Introduction About NUCOXIA D3 CAPSULE
NUCOXIA D3 CAPSULE is a combination of Etoricoxib and Vitamin D3 which belongs to the group of medicines called NSAIDs (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs) and Vitamin D analogues respectively. NUCOXIA D3 CAPSULE is used to manage rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis and to reduce pain. Rheumatoid arthritis is a medical condition characterized by inflammation in the joints, whereas osteoarthritis is characterized by degeneration of articular cartilage between joints.
NUCOXIA D3 CAPSULE is not recommended for use in patients with active stomach ulcer or bleeding in your stomach or intestines, hypercalcaemia or hypercalciuria, high levels of vitamin D in blood, inflammatory bowel disease, Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis or colitis, high blood pressure, stroke (including mini-stroke, transient ischemic attack or TIA).
Before taking NUCOXIA D3 CAPSULE inform your doctor if you have high blood pressure, are being managed for an infection, diabetes, high cholesterol or are a smoker etc. NUCOXIA D3 CAPSULE is not recommended for use by pregnant or breastfeeding women. NUCOXIA D3 CAPSULE is not recommended for children and adolescents under 16 years of age. NUCOXIA D3 CAPSULE should be used with caution with the elderly. Consult your doctor for advice.
The most common side effects of NUCOXIA D3 CAPSULE are pain, swelling of legs and feet due to fluid retention (oedema), dizziness, headache, palpitations (irregular heartbeat), increased blood pressure, wheezing or shortness of breath (bronchospasm), constipation, gastritis (inflammation of the lining of the stomach), heartburn, diarrhoea, indigestion, vomiting, nausea, bruising, stomach pain, weakness and fatigue etc. Consult your doctor if any of the symptoms worsen.

How NUCOXIA D3 CAPSULE Works
NUCOXIA D3 CAPSULE helps to reduce inflammation in rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, where etoricoxib works by inhibiting the naturally occurring chemical (Cox-2) in the body which manages the production of prostaglandins and results in decreasing inflammation, swelling and pain. Vitamin D3 works by binding and activating vitamin D receptors, which plays a crucial role in intestinal calcium absorption by stimulating protein expressions.
How to use NUCOXIA D3 CAPSULE
Always take NUCOXIA D3 CAPSULE as directed by your physician. Take this medicine with or without food, swallow the medicine as a whole and do not crush or chew the medicine. Do not stop taking NUCOXIA D3 CAPSULE without informing your doctor.
Side Effects Of NUCOXIA D3 CAPSULE
Common
- pain and inflammation after tooth extraction - dry socket
- swelling of legs and feet due to fluid retention (oedema)
- dizziness
- headache
- palpitations (irregular heartbeat)
- increased blood pressure
- wheezing or shortness of breath (bronchospasm)
- constipation, wind (excessive gas)
- gastritis (inflammation of the lining of the stomach),
- heartburn
- diarrhoea
- indigestion
- vomiting
- nausea
- inflammation of the oesophagus
- mouth ulcers
- changes in blood tests (related to the liver)
- bruising
- stomach pain
- weakness and fatigue
- flu-like illness
Uncommon
- gastroenteritis (inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract)
- upper respiratory infection
- urinary tract infection
- decreased number of white blood cells, decreased number of red blood cells, platelets decreased
- hypersensitivity (hives)
- increased or decreased appetite
- weight gain
- anxiety
- depression
- decreases in mental sharpness (hallucinations)
- taste alteration
- inability to sleep
- numbness or tingling
- sleepiness
- blurred vision
- eye irritation and redness
- ringing in the ears, vertigo
- abnormal heart rhythm (atrial fibrillation)
- fast heart rate
- heart failure
- angina pectoris – the feeling of tightness, pressure or heaviness in the chest
- heart attack flushing
- stroke
- mini-stroke (transient ischemic attack)
- severe increase in blood pressure
- Inflammation of the blood vessels
- cough, breathlessness
- nosebleed
- stomach or bowel bloating
- changes in your bowel habits
- dry mouth
- stomach ulcer
- inflammation of the stomach lining
- irritable bowel syndrome
- inflammation of the pancreas
- swelling of the face
- skin rash or itchy skin
- redness of the skin
- muscle cramp/spasm
- muscle pain/stiffness
- high levels of potassium in the blood
- changes in kidney tests (blood or urine tests)relating to your kidney
- flushing, stroke, mini-stroke (transient ischaemic attack)
- severe increase in blood pressure
- Inflammation of the blood vessels
- cough, breathlessness, nosebleed
- stomach or bowel bloating, changes in bowel habits
- dry mouth
- stomach ulcer
- inflammation of the stomach lining
- irritable bowel syndrome
- inflammation of the pancreas
- skin rash or itchy skin, swelling of the face, redness of the skin
- muscle cramp/spasm
- muscle pain/stiffness
- serious kidney problems
- chest pain
Rare
- angioedema (an allergic reaction with the following symptoms such as swelling of the face, lips, tongue and/or throat which may cause difficulty in breathing or swallowing)
- anaphylactic / anapylactoid reactions including shock
- confusion
- restlessness
- liver problems (hepatitis)
- low blood levels of sodium
- liver failure
- jaundice
- severe skin reactions
Stop taking NUCOXIA D3 CAPSULE and contact your doctor immediately if you have:
- following symptoms such as shortness of breath, chest pains or ankle swelling
- yellowing of the skin and eyes (jaundice) - signs of liver problems
- severe or continual stomach pain or your stools become black
- allergic reaction- which includes following symptoms such as ulcers or blistering or swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat which may cause difficulty in breathing
How To Manage Side Effects
Dizziness:
If you feel dizzy, keep your eyes closed and sit or lie down. Do not drive or operate machinery. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.
