones), hypoparathyroidism (activity of parathyroid gland is reduced).

    It also manages latent tetany (involuntary contractions of muscles due to low calcium levels), in patients who have undergone hip joint surgery or suffering from lower back pain, recalcification of metastatic defects in the skeletal system and to minimizes the risk of colon cancer.

    OSTOBONE 740MG TABLET is also used in maintaining adequate calcium levels in pregnant, breast-feeding women, postpartum care, post-menopausal women, in pre- menstrual syndrome, senile osteoporosis, in drug (Phenytoin, Phenobarbital, or Prednisolone) induced osteoporosis.

    It can be used for management of inflammatory diseases such as psoriasis, lupus, various cardiovascular ailments, encephalitis, retinitis, phlebitis, colitis, multiple sclerosis, arthritis, spondylitis (inflammatory disease affecting spine and large joints). It helps in controlling weight, reducing the effects of mood swings, helping in cognitive enhancement, and also protects the heart by improving the efficiency of cardiac muscles.

    OSTOBONE 740MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with kidney disease, kidney stones, increased activity of the parathyroid gland, high amount of calcium in urine & blood, extreme loss of body water, incomplete or infrequent bowel movements, or sarcoidosis (lung disease). Consult your doctor before taking it.

    OSTOBONE 740MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients suffering from lung diseases such as sarcoidosis, heart, kidney diseases, gastrointestinal disorders such as achlorhydria (no stomach acid), malabsorption syndrome, or disease of pancreas.

    OSTOBONE 740MG TABLET can be used by pregnant & breastfeeding women. The most common side effects of taking OSTOBONE 740MG TABLET are bloating and swelling in the stomach. Contact your doctor if side effects worsen.

    Uses Of OSTOBONE 740MG TABLET

    • it is used to manage low blood calcium levels in patients who cannot fulfil calcium requirements from diet
    • manages low calcium levels in patients suffering from osteoporosis, osteomalacia/rickets, hypoparathyroidism, latent tetany, patients who have undergone hip joint plastic surgery or suffering from lower back pain

    How OSTOBONE 740MG TABLET Works

    OSTOBONE 740MG TABLET works by facilitating calcium transport through cell membranes and hence increasing the intake of calcium into the cells, particularly in bones. It also helps in maintenance of healthy cartilage and in synthesis of DNA, RNA in cells. Thus, it causes recalcification of bone, reverses bone loss and relieves pain.

    How to use OSTOBONE 740MG TABLET

    Take OSTOBONE 740MG TABLET as advised by your doctor. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dosage and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

    Side Effects Of OSTOBONE 740MG TABLET

    Kidney

    Allergy

    Do not take OSTOBONE 740MG TABLET if you are allergic to Calcium Orotate or any other ingredients of the medicine.

    Lungs

    OSTOBONE 740MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with lung disease such as sarcoidosis.

    OSTOBONE 740MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients suffering from lung diseases such as sarcoidosis (multiple inflammatory cell clumps are formed in various organs). Consult your doctor before taking it.

    Heart Disease

    Others

    OSTOBONE 740MG TABLET is not recommended for use if you have:

    • increased activity of the parathyroid gland
    • high amount of calcium in urine & blood
    • extreme loss of body water
    • incomplete or infrequent bowel movements

    Before taking OSTOBONE 740MG TABLET inform your doctor if you:

    • have gastrointestinal disorders such as achlorhydria (very less or no acid production in stomach)
    • have malabsorption syndrome (condition in which nutrition from food is not adequately absorbed in stomach)
    • have disease of pancreas

    Interactions

    A. Drug-Drug interactions:

    Before taking OSTOBONE 740MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:

    • bisphosphonates such as alendronate, tiludronate sodium, risedronate (medicines used for management of bone disorders)
    • tetracyclines (such as doxycycline, minocycline), quinolone antibiotics (Ex. ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin), medicines used for management of various infections
    • levothyroxine (medicine used for management of hypoactive thyroid gland)
    • estramustine (medicine used for management of prostate cancer)
    • thiazide diuretics such as chlorothiazide, chlorthalidone (medicine used for management of high blood pressure and kidney disorders)
    • phenytoin (medicine used for management of seizures)
    • aluminium and magnesium-containing antacids (medicines used to manage acidity and indigestion
    • mineral oil and stimulant laxatives (medicine used to manage constipation)
    • glucocorticoids Ex. prednisone (medicines used to manage inflammatory conditions)
    • oral contraceptives as well as oestrogen compounds (medicines used to manage pregnancy or manages menstrual abnormalities)
    • NSAIDs Ex. aspirin, ibuprofen (medicine used to manage pain)
    • tiludronate disodium (to manage Paget's disease)

    Overdosage:

    If you or anyone else accidentally takes too much of OSTOBONE 740MG TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdose are nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, headache, weakness, loss of appetite, weight loss, constipation.
