    Introduction About MONTEK BL TABLET

MONTEK BL TABLET is a combination medication containing Bilastine and Montelukast. It is used to manage allergy symptoms such as runny nose, sneezing, and itchy eyes, as well as to reduce the symptoms of asthma.

The dosage of MONTEK BL TABLET should be prescribed by your doctor. It is usually taken once daily with or without food. Follow the instructions on the prescription label carefully. Before taking MONTEK BL TABLET inform your doctor if you have a history of liver or kidney disease, are pregnant or breastfeeding, are allergic to Bilastine, Montelukast, or any other ingredients in this medication.

MONTEK BL TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with hereditary problems such as galactose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption (inability of the body to absorb glucose and galactose sugars), and Lapp lactase deficiency (lactose intolerance). The medicine is also not indicated for use in patients suffering from acute asthmatic attacks.

The most common side effects associated with the use of MONTEK BL TABLET are headache, abdominal pain, dry mouth and drowsiness. Consult your doctor if any of these symptoms worsen.

    Uses Of MONTEK BL TABLET

    • Relieves symptoms of allergic rhinitis, including sneezing and nasal congestion
    • Manages seasonal allergies effectively
    • Manages asthma attacks by reducing airway inflammation

Benefits of MONTEK BL TABLET in Allergic rhinitis:

The combination of Bilastine and Montelukast works synergistically to address both the cause and symptoms of allergic rhinitis. Bilastine blocks histamines, preventing the allergic reaction that leads to sneezing, itching, and a runny nose. Montelukast reduces airway inflammation by inhibiting leukotrienes, substances that trigger nasal swelling and mucus production.

Benefits of MONTEK BL TABLET in Seasonal allergies:

MONTEK BL TABLET works by reducing inflammation and minimizing the body’s reaction to allergens. It helps to manage the recurrence of allergy symptoms, providing lasting protection throughout the allergy season. It helps reduce the likelihood of such issues by controlling nasal congestion and airway inflammation.

Benefits of MONTEK BL TABLET in reducing Asthma attacks:

MONTEK BL TABLET helps reduce asthma exacerbations caused by allergens such as pollen, dust mites, and mold. By controlling airway inflammation and reducing mucus production, also improves airflow, making breathing easier for patients with asthma or reactive airway diseases. Regular use of MONTEK BL TABLET helps stabilize airways, reducing the likelihood of nighttime asthma attacks and ensuring uninterrupted sleep.

    How MONTEK BL TABLET Works

MONTEK BL TABLET provides relief from allergic rhinitis where Bilastine works by blocking histamine (chemical messenger responsible for allergy), thus managing the occurrence of allergic symptoms, and Montelukast works by inhibiting the action of leukotrienes (chemicals responsible for inflammatory reactions), thus managing its occurrence and providing relief from associated symptoms of allergic rhinitis in affected individuals.

    Safety Advice

    Quick Tips:

    • Take once daily, preferably in the evening, or as directed by your doctor
    • Swallow the tablet with water, with or without food
    • Grapefruit Juice can interfere with Montelukast metabolism
    • Common side effects are drowsiness, dry mouth, and mild headache
    • Take consistently at the same time each day for optimal effect
    • Pair with an allergy-friendly lifestyle: reduce exposure to allergens like dust, pollen, and pet dander

    Interactions

    A. Drug-Drug Interactions:

Before taking MONTEK BL TABLET inform to your doctor, if you are taking any of these medicines:

    Antifungals (e.g., Ketoconazole)

    • Interaction: Antifungals are potent inhibitors of the CYP3A4 enzyme, which metabolizes Montelukast. Bilastine is absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract, and antifungals that alter gut motility or pH (e.g., ketoconazole) may reduce its effectiveness.
    • Effect: Increased Montelukast levels in the blood can heighten the risk of side effects, such as headaches, nausea, or mood changes. Bilastine depends on P-glycoprotein (P-gp) transport for absorption. Some antifungals inhibit P-gp, potentially increasing Bilastine levels and enhancing side effects like drowsiness or dizziness.

    Antibiotics (eg., Erythromycin)

    • Interaction:  Antibiotics like erythromycin or clarithromycin (macrolides) can inhibit CYP3A4, leading to higher Montelukast blood levels and increasing the risk of side effects such as headaches, gastrointestinal discomfort, or mood changes.
    • Effect: Enhanced side effects like drowsiness, dizziness, or fatigue.

    Immunosuppressants (eg., Cyclosporine)

    • Interaction: Montelukast is metabolized by the liver enzyme CYP3A4, and immunosuppressants like cyclosporine can inhibit this enzyme. Bilastine relies on the P-glycoprotein transporter for its absorption and distribution.
    • Effect: Elevated Montelukast levels in the bloodstream, leading to side effects such as headaches, mood changes, or gastrointestinal discomfort. Increased Bilastine levels can amplify side effects such as drowsiness, dizziness, and fatigue.

    B. Drug-Food Interactions:

    • Avoid having grapefruit juice while taking MONTEK BL TABLET since it reduces the effect of the medicine.
    • There are no direct interactions with caffeine, but in sensitive individuals, caffeine combined with Bilastine may increase anxiety or restlessness.
