Introduction About NATRILAM 5MG TABLET
NATRILAM 5MG TABLET is a combination of Amlodipine and Indapamide, which belong to the group of medicines called Calcium-channel blockers and Thiazide diuretics. It is used in the management of high blood pressure (hypertension), which is a condition in which the force of the blood is consistently high against the walls of the arteries, which can increase the risk of heart disease, kidney disease and stroke.
Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding before taking this medicine. Inform your doctor if you have any problems related to the kidney, liver or heart. If you are elderly and younger than 18 years old, you should consult with a doctor before taking the medicine.
Before taking NATRILAM 5MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you have any conditions such as diabetes, low blood pressure, gout, low levels of potassium in the blood (hypokalaemia) and symptoms of fluid accumulation around the eye that present with visual disturbances or eye pain. The most common side effects of taking NATRILAM 5MG TABLET are headache, nausea, dizziness and tiredness.

How NATRILAM 5MG TABLET Works
NATRILAM 5MG TABLET helps to reduce high blood pressure, where amlodipine works by inhibiting the movement of calcium ions into both vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle, resulting in lower blood pressure by relaxing the blood vessels and improving the flow of blood to the heart muscles. Indapamide reduces blood pressure by promoting the excretion of extra fluid and certain salts (sodium) from the body by increasing the amount of urine produced by the kidneys.
How to use NATRILAM 5MG TABLET
Always take NATRILAM 5MG TABLET as instructed by your doctor. Take NATRILAM 5MG TABLET with or without food, swallow the medicine as a whole and do not crush or chew the medicine. Do not stop taking the medicine without informing your doctor.
Side Effects Of NATRILAM 5MG TABLET
Common
- headache
- dizziness
- nausea
- stomach pain
- visual disturbances
- muscle cramps
- diarrhea
- constipation
- indigestion
- increased heart rate
- flushing (skin redness)
- weakness, tiredness
- oedema (fluid retention)
- reduced levels of potassium in the blood
- red raised rashes on the skin
Uncommon
- altered taste sensation
- mood changes, depression
- enlargement of breasts in men (gynecomastia)
- tingling or numbness sensation in arms or leg
- ringing sensation in the ear
- low blood pressure
- cough, breathing difficulties
- dry mouth
- increase or decrease in weight
- impotence (unable to achieve erection)
- urine urgency
- vomiting
- reduced levels of sodium in the blood (hyponatremia)
- purple spots on the skin
Rare
- confusion
- low levels of chloride or magnesium in the blood
Stop taking this medicine and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
- severe skin reactions such as stevens-johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis (skin rash, itching, blistering reddening of skin all over the body, peeling and swelling of the skin, swelling of the mucous membrane)
- heart attack or irregular heartbeat
- signs of an inflamed pancreas (severe stomach and back pain, usually feeling unwell)
- sudden chest pain, wheezing and trouble breathing
- angioedema or urticaria (such as rash, swelling of the face, lips, mouth, throat or airways which can lead to difficulty in breathing or swallowing)
How To Manage Side Effects
Diarrhoea:
Drink plenty of fluids, such as water, fruit juices or electrolytes (ORS), to avoid dehydration in your body. Consult your doctor if the symptoms do not improve.
Nausea:
Try to take NATRILAM 5MG TABLET with or just after, a meal or snack, stick to simple meals and do not eat oil-rich or spicy food. Consult your doctor if the symptoms do not improve.
Dizziness:
Lie down until the dizziness passes away and then move slowly and carefully. Take plenty of rest and drink plenty of fluids. Consult your doctor if the symptoms do not improve.
Stomach pain:
Take some time to rest and relax. Eat and drink slowly or try to have smaller, more frequent meals. Keep a heating pad on your stomach. If the symptom does not improve, contact your doctor.
Headache:
Apply a hot or cold-water bag to your head. Try taking a rest in a quiet and dark room. Drink tea or coffee. Consult your doctor if the symptoms do not improve.
Warning & Precautions

Pregnancy
NATRILAM 5MG TABLET should not be used by pregnant women. Consult with your doctor for advice before taking the medicine.

