    Introduction About OFLOX OZ INFUSION

    OFLOX OZ INFUSION is a combination of Ornidazole and Ofloxacin which belongs to the group of medicines called Antibiotics. It is used for the management of urinary tract diseases, respiratory diseases, skin diseases, soft tissue disease and sexually transmitted diseases.

    Your doctor might want you to take certain blood tests prior to the management with OFLOX OZ INFUSION to understand the existing condition. Avoid consumption of alcohol while receiving OFLOX OZ INFUSION as it may cause severe side effects.

    OFLOX OZ INFUSION is not recommended for use in patients with epilepsy, past history of tendinitis, peripheral neuropathy, history of myasthenia gravis, suspected gonococcal infection and rare hereditary disorders of galactose intolerance, the Lapp lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption.

    Before receiving OFLOX OZ INFUSION, inform your doctor if you have impaired kidney or liver function, heart diseases (such as heart attack or failure, slow heart rate) sclerosis, previous tendon disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis, pelvic inflammatory disease, diabetes, history of psychotic disorder or have schedule for any laboratory test.

    OFLOX OZ INFUSION is not recommended to use among women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. It is not recommended for use in children and growing adolescents and it should be used with caution in elderly patients particularly with impaired renal function.

    The most common side effects of receiving OFLOX OZ INFUSION are inflammation of a vein (phlebitis) and infusion-site reaction (such as pain, reddening). Inform your doctor if any of these side effect worsens.

    How OFLOX OZ INFUSION Works

    OFLOX OZ INFUSION is a combination of Ornidazole and Ofloxacin where Ornidazole kills parasites and bacteria that live in the absence of oxygen by generating harmful molecule which damages the DNA of the parasites and bacteria and ofloxacin is a quinolone antibiotic that kills bacteria by inhibiting the synthesis of bacterial DNA, hence helps to manage various infections.

    How to use OFLOX OZ INFUSION

    OFLOX OZ INFUSION will be given to you only by a doctor or a nurse into a vein as an intravenous infusion. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending on your age, body weight and disease condition.

    Side Effects Of OFLOX OZ INFUSION

    Common

    • inflammation of a vein (phlebitis)
    • infusion-site reaction (such as pain, reddening)

    Uncommon

    • agitation, sleep disorder, insomnia
    • dizziness, headache
    • eye irritation
    • vertigo (spinning sensation)
    • cough, common cold
    • abdominal pain, diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting
    • itching, rash

    Rare

    • loss of appetite
    • anxiety, nightmares
    • depression
    • sleepiness
    • tingling or prickling sensation in arms, legs or feet
    • altered taste or smell
    • visual disturbance
    • fast heart rate, low blood pressure
    • shortness of breath, bronchospasm
    • inflammation of digestive tract (enterocolitis)
    • hot flushes
    • excess sweating
    • pustular rash
    • tendonitis

    Inform your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects while receiving OFLOX OZ INFUSION:

    • serious adverse reactions (such as tendinitis and tendon rupture, peripheral neuropathy and CNS effects)
    • pain, burning, tingling or numbness sensation, weakness or other alterations in sensations, including light touch, pain, temperature, position sense and vibratory sensation and/or motor strength
    • central nervous system stimulation such as (tremors, restlessness, lightheadedness, confusion and hallucinations)
    • anaphylactic and anaphylactoid reactions
    • convulsive seizures

    How To Manage Side Effects

    Headache:

    Drink ample amount of water and avoid skipping meals. Get adequate rest. Try to be relaxed and stress free. Apply pain relieving balm on your forehead if necessary. Inform your doctor if the symptom does not improve.

    Stomach pain:

    Try to rest and relax. Eat and drink slowly or try to have smaller meals more frequently. If the symptom gets worse inform your doctor.

    Nausea or vomiting:

    Stick to simple meals while receiving this medicine. Avoid eating oily rich, fried or spicy foods. Do not lie down or sleep immediately after eating. Inform your doctor if the symptom does not improve.

    Diarrhea:

    Drink lots of fluids such as water to keep yourself hydrated. Avoid eating fried and greasy foods. Inform your doctor if the symptom does not improve.

