Introduction About ORNIGYL 500MG INFUSION

ORNIGYL 500MG INFUSION contains Ornidazole which belongs to the group of medicines called Antiprotozoals. It is used to manage susceptible protozoal infections and anaerobic bacterial infections.

Symptoms of infections generally include fever, extreme tiredness, swollen lymph nodes in the neck, armpits, groin or elsewhere, headache, nausea or vomiting. Your doctor might want to take certain blood tests prior to the management.

Avoid consumption of alcohol while receiving ORNIGYL 500MG INFUSION. Before receiving ORNIGYL 500MG INFUSION, inform your doctor if you have epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, kidney problems or liver disease. ORNIGYL 500MG INFUSION is not recommended for use among women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

ORNIGYL 500MG INFUSION should be used with caution in children and adolescents. The most common side effects of receiving ORNIGYL 500MG INFUSION are nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, epigastric discomfort and dry mouth. Contact your doctor if any of the above symptoms worsen with time.

How ORNIGYL 500MG INFUSION Works

ORNIGYL 500MG INFUSION contains ornidazole which is an antiprotozoal that kills parasites and bacteria that live in the absence of oxygen by generating harmful molecule which damages the DNA of the parasites and bacteria.

How to use ORNIGYL 500MG INFUSION

ORNIGYL 500MG INFUSION will be given to you only by a doctor or a nurse into a vein as an injection or intravenous infusion. Your doctor will decide the proper dose and duration for you depending on your age, body weight and disease condition.

How To Manage Side Effects

Nausea or vomiting:

Take regular sips of a cold drink. Have ginger or peppermint tea. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oily or spicy foods. If symptom persists, contact your doctor.

Diarrhea:

Drinking plenty of water and other electrolyte balanced fluids (like diluted fruit juices, broths, sports drinks and caffeine-free sodas) will keep you hydrate throughout day. If the symptom persists, contact your doctor.

Headache:

Avoid bright lights, drink lots of water and take rest. If symptom persists, contact your doctor.

Warning & Precautions

Pregnancy

ORNIGYL 500MG INFUSION is not recommended for use in pregnant women or women planning to have a baby unless the benefits of management outweigh the risk to the unborn baby. Consult your doctor before receiving it.

Breastfeeding

ORNIGYL 500MG INFUSION should be used with caution in breastfeeding women as it is not known if it passes in the breastmilk. Consult your doctor before receiving it.

Driving and Using Machines

Do not drive or operate any machines if you feel dizzy, drowsiness, light headedness after receiving ORNIGYL 500MG INFUSION.

Alcohol

Avoid consumption of alcohol while receiving ORNIGYL 500MG INFUSION and for at least 3 days after finishing the management as it may worsen the side effects.

Kidney

ORNIGYL 500MG INFUSION should be used with caution in patients on haemodialysis. Dose will be adjusted by your doctor. Consult your doctor receiving it.

Liver

ORNIGYL 500MG INFUSION should be used with caution in patients with liver problems. Dose will be adjusted by your doctor. Consult your doctor before receiving it.

Allergy

Do not receive ORNIGYL 500MG INFUSION if you are allergic to Ornidazole, metronidazole or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.

Interactions

A. Drug-Drug interactions:

Before receiving ORNIGYL 500MG INFUSION, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:

• medicines used to thin your blood (Ex. warfarin)
• medicine used as a muscle relaxant (Ex. vecuronium bromide)

Overdosage

ORNIGYL 500MG INFUSION will be given to you only by a doctor or nurse in a hospital and so it is unlikely to receive an overdose. However of you experience any unusual symptoms  consult your doctor immediately.
