Introduction About ONTIC SYRUP
ONTIC SYRUP contains Ondansetron which belongs to a group of medicines called Anti-emetics. ONTIC SYRUP is used to manage nausea and vomiting in children caused by cancer chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and surgery.
Before giving ONTIC SYRUP, to your child, inform your doctor if your child have or had severe constipation, heart problems, liver, kidney problems, imbalance with the levels of salts in your blood, (potassium, sodium, and magnesium), or have been scheduled for any surgery. During the therapy, your doctor would regularly monitor your child’s health to avoid the risk of side effects.
Your doctor will prescribe the right dose and duration depends on the child’s age, body weight and health condition, so stick to the dose, time, and duration prescribed by the doctor. Minor and temporary side effects may be experienced after the intake of this medicine. These includes headache, flushing and constipation.
Generally, these effects subside once the child’s body adapts to the medicine. However, in case of prolonged or bothersome events, consult your doctor immediately without any delay. Inform your doctor about your child’s complete medical history including any previous episodes of allergies.

How ONTIC SYRUP Works
ONTIC SYRUP is a serotonin 5-HT3 receptor antagonist (specific chemical receptor), and it works by blocking the action of serotonin, a natural substance that may cause nausea and vomiting.
How to use ONTIC SYRUP
Always give this ONTIC SYRUP to your child as instructed by your doctor. Shake well before use. It is for pediatric use. Your doctor will prescribe the right dose depends on your child’s age body weight and disease condition.
Side Effects Of ONTIC SYRUP
Common
- headache
- constipation
- weakness
- tiredness
- chills and drowsiness
Rare
Stop giving ONTIC SYRUP and contact your doctor immediately if your child experience any of the following side effects:
- severe allergic reaction which may include a red and lumpy skin rash (hives), difficulty with breathing, sudden wheezing, swelling of the face, mouth, lips or eyelids or a high temperature (fever)
How To Manage Side Effects
Headache:
Give plenty of water and apply a wet or cold cloth on child’s forehead. Apply pain balm to head to ease off the pain. If there is no improvement in the symptom, contact your doctor.
Constipation:
Give more fiber-rich foods like green leafy vegetables and fruits. Give lots of water. If there is no improvement in the symptom, contact your doctor.
Warning & Precautions
Driving and Using Machines
Do not allow your child drive or play outdoors, as ONTIC SYRUP may cause dizziness or blurry vision. Consult your doctor before giving ONTIC SYRUP.
Kidney
ONTIC SYRUP should be used with caution if the child has kidney disease. Consult your doctor before giving ONTIC SYRUP.
Liver
ONTIC SYRUP should be used with caution if the child has liver disease. Consult your doctor before giving ONTIC SYRUP.
Allergy
Do not use ONTIC SYRUP if your child is allergic (hypersensitive) to Ondansetron or any other ingredients of this medicine.
Heart Disease
ONTIC SYRUP should be used with caution if your child has any heart disease. If needed, dose will be adjusted accordingly. Consult your doctor for advice.
Others
Before giving ONTIC SYRUP, inform your doctor if your child had or have:
- problems with the levels of salts in the blood, such as potassium, sodium, and magnesium
- severe constipation or gut problems like blockage
- are intolerant to some sugars (Ex. fructose intolerance)

Your doctor will prescribe the right dose and frequency depends on your child’s age, body weight and disease condition. Consult your doctor before giving ONTIC SYRUP.
Interactions
A. Drug-Drug Interactions:
Before using ONTIC SYRUP, inform your doctor if your child is taking any of the following medicine:
- medicines used to manage fits/epilepsy (ex. phenytoin, carbamazepine)
- medicines used to manage lung infections (ex. rifampicin)
- tramadol (used to manage severe pain)
- medicines used to manage heart problems such as abnormal heart beats (anti-arrhythmic ex. amiodarone)
- cancer medicines (ex. doxorubicin, daunorubicin and monoclonal, trastuzumab)
- medicines used to manage infections (erythromycin, ketoconazole)
Overdosage:
If your child accidentally takes too much of ONTIC SYRUP, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital.