Breastfeeding
NATRILAM 5MG TABLET is not recommended for use by breastfeeding women. Consult with your doctor for advice before taking the medicine.

Driving and Using Machines
NATRILAM 5MG TABLET may cause side effects such as dizziness or tiredness due to low blood pressure, so use caution while driving or operating heavy machinery.

Alcohol
Consumption of alcohol is not recommended during management with NATRILAM 5MG TABLET.

Kidney
NATRILAM 5MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease undergoing dialysis and it is not recommended for use in patients with severe kidney disease. Consult with your doctor for advice before taking NATRILAM 5MG TABLET.

Liver
NATRILAM 5MG TABLET should be used with caution in liver disease patients and it is not recommended for use in patients with severe liver disease. Consult with your doctor for advice before taking NATRILAM 5MG TABLET.

Allergy
Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to Amlodipine and Perindopril or other inactive preparations of this medicine.

Heart Disease
NATRILAM 5MG TABLET should not be used in patients with heart problems such as heart failure, recent heart attack, narrowing of the aortic heart valve (aortic stenosis) or cardiogenic shock (where the heart is unable to pump a sufficient amount of blood to the body).
Others
Do not take NATRILAM 5MG TABLET, if you have:
- hepatic encephalopathy
- severe low blood pressure
Before taking NATRILAM 5MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you have:
- severe increase in blood pressure
- diabetes
- gout (joint pain and swelling)
- allergic problems with natural sunlight or UV rays (photosensitivity reactions)
- symptoms of fluid accumulation in the vascular layer of the eye (choroidal effusion) or increase in eye pressure such as eye pain or low eye vision
Use in Pediatrics:
NATRILAM 5MG TABLET is not recommended for use in children under 18 years of age. Consult your doctor for advice.
Use in Geriatrics:
NATRILAM 5MG TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients and the dose may be adjusted according to age and weight. The management should be initiated based on kidney, liver or heart function.
Interactions
A. Drug-Drug interactions:
Inform your doctor, if you are taking any of the following medicines
- ketoconazole, itraconazole, amphotericin B (used to manage fungal infections)
- verapamil, diltiazem (used to manage low blood pressure)
- phenobarbital, phenytoin, carbamazepine (used to manage seizures)
- erythromycin, clarithromycin, rifampicin (used to manage bacterial infections)
- nefazodone (used to manage depression)
- dantrolene infusion (used to manage body temperature abnormalities)
- tacrolimus (used to alter the immune system response)
- simvastatin (used to manage high cholesterol)
- St. john’s wort (herbal preparation used to manage depression)
- ritonavir, nelfinavir, indinavir (used to manage HIV)
- sildenafil (used to manage impotence)
- metformin (used to manage diabetes)
- allopurinol (used to manage gout)
- quinidine, amiodarone, hydroquinidine (used to manage heart rhythm disorder)
- bepridil (used to manage chest pain)
- diphemanil, cisapride (used to manage stomach ulcers)
- pentamidine (used to manage malaria)
- halofantrine (manages certain types of malaria)
- ibuprofen (used to manage swelling and pain)
- calcium supplements
- potassium-sparing diuretics such as spironolactone and amiloride (used to manage high blood pressure or heart failure)
B. Drug-Food interactions:
Do not eat grapefruit or drink grapefruit juice while taking this medicine as it increases the level of this medicine in the blood, resulting in blood pressure-lowering effects. Consult your doctor before taking NATRILAM 5MG TABLET.
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally takes too much of NATRILAM 5MG TABLET, consult your doctor immediately. Overdosage may cause side effects such as dizziness, light-headedness, nausea, cramps, flushing (redness of the skin), fainting, low blood pressure, urinary problems, drowsiness and confusion.

No, you should follow the instructions of your doctor while taking NATRILAM 5MG TABLET. When abruptly stopped, it causes an increase in blood pressure. If you experience very low blood pressure while taking NATRILAM 5MG TABLET, consult your doctor immediately.
For how long should I take NATRILAM 5MG TABLET?
You should continue taking NATRILAM 5MG TABLET unless your doctor tells you to stop taking it. Blood pressure medicines will usually be taken for a lifetime to manage complications due to high blood pressure.
