Introduction About NEOSPORIN H EAR DROPS
NEOSPORIN H EAR DROPS is a combination of Polymyxin B, Neomycin and Hydrocortisone which belongs to the group of medicines called Antibacterial and Anti-inflammatory. It is used for the management of otitis externa (infection of the external auditory canal). It is also used for the management of infections of mastoidectomy and fenestration cavities.
NEOSPORIN H EAR DROPS is not recommended for use in patients with perforation of the tympanic membrane, herpes simplex and herpes zoster infections, vaccinia or fungal infections. Contact your doctor before using NEOSPORIN H EAR DROPS should be used with caution in patients with allergic asthma or kidney disease.
NEOSPORIN H EAR DROPS is not recommended for use during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Contact your doctor before using NEOSPORIN H EAR DROPS is not recommended for neonates and infants younger than 2 years of age. NEOSPORIN H EAR DROPS should be used with caution in patients over the age of 65. If you experience any side effects, contact your doctor.

How NEOSPORIN H EAR DROPS Works
NEOSPORIN H EAR DROPS helps to manage ear infections, whereas Polymyxin B is Antibacterial and works by damaging the cell membrane of bacteria (which is essential for survival) leading to death. Neomycin is an Aminoglycoside antibiotic that works by inhibiting protein synthesis causing cell death and Hydrocortisone is a steroid which blocks the production of certain chemical messengers called prostaglandins (which are responsible for pain, inflammation and allergy). Together manages ear infection effectively.
How to use NEOSPORIN H EAR DROPS
Clean and dry the ear with sterile cotton and instil NEOSPORIN H EAR DROPS into the affected ear as advised by your physician. Shake well before use. It is for external use only. Do not use it in the eyes.
Side Effects Of NEOSPORIN H EAR DROPS
Rare
Stop using NEOSPORIN H EAR DROPS and contact your physician immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
- symptoms of pseudomembranous colitis such as prolonged diarrhoea, abdominal cramps
- sensitization or irritation

Pregnancy
NEOSPORIN H EAR DROPS is not recommended for use in pregnancy. Contact your doctor before using it.

Breastfeeding
NEOSPORIN H EAR DROPS is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women. Contact your doctor before using it.

Kidney
NEOSPORIN H EAR DROPS should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Contact your doctor before using it.

Allergy
Do not use NEOSPORIN H EAR DROPS if you are allergic to Polymyxin B, Neomycin, Hydrocortisone or antibiotics like framycetin, kanamycin, paromomycin, streptomycin, gentamicin or to other ingredients of this medicine.

Lungs
NEOSPORIN H EAR DROPS should be used with caution in patients with allergic asthma. Contact your doctor before using it.
Others
NEOSPORIN H EAR DROPS is not recommended for use if you have:
- perforation of the tympanic membrane
- herpes simplex and herpes zoster infections
- vaccinia
- fungal infections.
Before using NEOSPORIN H EAR DROPS, inform your doctor if you have:
- pituitary-adrenal axis suppression
- blurred vision
- colitis
- venous stasis eczema and ulceration,
- chronic otitis externa
Use in Paediatrics:
NEOSPORIN H EAR DROPS is not recommended in neonates and infants under 2 years of age. Contact your doctor before using it.
Use in Geriatrics:
NEOSPORIN H EAR DROPS should be used with caution in elderly patients aged 65 years or above. Contact your doctor before using it.

A. Drug-Drug interactions:
Before using NEOSPORIN H EAR DROPS, inform your doctor if you are using any of the following medicine:
- neuromuscular blocking agents Ex. succinylcholine (medicines used in anaesthesia)
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally take too much of NEOSPORIN H EAR DROPS, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital.
