Introduction About NEFOSAR INJECTION
NEFOSAR INJECTION contains Nefopam which belongs to the group of medicines called Painkillers. It is used for the symptomatic management of acute painful conditions, especially post-operative pains.
NEFOSAR INJECTION is not recommended for use in patients with cardiovascular diseases, acute angle glaucoma, fits, urinary retention. NEFOSAR INJECTION should be used with caution in patients with liver, kidney disease. Consult your doctor before receiving it.
NEFOSAR INJECTION is not recommended for use in pregnant and breastfeeding women. NEFOSAR INJECTION is not recommended for use in children below 12 years of age and in elderly patients. Consult your doctor before receiving it.
The most common side effects of receiving NEFOSAR INJECTION are vertigo, nausea, vomiting, sweats and pain at the injection site. Consult your doctor if any of the symptoms worsen.

How NEFOSAR INJECTION Works
NEFOSAR INJECTION interrupts the pain messages being sent to the brain and it also stops pain messages being felt in the brain. It does not stop the pain from happening, but you will not be able to feel the pain as much.
How to use NEFOSAR INJECTION
NEFOSAR INJECTION will be given to you only by a doctor or a nurse into the muscle as intramuscular injection (IM) or into a vein as intravenous injection (IV). Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.
Side Effects Of NEFOSAR INJECTION
Common
- vertigo
- nausea with or without vomiting
- excess sleepiness
- sweating
- pain at the injection site
- dryness of mouth
- acceleration of heartbeat, palpitations
- urinary retention
Rare
- excitability, irritability
- hallucinations
- abuse, drug addiction
- convulsions
- allergic reactions (urticaria, swelling of face, lips, throat (Quincke's oedema), anaphylactic shock)
How To Manage Side Effects
Dry mouth:
Dry mouth can be managed by chewing sugar-free gum or sucking on sugar-free hard candies to stimulate the flow of saliva. Sip water at regular intervals of time. Do not use mouthwashes that contain alcohol because they can be drying. Consult your doctor if the dry mouth gets worse.
Nausea and vomiting:
Receive NEFOSAR INJECTION, with or just after a meal. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oily or spicy food. Contact your doctor if your nausea and vomiting did not improve.
Warning & Precautions
Pregnancy
NEFOSAR INJECTION is not recommended for use in pregnant women. Consult your doctor before receiving it.
Breastfeeding
NEFOSAR INJECTION is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women. Consult your doctor before receiving it.
Driving and Using Machines
NEFOSAR INJECTION can cause vertigo (reeling sensation). Hence, do not drive or use machines after receiving this medicine.
Kidney
NEFOSAR INJECTION should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Consult your doctor before receiving it.
Liver
NEFOSAR INJECTION should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. Consult your doctor before receiving it.
Allergy
Do not receive NEFOSAR INJECTION if you are allergic to Nefopam or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
Heart Disease
NEFOSAR INJECTION is not recommended for use in patients with cardiovascular diseases. Consult your doctor before receiving it.
Others
NEFOSAR INJECTION is not recommended for use if you:
- have acute angle glaucoma (increase of pressure in the eye)
- have urinary retention
- have previous history of convulsions (fits)
Use in Pediatrics:
NEFOSAR INJECTION is not recommended for use in children below 12 years of age. Consult your doctor before receiving it.
Use in Geriatrics:
NEFOSAR INJECTION is not recommended for use in elderly patients due to its side effects. Consult your doctor before receiving it.
Interactions
A. Drug - Drug interactions:
Before receiving NEFOSAR INJECTION, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:
- morphine (used to manage severe pain)
- medicines used to manage depression (Ex. isocarboxazid, phenelzine, amitriptyline)
- anticholinergics Ex. hyoscine butylbromide, propantheline bromide (for relief of stomach cramps or spasms, overactive bladder)
- sympathomimetic agents Ex. pseudoephedrine (used to manage nasal congestion)
Overdosage:
NEFOSAR INJECTION will be administered to you only by a doctor or a nurse in a hospital and so it is unlikely to receive an overdose. However, consult your doctor or nurse if you experience any unusual symptoms like heart problems, convulsions, hallucinations.

A: Receive NEFOSAR INJECTION as advised by your physician. Generally, it can be renewed every 6 hours (IM route) or every 4 hours (IV route). Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.
Q: Can I become addicted to this medicine?
A: Some people have become addicted to NEFOSAR INJECTION after using it for a long time. If this happens to you, you might have withdrawal symptoms if you suddenly stop using this medicine. Symptoms include feeling anxious, restlessness, difficulty sleeping. Do not suddenly stop using this medicine. If you’ve using this medicine for a long time, talk to your doctor if you want to stop using it. Your doctor will reduce your dose gradually, to avoid side effects.
Q: How long will I take it for?
A: You may only need to use this medicine for a short time (Ex. For acute painful conditions, especially post-operative pains). It’s best to receive this medicine for the shortest time to control your symptoms. If you need to use this medicine for longer time, your doctor will monitor how well it is working for you and whether you still need it. Contact your doctor if you are unaware how long you need to use NEFOSAR INJECTION.
Q: How do you administer NEFOSAR INJECTION?
A: NEFOSAR INJECTION can be administered by deep intramuscular route (IM) or slow intravenous route (IV) (more than 15 minutes). Patient must lie down before and after administration of this medicine for 15-20 minutes to avoid some side effects such as nausea, dizziness, sweats.