    Warning & Precautions

    Pregnancy

    OFLOX OZ INFUSION is not recommended for use in pregnant women or women planning to have a baby. Consult your doctor before receiving OFLOX OZ INFUSION.

    Breastfeeding

    OFLOX OZ INFUSION is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women. Consult your doctor before receiving OFLOX OZ INFUSION.

    Driving and Using Machines

    Do not drive or operate any machines while receiving OFLOX OZ INFUSION as you may feel sleepy, impairment of skills, dizziness and visual disturbances.

    Alcohol

    Avoid consumption of alcohol while receiving OFLOX OZ INFUSION as it can cause severe side effects. Consult your doctor before receiving OFLOX OZ INFUSION.

    Kidney

    OFLOX OZ INFUSION should be used with caution in patients with impaired kidney function. Consult your doctor before receiving OFLOX OZ INFUSION.

    Liver

    OFLOX OZ INFUSION should be used with caution in patients with impaired liver function. Consult your doctor before receiving OFLOX OZ INFUSION.

    Allergy

    Do not receive OFLOX OZ INFUSION if you are allergic to Ornidazole, Ofloxacin or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.

    Lungs

    OFLOX OZ INFUSION should be used with caution in patients with surgical history of lung transplant. Consult your doctor before receiving OFLOX OZ INFUSION.

    Heart Disease

    OFLOX OZ INFUSION should be used with caution in patients with cardiac diseases such as heart attack or failure, slow heart rate and congenital long QT syndrome as it might increase the risk factor for prolongation of the QT interval. Consult your doctor before receiving OFLOX OZ INFUSION.

    Others

    OFLOX OZ INFUSION is not recommended for use if you have:

    • epilepsy or with a lowered seizure threshold
    • past history of tendinitis
    • latent or actual defects in glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase activity
    • peripheral neuropathy
    • history of myasthenia gravis
    • suspected gonococcal infection
    • rare hereditary disorders of galactose intolerance, the Lapp lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption

    Before receiving OFLOX OZ INFUSION, inform your doctor if you have:

    • sclerosis
    • known or suspected CNS disorders such as severe cerebral arteriosclerosis, epilepsy and other factors that predispose to seizures
    • previous tendon disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis
    • pelvic inflammatory disease
    • history of psychotic disorder or in patients with psychiatric disease
    • diabetes
    • any scheduled laboratory test to be given
    • uncorrected electrolyte imbalance such as low potassium or magnesium levels in the blood

    Use in pediatrics:

    OFLOX OZ INFUSION is not recommended for use in children and growing adolescents. Consult your child’s doctor for advice.

    Use in geriatrics:

    OFLOX OZ INFUSION should be used with caution in elderly patients particularly with impaired kidney function. Consult your doctor before receiving OFLOX OZ INFUSION.

    Interactions

    A. Drug-Drug interactions:

    Before receiving OFLOX OZ INFUSION, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:

    • Class IA and III anti-arrhythmics such procainamide, disopyramide, amiodarone, sotalol (used to manage arrhythmia)
    • tricyclic antidepressants such as amitriptyline, nortriptyline (used to manage depression)
    • macrolide antibiotics such as azithromycin, clarithromycin (used to manage bacterial infections)
    • antipsychotics such as risperidone, quetiapine (used to manage schizophrenia)
    • anticoagulants such as heparin or warfarin (used to manage or manage blood clots)
    • theophylline (used to manage asthma)
    • fenbufen or other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen (used to inflammation in osteoarthritis)
    • glibenclamide (used to manage diabetes)
    • probenecid (used to manage gout)
    • cimetidine (used to manage stomach ulcers)
    • furosemide (used to manage fluid retention)
    • methotrexate (used to manage certain forms of cancer)

    B. Drug - Food interactions:

    Avoid milk and dairy products while on management with OFLOX OZ INFUSION.

    Overdosage:

    OFLOX OZ INFUSION will be administered to you only by a doctor or a nurse in a hospital, so it is unlikely to cause an overdose. However, consult your doctor or nurse if you experience any unusual symptoms such as CNS symptoms (confusion, dizziness, impairment of consciousness and seizures), increased QT interval, gastrointestinal reactions such as nausea and mucosal erosions.