Headache:
Rest and relax. Drink plenty of fluids, such as water or electrolytes. Apply a pain-relieving balm to the head if required. Do not consume alcohol. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.
Nausea or vomiting:
Take this medicine with meals or just after meals. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oil-rich or spicy foods. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.
Stomach Pain:
Try to rest and relax. Eat and drink slowly or try to have smaller and more frequent meals. Keep a heating pad on your stomach. If the symptom does not improve, contact your doctor.
Warning & Precautions
Pregnancy
NUCOXIA D3 CAPSULE is not recommended for use in pregnant women. Consult your doctor before taking it.
Breastfeeding
NUCOXIA D3 CAPSULE is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women. Consult your doctor before taking it.
Driving and Using Machines
Do not drive or operate any machines if you feel dizziness and sleepiness after taking NUCOXIA D3 CAPSULE.
Kidney
NUCOXIA D3 CAPSULE is not recommended in patients with kidney stones or who tend to form kidney stones or kidney failure. Consult your doctor before taking it.
Liver
NUCOXIA D3 CAPSULE is not recommended in patients with serious liver disease. NUCOXIA D3 CAPSULE should be used with caution in patients with a history of liver disease. Consult your doctor before taking it.
Allergy
Do not take NUCOXIA D3 CAPSULE if you are allergic to etoricoxib, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), including acetylsalicylic acid (aspirin) and COX-2 inhibitors, azorubine, carmoisine or any other ingredients of this medicine. Consult your doctor before taking it.
Heart Disease
NUCOXIA D3 CAPSULE is not recommended in patients with heart problems including heart failure (moderate or severe types), angina (chest pain), heart attack, bypass surgery or peripheral arterial disease (poor circulation in legs or feet due to narrow or blocked arteries). NUCOXIA D3 CAPSULE should be used with caution in patients with a history of heart failure or any other form of heart disease or narrowing of the arteries.
Others
NUCOXIA D3 CAPSULE is not recommended for you, if you:
- have a current stomach ulcer or bleeding in your stomach or intestines
- have hypercalcaemia or hypercalciuria
- have high levels of vitamin D in the blood
- have inflammatory bowel diseases, such as Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis or colitis
- if you have high blood pressure
- any kind of stroke (including mini-stroke, transient ischemic attack or TIA)
Before taking NUCOXIA D3 CAPSULE, inform your doctor if you:
- have a history of stomach bleeding or ulcers
- suffer from sarcoidosis
- are taking medicines containing vitamin D or drinking milk enriched with vitamin D
- are dehydrated, for example by a prolonged bout of vomiting or diarrhoea
- have swelling due to fluid retention
- have a history of high blood pressure
- are being managed for an infection
- have diabetes, high cholesterol or are a smoker
Use in Pediatrics:
NUCOXIA D3 CAPSULE is not recommended in children and adolescents under 16 years of age. Consult your doctor before taking it.
Use in Geriatrics:
NUCOXIA D3 CAPSULE should be used with caution in the elderly. Consult your doctor before taking it.
Interactions
A. Drug-Drug interactions:
Before taking NUCOXIA D3 CAPSULE, inform your doctor if you are taking any of these medicines:
- warfarin (anticoagulants)
- rifampicin (an antibiotic)
- methotrexate (a medicine used for suppressing the immune system and often used in rheumatoid arthritis)
- ciclosporin or tacrolimus (medicines used for suppressing the immune system)
- lithium (used to manage depression)
- ACE inhibitors and angiotensin receptor blockers (such as enalapril and ramipril and losartan and valsartan used to manage blood pressure and heart failure)
- diuretics (water tablets)
- digoxin (a medicine for heart failure and irregular heart rhythm)
- minoxidil (a medicine used to manage high blood pressure)
- salbutamol tablets or oral solution (a medicine for asthma)
- birth control pills (the combination may increase your risk of side effects)
- hormone replacement therapy (the combination may increase your risk of side effects)
- acetylsalicylic acid (aspirin)
- carbamazepine
- phenobarbital, phenytoin, primidone, phenytoin (used to manage epilepsy)
- multi-vitamins and other vitamin D-containing medicines
- digoxin, digitoxin (used to manage heart disorders)
- calcium supplements
- rifampicin, isoniazid (used to manage tuberculosis)
- orlistat, cholestyramine, liquid paraffin (used to manage fat malabsorption)
- ketoconazole, itraconazole (used to manage fungal infections)
- actinomycin (used to manage some forms of cancer)
- glucocorticosteroids (steroid hormones)
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally receive too much of NUCOXIA D3 CAPSULE, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital.
